I still remember my trip to Europe the year when there were whispers about Paul Roos being appointed as coach. I visited every chapel and cathedral I could find, lit enough candles to start a fire and did several hundred Hail Marys.

I am so grateful to whatever power bought him to our club????

The pyjama, PJ.

Hope the boys put up a good fight for his last match today. Disappointing we weren't able to make finals this year but we have improved a lot and Roos has done a great job getting us on track.

Enjoy Hawaii Roosy!

Has revived my passion for football rather than the routine of going cos thats just what you do. He could have easily put wins this year ahead of development and setting us up for sustained success. I think this says the most about him.

Thanks Roosy but more-so PJ in persevering and getting the right man for the job.

The players clearly liked him with this send off they are giving him.

What an insipid performance.  A typical Melbourne performance.

What a way to thank the coach.

Just an appalling showing.

This is atrocious. If I were Paul Roos, I'd be on the phone to Peter Jackson saying: "My job is clearly not over. Let's do another year."

Wish I could tie the umpires to a chair and stick hot pins under their fingernails.

It really hurts.

I'm so sorry Paul. This club doesn't deserve you and the hard work you've put in. You must breathe a sigh of relief not having to deal with the losers loitering round the place anymore. Enjoy retirement!

Nice game we played for Roosy's end off. Are we going to get back to our old ways (crap) ,perhaps we love being pathetic. I also remember we played a match in honour of Stynes against Geelong and that ended in a 186 pt loss. I actually think we should trade Hogan for a 1st round pick  that will improve our bargaining power for the future. It is also about time to change the Captain for a more aggressive one. If this junk club starts off like this next year,I for one will quit.

Not a fan of the "we're not worthy" attitude at all.

Anyway, thanks Paul. It's a shame we part on a sour note, but like others have said, you have put the building blocks in place to at least give us a shot again. We owe you plenty.

Poor Roosy. Wish I could apologise on the players' behalf for today's performance.

He was paid handsomely to minimise this sought of debacle. Perhaps I'm being harsh.

I think you are.  We have been playing Goodwin's game plan since just before the bye.

We have gone so far into 'taking the game on' we have forgotten all the lessons of 'defence first' that Roos taught in his first year (when Goodwin wasn't at the Dees).  I don't think we can pin it all on to Roos tbh.

Roos has achieved what he promised.  Today does not diminish that.  Its terribly sad that this is the last game of his tenure and there is no chance to redeem the situation for him.  Just so sad - he deserves so much better.

I still tips my hat to Roos for everything he has done for our club.  I will be eternally grateful.

Fair point. I'm sure initially he took up the job for the attractive salary, but I think now he has a genuine interest in the club. He seemed emotional in the final press conferences and to finish off the year like so, is a huge travesty. Our worst loss under his coaching, yet our year has been so much more than what we put on display today. I expected to lose today, but not to the extent we did and actually thought we would be competitive. Oh well, bring on 2017 and I'm hoping that maybe Goodwin's more modern approach to football sees us improve even further on what Roos has already established for us.

No. you are being honest.

When the players realise that only they can change things then even the reincarnation of Knute Rockne wouldn't help.

Discussion of Roos' speech at the B n F: http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/paul-roos-says-melbourne-united-richmond-in-disarray-in-farewell-speech/news-story/115f12006df77c0be0f041f29f1e68e8

Roos' own farewell message to the players:  Decide to be great. It is a decision, it doesn’t happen by accident,”...“You have to want to be great. And greatness is not going to happen when you turn up on November 1 or whenever you turn up and Simon has got the whistle in charge...“Greatness is going to happen when you walk out of this room tonight. That’s when greatness starts...“You have to commit to it you have to want to do it and I would love nothing more than to see Simon and Nathan holding up the premiership cup.”

He has laid down the challenge:  Greatness.  Up to the players now.  Hope they want it as badly as we do.:roos:

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
