While I understand you were only kidding, no doubt there will be some peanut who sees this as an invitation to discuss him.

It would be nice if Watts could go unmentioned in the odd thread.

Clearly this Nick Bowen doesn't have too much of an idea when it comes to the MFC.

"Weideman, Melbourne's first selection in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft at pick No.9 overall, was due to come out of contract at the end of this season but the Demons and the 19-year-old's manager, Ben Williams of Players Ink, agreed to a new two-year deal this week."

I could be wrong, but the last time i checked, Pick #4 (Oliver) comes before #9.

Just an oversight when he looked it up. I wouldn't expect anyone other than hardcore club supporters or draft lovers to carry around in their head who was drafted when and at what place.

Last year was a nice bonus to see the Weed play a few games at AFL level and just as importantly have some really good stretches in the VFL.

So I hope we don't go overboard with expectations this year but the good news is he's stronger and was running really well when he came back from the break.

He has to hold more marks and work on his defensive pressure but the way he attacks the ball and his class stands out.

The 2 goals he got against the Dogs on the weekend were gifts but it shows he can read the play and run hard in to space to get on the end of it. He took a really nice mark as well and missed the shot that he'd usually kick based on his VFL form.

Caps off a brilliant 12 month of key signings. The club has done brilliantly here.

Resigning Sam is good news, he's on the right track and has some key attributes in terms of kicking and marking skills.  For anyone who saw the extent to which McGuire was bristling as host on Fox Footy when Sam played his first game against Hawthorn, it's clear that no stone will be left unturned by Collingwood to woo him across to the Pies if there's so much as a sniff.  The heritage and tradition facets of AFL/VFL and Collingwood's role within them are near and dear to Eddie and clearly it rankles that such a famous Magpie name is on the Demons' list.

Really? You wouldn't expect a professional who covers AFL as his job to know this?

These things happen so often and really these journalists should know a lot better.

Edit: Good to see Weideman commit.

Great to hear that more young talent is being locked away.

As for the Journo, did he count on his fingers but have his hands crossed?

There fantastic versatility in our forward line with no two players being the Sam style.

Weid adds a very important element if he continues to develop the way we all hope he will.

Wow, he is still only 19.

He wont hit  his straps for a while yet and I think Pedders will play more games than him in 2017.

Dammit was really looking forward to the Weideman puts contract talks on hold thread...aaah well.

In all seriousness,  who would want to leave this club now? We won't be losing any required players other than blokes who can no longer get games and look elsewhere for opportunities.

Excellent news.

I think 2018 and beyond will be our time to shine, but with every passing day, I become more excited by what lies ahead for season 2017.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
