He has a turn of speed that really worries defenders, love it.

And he can run them off their feet with his aerobic capacity.

Every goal is checked

It would have been umpire's call

The only thing that stands between him and the Mazda is Sidebottom's freakish goal

It was a great goal but players are kicking bananas or floaters from the boundary most weeks though that was the pick of them. Jayden Hunt with a 5 bounce run that evades two or three players and bombs from 60 will be a GOTY some time this year. Those kinda goals deserve it way more than freakish boundary goals.

Agreed.  Nev was great, and Eddie hardly got a sniff.  But, have to hand it to Eddie.  He's just gotta get hold of the ball and you can bet it will end in a goal.  Both of his goals last night were freakish.  So, to limit him to just two was a great effort by Nev!!

And one of those two goals was on Hibberd when he went to ground. One of the rare times Nev wasn't with him. I thought at the time, Nev wouldn't have lost his feet like that.

Dunno about leave him there but he may well be becoming one of those swingmen we`ve lacked for more years than I can remember.

I was thinking more of the 2 macs in the backline. The mistakes are shocking at times. I know it sounds silly but one at either end of the ground is safer I think.

Great result for u small.

U couldn't have planned it better if u tried.

Would have been great walking out after the game around all those two headed cow supporters!

Sure was Ox.

i took the view early that we were probably going to lose, so I'd celebrate our achievements loudly. Kept it up all night, my personal favourite was when I yelled out "PERCENTAGE BOOSTER" whilst laughing when Kenty kicked the last goal.

It was like 45,000 people leaving a funeral. I loved every bit of it!

Just watched replay. Until I did so, I hadn't realised how important was the Bugg goal in the second quarter. Until then we were getting smashed. A 10'goal or more loss was on the cards. Bugg's kick was not easy but he slotted it. At the next bounce our mids went in with a ferocity lacking the previous 15 minutes and almost immediately Jones goaled, and the game was turned on its head

Scoreboard pressure is what has killed us in a number of games this year. I'm glad it didn't last night.

Good to hear the 'whoo hoo' guy was back in action yesterday! Slowly becoming a cult figure at AO!

Makes the goals even better I reckon. Haha.

On the slow mo it looks like it took a funny deflection when the ball was near the post, I wondered the same.

His celebration makes me think it went through.

I wondered that too, and i said it in the match thread. Ive had another look and it does look like the revolutions of the ball sped up as it went past the post.......cant really see much reaction from the Adelaide supporters apart from a few filthy looks...(gold)....and the commentary said nothing....must be a trick with the lights....

Hannan is difficult to place. He looks so lost at times, but when you watch the replays, he is very physical in the air and at ground level.

TMac played his hunior footy as a CHF - is my memory correct here? Looked a natural forward and should stay there.

Who could believe that of all people, OMac would play a blinder on a gorilla? A great game from him tonight, when I thought he would get monstered.

Petracca is so strong through the hips and legs, he is almost impossible to bring down. And then his skill and decision making!!!

Some selection and position headaches coming up for coaches and selectors.

(Beeep), I  am a happy old bugger this morning. The missus isn't safe!

Re TMac. Yep he was a forward, and I think his position in defence grew out of Roos banishing Frawley to full forward.

Agreed. One of the great wins. And 5 minutes into the last you could see there was no way we were going to lose.

Some random thoughts on the game:

  • A serious comment: Oliver is already almost the best mid we have had for 30 years. His hands are incredible, his vision is next to none, his courage is unbelievable and his tackling is first class. But what really stands out is how quick his mind is and how this parlays into great decision making skills. That goal was an example. You could tell that even in the spit second he had he knew what he wanted to do before he got it in his hands. There are any number of less speculator examples, many of which involve him setting up scoring opportunities for team mates with great handballs
  • Another serious comment: as good as Oliver is Trac might be better. Big call i know and in many ways they are different players with Oliver being more a pure mid. But good lord Trac has so much talent, is incredibly strong and is simply brilliant at setting up team mates for scoring opportunistic (he clearly values assists over shots on goal himself - and i have no doubt that is related to his basketball background as in bball assists is THE critical stat). Now i'm not saying he is or will be as good, but the player he most reminds me of is Leigh Matthews. He has similar explosiveness, strong thighs, strength,  low center of gravity, great hands, hits contests at pace and with ferocity and most all vision. And like Matthew (and Oliver) he has a very quick mind

Love Trac and think he will be a star, but Oliver is something else. A genius at 19 years of age. I love that we have both of them. I wish Brayshaw could get through games without concussing himself, because he, along with Salem, Viney and Tyson form a massively talented group of young mids.

Another less serious comment: Oliver being called a genius is pretty funny. Has anyone heard him talk? A lovely country lad.

But seriously what a start to a career. Clay, Viney and Trac willed themselves to win that game last night.

I've now been able to watch the replay.

We made Adelaide look completely ordinary. That sentence is remarkable in itself.

Our pressure was exactly where it ought to be, and was there for the entire game. We knew what we needed to do, we stuck to it, and it worked.

We also, finally, made the most of our dominance and converted it into scoreboard pressure, a huge problem so far this year.

Our backline played really well, helpfully supporting the argument against the proposition that our backline "leaks like a sieve". And it didn't stand up against any old side, it stood up against the competition's strongest forward line, at their home ground.

With that pressure, that direct ball movement, and that clean use of it going inside as we had this week, we are capable of beating anyone. The season is in our hands.

Richmond cheer squad used to have a "Danny Frawley, Our Genius" sign. I suppose genius is hard to spot.

Just on this, Petracca is 2nd in the league for goal assists. Oliver is 10th.

After watching the game several times now and reading all the posters there isn't much that I can add, we were jumping out of our skin last night and it was difficult to believe that we were playing such tough scintillating Footy and kicking goal after goal without missing easy shots. At the end of the game I felt like I had a head spin, Awesome effort from our boy's, I loved every minute of that game. Go Dee's!!!!!!

The other one was definitely on Nev though. Sucked into the contest for no good reason and left Betts alone with a heap of space in a dangerous spot. However, I think it may have given him a necessary wake-up.

Yeah, one down moment in 2 hours of football. It didn't cost us. Thought he was AA-like (as usual).

TMac... I saw someone flagged a Reiwoldt like endurance (the N, not the J) ... I quite like TMAC defensively in all aspects aside from kicking... but jeez, could it be a long term proposition?

One other thing that I really loved from last night’s performance is how we targeted Sloan physically but didn’t do anything that would get our players suspended.

It’s one thing to be a physical team, but we have to play within the spirit of the rules and keep our best players on the park.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
