It looks as though we will have 3 forced changes - Viney, Tyson and Bugg.  White and Wagner didn't set the world alight, and neither did guys like ANB or Harmes, but I think they'll get another crack thanks to the injuries.

Who comes back in?  Big week on the track, but you would hope Hogan, Garlett and Watts can get up.  The problem there is that we are potentially bringing back 2 talls and a small for 3 smaller players.  Does that leave us going in too tall?  Do we also drop a Pedersen (just an example!!) for someone like Trengove, or even a Maynard?

Huge week ahead.

deebug, white is on our rookie list,he played in the seniors v swans. I am sure the AFL changed the ruling re-rookies. On another topic re-White he should be given another go in the seniors perhaps v Carlton.

Ok thanks, i hope Maynard gets a game soon.

I would love to experiment with someone like Maynard especially because of all the injuries and what not. He seems to be playing really well in the VFL, even though in fairness I haven't really seen much of him. Who knows, we could unearth another gem hopefully.

The thing that sticks out for me is that he plays the game as, basically, a pure midfielder.  Replacing Viney with, for example, Dean Kent is not like for like in terms of position and role.  Maynard strikes me as someone who can play an in and under role with a little more ability and consistency, even though I have no idea how he will fare at AFL level.

even frost and Hogan would be capable of little midfield bursts we might just need to really proactively rotate positions on the ground and get lots of players through there. We still have some fire power in the middle with gawn, Lewis, Oliver, vince

Why oh why did it have to our best players that have got injured. It feels like the universe is saying oh melbourne have started to win games and look good, we cant have this.

Just the death throes of the Norm Smith Curse. Don't worry, it means we're getting close.

INJURIES
Carlton: Marchbank (right shoulder), Plowman (dislocated finger), Weitering (ankle)

Hopefully all three miss. We deserve some luck.

Barring other injuries I expect Bugg, Viney Tyson and White to be out. We all wondered why White jumped ahead of the other form players and now we know why, he wasn't up to the task at the moment.

If available Hogan, Garlett and Watts would come in automatically and JKH, Ben Ken and Kent may be considered.

In line with other weeks, I expect changes to be kept to a minimum

Plowman should play. Can't recall a player missing with a dislocated figure.

Weitering ran out the game... he will play.

Viney could still play next week, a plantar fascia release can be done under general and you can walk out after. Robert Harvey did just that back in the day.

Jumped off his dining room chair and tore it completely played the next week should be ok. Opening fast Bowler for the local Cricket Club had same issue partially torn jumped off his chair tore it completely sore for 3-4 days played on the Saturday and knowing Vines he's a tough SOB so wouldn't be suprised to see him against the blues.

I know I'll probably regret saying this but thank god we've got Carlton next week.

I agree on your both points

Was just reading about plantar fascia release surgery, and it says the recovery is 6-10 weeks.

Couple of mates ran into Wagner out last night.. Said he's going to be dropped so there's one out. Goodwin obviously thinks he was that bad if he knows he's out already, assume White will join him

Another fascinating selection looms this week. Cripps , Murphy and Gibbs the only dangers for next weeks game in my opinion. Vince surely has to run with one of them now you would think.

Taking the kids to the school holiday clinic on Tuesday at MSAC, not that we could gauge anything from there but at least I can see who's limping or not.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
