Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

A so called key position forward, North don't want him anymore. What is really going on ?

North are in a heavy rebuild mode. He won’t be around if or when they ever compete again. They are clearing the decks of anyone who isn’t contracted who is of some value. Plus clearly Brown isn’t happy with the club, so they have no real leverage here.

The impression I get from this is that in order for us to get a deal with Brown across the line, we need to offload some salary cap space ie move on one or two highly paid players like Tom McDonald to achieve this. Otherwise, others might come in over the top of us to claim him.

Tom McDonald is the obvious one, is there someone else we would look to move on to make cap space?

I’m personally a fan of us trying to get Brown, as much as he annoyed the hell out of me when he played the Dees he’s a proven goal kicker who had a lot going on this year to suggest this was an aberration. He would take the number one key forward role and Weed slots into the second role which takes pressure off him, if they work in tandem then they can both be valued forwards on the day.

Fritta can move into a more HFF role with moves deep every now and then, and I can see Weed being more of a CHF role. The question of Jackson fitting in is fair but I could see him getting more development on the ball next season as well.

Can someone summarise please?

There is nothing new in there - just talks about the fact that the Dogs offered three years to our two years for Hannan, and that we are right in the hunt for Brown unless he wants a larger contract money wise as we can't offer that right now.  Says that by moving on someone like Tom McDonald it might allow us to offer more if another club trumped us in the $$$ department.

The no pressure argument is true based on previous form.

Is the solution to assume that can't change, or is it to implore Weideman and Fritsch to add defensive pressure/chasing/tackling to their games?

Totally agree.

Tacking is mostly about effort. No reason why the coaches can’t put a rocket up Fritsch’s [censored] and tell him to apply more pressure. If we add Brown we can’t afford his lax efforts in particular.

Just an afterthought... Robbie Flower averaged 18 possessions per game and just over 1 tackle per game... Tackling is overrated!

Why can't D/L ers Get it through their thi.k skulls that Fritsch position is NOT in danger! We do  not have to not recruit a TALL forward to suddenly have to eliminate Fritta  our best forward  by far in 2019 and 2020 ( Ahead of even Trac) as he is an A grader IF he develops to his full potential as he has indicated he wants to on our website when resigned. Recognising flaws etc and improvements needed is the start that Trac and May made and Bayley is now on that train snd look out. 40 goals 25 behind is a realistic target fir 2021.

Please tell me Who else other than Weid Ben Brown Tmac in 2018 form and fitness and Trac playing 75% forward are capable of that!

Brown Weid  with Jacko given free reign plus Fritta  and 3 small / mediums are fine if in good form and supply as has been with greater skill Are fine fir 2021.

Allowing Max Trac Clarry Angus snd Jack plus Harmes and Sparrow a resting role this seems fine In most conditions and flexible in style and  for wet and windy conditions ( Cairns or Hobart ) also.

Fritsch will never be an A grader

Ben Brown and Luke Jackson deep in the forward line Browny leading and Jako in the square and visa versa.

Two big units  Height  200 CM AND 198 CM     They are a good fit.

Can someone please explain to me how the heck we are struggling to fit Ben Brown within our salary cap? We must have a side full of superstars..... fmd

Simples. No one on here has any idea about our salary cap. In June we were reported to have the second-most space, now apparently we're facing a squeeze. I guess it was all those big signings in the past three months.

It was mentioned we'd try to get rid of T Mac to ensure we could meet rivals contract offers for Brown. We must have a decent portion allocated to Brown regardless of the T Mac situation, however would prefer Tom to go to allow us to match something we haven't budgeted for is the way I read into it. Long story short, it would appear we do have a fair chunk of cash in the cap regardless.

Offical. Ben brown has someone running his life and has changed priorities.. More interested in being a PC warrior than just doing his job as a player. Not just letting the player into the Club.

Umm, we have some very good players. 3 star mids, the best ruckman in the game, one of the best FBs, the best CHBs, the best wingers...

As much as the hand wringers would like to avoid this truth - we underperformed in two games this season and it cost us a chance to play a couple of finals.

We should be amongst the better teams in 2021.

Plus we overpaid T Mac and Tomlinson and there is the crunch.

Dr G He has the ability to be if he fulfills his potential. And Goody does not expect him to monster beasts in marking duels.

He beat Nick Hayne GWS snd Ridley Ess in last 2 matches and still scored and missed goals Whole not allowing them to mark and intercept.

Taks e very good Footballer to beat those two excellent HB flankers!

Bayley will be a star on our firward line kicking over 40 goals per season starting next season of 22 matches.

Fritsch is a handy player with a few tools. He is nowhere near being ‘an A grader’. Makeshift FFs have to move to another position in good sides and he needs to adapt to a flank further up the ground and I am not confident he can do it and provide what he needs to provide defensively.

We made a huge mistake in backing in Weid and Tmac when Hogan left. didn't understand the referred pressure that would be on them to back up what really was some good form.

I think we see this as a chance to undo that mistake.

I also think we're at risk of putting to much pressure on Jackson, yes he's very talented, but to put all your bets on him being the second forward target at AFL level for a full season in a team that should be aiming to be top 6 is a huge ask for a very raw second year player. Brown totally removes that pressure off him.

I don't expect Jackson to play every game in the 1's next year, he's going to take time to develop.

Brown and Weideman i'm confident can work together.

On the contrary I expect ( except for load management) Jacko to play most if not all games in 2021 in the AFL team.

He learns  so quickly competes so enthusiastically and is so mobile and skilled he makes a complete X factor for the opposition to worry about and will give our forward line a Huge boost.

Bring him on in the ones and he will repay our faith mo doubt. Just a waste learning in the 2's.

Jury Maybe  still out for very small sample size but I think Bayley when developed and coached properly will be a star

And he has done those 2 defensive jobs well so far Msybe if he had to handle a pacy opponent that's would test him out,

Lets see he has plenty of tricks and will learn more as he develops,

SEN (i think) reported the club offered $500k which is unders imv. Brown hasn't committed and will talk to Essendon and Freo. You'd think the bombers will throw money at him because they're desperate so we will have to up our offer.

TMac has to go to free up cap. If we have to pay half his salary next year so be it.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
