We promised to rookie him but took Jurrah instead. He was very dirty.

The HUN have put an article up claiming that Tom Mitchell is 'ready' to request a trade to Whorethorn and sign a lucrative 4 year deal.

Good signing, but he won't stop their decline either.  With Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne, Gibson etc. all very close to retirement, a few mids and Ty Vickery won't halt their slide down the ladder.

Suns and Giants trying to wrap up the top cluster of picks (except pick 1) in order to not have to use them to get their academy players. They trade 2 x first round picks to get picks 2, 3, maybe 5 and 6, and then use later picks for academy points.

And that's the system and the loophole that goes with it I guess.  I'd complain but we've been a part of a few trades that have helped both clubs in this area and I didn't complain about it then.

How many people who were running the club then are still there now?

It wouldn't be hard for Taylor/Viney/Mahoney/Goodwin/whoever to go "yeah yeah sorry, those guys were idiots, the club isn't like that now.".  If he still holds a grudge over that, he's probably a sandwich short of a picnic anyway.

Agree there is next to no chance. The only thing that gives it some credence is that Rockliff is on a contract that is so large that few clubs are willing or able to take it on. Also he is apparently on the nose with the Brisbane hierarchy. I find it strange they made him captain in the first place.

Like most here if we could afford to take on his contract, without jeopardising our salary cap flexibility, I would take him in a heartbeat

I'm not sure if that's right.

Firstly, we took Liam Jurrah with first pick in the preseason draft and Rockliff went to the Lions with the fifth pick in that draft. Had the Lions taken a different player, then we would have picked him as a rookie with first selection.

Secondly, I've never heard it said that Rockliff had been promised anything or that he was resentful of Melbourne for taking Jurrah in the PSD ahead of him.

Rockliff was training with us at the time, and my recollection was that all and sundry believed we would take him with our PSD pick.  The selection of Jurrah with the PSD pick was totally out of the blue and allowed the Lions to swoop.

That generation of recruiting staff also had form with telling players we'd take them and then spontaneously taking someone else when the time came to deliver (ref Bennell-Sloane), so while this is all hearsay, it adds up to a plausible story.

He's still a tool if he's not over it by now though.

Team Mahoney/Viney/Taylor have demonstrated ability in pulling rabbits of hats, so I hope you're right.

I've got to say I've never been as excited by a bunch of bland footy administrators as I am by this team.  So boring to listen to, so many runs on the board to date.

In theory they can do that. But pretty sure the way the rules are set up would see them go into recession for the 2017 draft.

I don't have the formula in front of me, but lets say GWS stock pile a bunch of top 20 picks and only a few late ones.

Come draft time a team bids Pick 25 on a GWS Academy player and pick 25 = 500 points. Now after the 20% discount etc lets say with the picks GWS has left, GWS find themselves 200 points shy of the points required. Well they can still take said player, but they'll loose 200 points off their first draft pick next year. So Pick 17 may become 18 or 19etc.

That's my understanding of how it's supposed to work as anyway.

No. Perhaps getting Brand opens up Frost for forward/ruck role if injuries occur.

Hopefully not. It was blindingly obvious early in the season and confirmed later in the season that Frost is much more valuable as a defender than a forward.

That story was "supplemented" a little later on the same program with the suggestion that the player in question is a 4x Premiership player aged around 30-31. I'm not sure who of the limited pool of players fits that criteria. Mitchell and Burgoyne are too old. Perhaps Lewis or Birchall? (I expect Roughead is also in that window but I assume for other reasons it's not him.)

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
