Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have to confess that I'm overcome with boredom over the 2016 trade period.

It's not just that Melbourne seems to be predominantly sidelined because of a lack of currency to trade with but also because most of the mooted trade deals give the appearance of having been set up a fair way back in time.

Did anyone doubt that Jaeger O'Meara would nominate Hawthorn or Caleb Marchbank would announce his preference for Carlton? Anyone surprised that Travis Cloke is off to the Doggies? In all three cases, the rumours that these players were going to those clubs have been circulating for some time.

There's nothing particularly interesting about this time of year. I'm already over this trade period.

Would Hogan requesting a trade stir the loins WJ?

I haven't had much to say on that situation to date because I'm as much in the dark as anyone else. If the decision comes down to a personal one - i.e to be with the family during his father's illness, then I suppose it's one that we have no option but to accept, move on and make the best of things and we'll certainly become much more involved in this year's drafting and trading. We still might have missed the boat with some potential trades but to date, I haven't been interested in the names thrown up. The one player mentioned in despatches who interested me was Rockliff (not in the context of a replacement for Hogan, of course) but that one's gone quiet.

If Hogan's decision is financial then it's a commercial decision of the club dependent upon how the CBA works out and we might be forced into a position where his contract talks remain on hold until next year. At least that would give us more time to convince him he should stay at the club.

Personally im excited.

Can't wait to see what suprise packet Mahoney, Taylor and Viney could this year.

I am expecting at least one surprise, be that a trade,  free agent or smoky draft pick.

Scottie Thompson had 12 tremendous years at Adelaide.

Better that we had given him and would give a Hogan a year's absence at half-pay.

BTW we got pick 12 which became 15 and then Dunn.

Both WA clubs want Hogan.  hat gives us a good bit of power when it comes to a trade even if he is asking to go home.  I maintain that the price would be two first round picks or equal value in players.

I'd say even higher, if Treloar is worth 2 first round picks, Hogan is worth that and a good young player imo

well i like the Joel Smith and the Maynard gets, Smith looks like he has the goods, we can hope Maynard does to. We dont have a lot of good draft picks so it is important that we either get reasonable value for players we can trade or pick decent free agents that will provide us with an upgrade on the players we delist or loose.

Pick 12 got traded to Geelong for Moloney.

We got pick 15 for Jolly and used it on Dunn.

Lost both of them.

As an asides (which I think could describe this whole thread anyway), has been great listening to all the commentators talking down Hawthorn's mid field depth over the past few days, with the highlight being when Jonathan Brown stated that the cracks in their invincibility started to show when they were convincingly beaten by a young Melbourne midfield in Rd 20.

I do find it amusing how fickle commentators can be when at the start of the season they were all talking up the Hawks great depth, development and how they had this next wave of young stars coming through, but now they see worrying signs on the Hawks talent.

We are yet to see how far and how fast the Dorks fall, but for the moment, I'm enjoying the fact that they have fallen off their high, aragent perch and the likely prospect that they will fall further.

I hope we never trade our 1st rounder again unless its for an established gun.  Trade period and the draft will be so boring this year.

Was going to be super interesting... then the AFL decided to ruin trading for points. Im sure we had big plans to trade our way up into the first round right up until that happened.

Well, we're three days into the shenanigans and if anyone is excited by the free agency and trade period then they must be on some dangerous meds.

I came home for the afternoon and I keep reading and hearing about "all the exciting trade news" but all I see is grass growing.

Josh Mahoney - do something. We're all bored out of our brains!

Patience WJ, patience, remember last year when Mahoney was a combination of Batman and Steve Bradbury with his stealth and ability to surprise so many at the end...

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
