Apparently GWS Giants defender Caleb Marchbank has requested a trade with a number of Victorian clubs interested in the former top ten pick services for 2017.

Want. Asking price could be too high though?

I think that's where our enquiries will end.

Doubtful.
Early draft pick, but he hasn't done too much to prove himself at this stage.

I think that's where most of our inquiries will end during this trade period.  Marchbank would more than likely be a terrific acquisition, but with plenty of other clubs feeling the same way and more picks or players up their sleeve, I doubt we'll get much of a look in.

Probably true... However, with all the good currency going towards some of the bigger names, and with us having a good trade relationship with GWS, we could be a chance? Future second rounder and a player maybe?

Huge chance to end up at Carlton, but rate the kid and would love him

He would be competing with Oscar (Same position, age, size).  Caleb may be very good but I prefer Oscar thanks and use any chips available for Caleb for another position player.

Pass. I think our defence will be outstanding next year with the 2 Macs, Frost, Hibberd, Hunt, Harry LaBamba (yes he'll be playing next year) and depth in Wagner and Garland/Dunn if they hang around.

We have other areas of concern - i.e. pacy mids, resting ruck etc..

For the reasons you mention we probably won't pursue Marchbank.

That said, imo Marchbank will be a better player than Oscar.

Top 10 pick who's been injured since he was drafted more or less.  Huge wraps on him though.

We don't need another key defender given the young group we're putting together down back.

On the other hand, he'd almost certainly be an upgrade on to of them if he could get on the park.

Depends on the price and whether he wants to come and play I would guess.

Why?

I kind of get your curiosity on this one Saty.

If Oscar improves at the rate he did throughout this year, we will have a top liner on our hands.

If he is as talented as some suggest, I dislike the idea of Carlton picking up a top 10 recruit for very little. It annoys me. Still, he won't help their third world midfield (that still manages to kill us every time).

Would like to get him, especially if we're looking to move on Dunn and/or Garland. Go after Steele too please. OH, and WHE :)

Apparently the Blues will get a few more Giants. He could be one of them.

Then we should go after him.

Carlton supporters have been saying for some time that both Marchbank and Tomlinson were signed, sealed and delivered.

Sounds like they had some inside information.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
