Blame the players for that.  We had first hands on the footy more often than not, yet we just turned it over.  Goodwin wasn't kicking it poorly or making the bad decisions.

No. He made changes. Most sort of had effect.

Anyone still think we can make finals?

i certainly don't I think similar to last year another development year will finish with around 10 wins, when you have 2 losses under a goal plus lose all our ruckman the footy gods are well against us this year

Great question, sadly for me no, unless we win some miracle wins like next week. The fact is that we have lost 4 games we seriously could have won. This side has improved but I dont think we will have 12 wins at the end of the season. Im changing my prediction to 10 or 11 which means we improved only in not being thumped in our losses. 2 rucks out so early in a season suck big time.

Can our defensive coach tell Jetta to not jump for marks when the macdonalds are around? Having 4 players jump for balls happens every game

When does this ever change for us?

When does Mfc stop being imposters?

Just so over it

Supporting this club is just so hard ,we want to believe but its just so hard

Just as we get some hope our emotions get smashed again

Over it

Really really over it

Honestly we play JKH over

Trengove, Kennedy, Stretch, Kent

Who anywhere would think he adds more value then these players?

Stretch, Kent and Harmes are a long way ahead Olisik but i'm sure someone here will still find some way of making excuses for leaving JKH in next week.  About the only positive was we saw (or didnt see) what JKH was capable of over the last 3 weeks and will hopefully now move on Deever.  But i wouldnt count on our FD. I have no faith in them whatsover that they will select AFL capable players over others who have shown nothing in the past (or of late) worthy of a regular ongoing gig in the red & blue, other than "promise" or "prospect". The MFC is a revolving door in this regard and i haven't seen any change at the selection table here since 2007.

We are always "out" with one non-contributer or two.... and "in" with a few others and you won't win too many matches with one or two players who don't contribute much over 4 quarters.  Some can't even impact over two or more quarters during a match and still manage to be gifted a few more games!

And here i was thinking we may have finally turned the quarter last week. How stupid am i. The Bongers must be horrid. We are still a bottom 6 club and extremely fragile upstairs regardless of who says we are on the improve!

I really liked our forward who kept leading into space tirelessly all game. Can't remember his name and can't remember seeing him and neither could his teamates.

I've come to accept the fact we are still at least a year off it... People forget we are in year 1 of Goodwin, yes he might have been pulling a few strings last year but it was still up to Roos. IF roos was still around we would have a better win/loss recored not because Goodwins not a good coach but because we would be in year 4. We have a new coach & learning a more attacking game style which was never going to be achieved in 1 year as much as we all hoped & wished it would.

We are the youngest side in the comp week in week out.. We are not a top 8 side yet as we all hoped & expected, we will hopefully match last years 10 wins & the lessons learnt this year will project us up starting next year. The sooner we all accept where we are at the better, which is a young side who are not quiet up to it atm.

I'm disappointed with Goodwin as coach mostly because we have lost our defensive edge completely. I lost count of how many times Hawthorn were streaming forward in packs unmanned.

I missed the first half but I feel the moves he made in the second half were very positive. Hunt into the forward line provided us with some real electricity, though I think the Hawks were able to curtail it for the 4th quarter.

Our game plan naturally opens us up if we don't use it properly so ball use is critical. Are we good enough to execute it yet?

I'll go for some positives to change things up and bare in mind I only saw the second half:

Hunt in the forward line is a genuine option. Not to put pressure on the kid but he reminds me of Nat Fyfe a bit and I'm starting to think he may be wasted as a defender. More midfield and forward roles could be in the cards for him.

Frost is fantastic in defence. I have to admit for a while I thought he may be just depth but he's defensively good and very quick and agile for such a big guy.

Viney was a big part of our comeback, he had ferocity for the contest and was able to read the mostly Hawthorn taps. My only criticism of him is that he's so used to working in tight spaces that when he does get free he's not hugely damaging.

Hogan kicking 3 goals after what he's been through. Just being out there is huge for him, well done.

Garlett was huge in that third quarter, but I will say I wasn't a fan of him showboating against the Hawks player. When you're behind you're asking for trouble if you play up like that. Wait until we're in front (which sadly never happened).

Until we consistently turn up and win games we are supposedly meant to win, we can forget finals.

Freo and Hawthorn so far.

We are known inside footy circles for getting comfortable too easy, and until we can rectify it, we are no hope.

1. Inexperience, both individually, but moreso together.

2. Lack of Gawn or even Spencer. Their talls did what they wanted.

Yep.  What they also did, which annoyed me, was they would chip it around the back half, hold on to it and then bomb it long where one of their talls would fly in from the side and mark it uncontested.  O'Brien did this to us all day.  He would be 10 metres off the contest and as soon as the ball was kicked he would run to the contest and jump over the top for the mark.  Clever play, but horribly frustrating to watch.

I highly doubt that, Rusty.  Even Saty was disappointed at half time.  He would be his only defender and even he couldn't do it.  No surer thing than him being dropped this week.

There tall forwards kicked 10 of there 14 goals.

Would love to see the stats of this over the year.

Gosh we miss a backman like Frawley. Meanwhile our compensation player for Frawley can't even get on the park on the VFL

There is still a lack of trust in your team mate in this group. Too many offensively and defensively jump for the same ball. Too many run to the same ball and then we are forced to do 2 metre handballs to stationary players to try and escape. This year is so frustrating because our best is sublime but we don't play with that trust and dare an attack consistently that good teams do. That's  a lack of maturity and a lack of leadership. JKH, Bugg not up to it. Hannan not up to it at least yet. Change them up. Reset and go again.

I feel the pain - oh, how I feel it - but let's get analytical. Why did we lose this one? My view - Hawthorn cut us apart with systematic footy, especially coming out of the backline with precision. When we played well, it was pretty raw and relying on some excellent individual feats. We didn't distribute well.

Agree with everything you say we would need to beat Adelaide for me to even contemplate thinking of finals, I'm sure the players will have a crack as that has not been an issue this year but we will get outclassed big time next week

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
