Shane Warne could spin a ball at right angles on a pane of glass... that's kinda where his talent ends.

I would think you'd need 13-14 to make the 8 this year and StKilda are too hot'n'cold to make confident predictions about any of those games.

They're building, but they're not there yet.

Oh c'mon, he was a pretty good dancer on a balcony with a beer in hand. And he's apparently a fast swiper on Tinder (according to BBO).

Saints will end up with 11 wins, 12 at best. A very good effort this year but not finals. They will struggle to take the next step as Roo, Joey, et al retire.

In theory we can still make it too

But we still don't know which team shows up each week...

Sure we do: The inconsistent one.

I think they're basically on the same chance as us, with a slightly easier run home. Can see them getting 10-11 wins but no more. Won't be at all surprised if they finish higher than us, there's been a lot of talk about us but in my eyes we are yet to prove ourselves. A stupid, pathetic, disgraceful, sickening loss to Essendon has hamstrung us for the entire year and aside from pinching the win vs GWS in round 1 (minus Cameron) we haven't beaten anyone of note.

They got that big win against the Cats and that can be the catalyst (not pun intended) for their improvement. But as said above, the difference between their best and worst is too big (bigger than ours IMO) and I also feel they are too reliant on older players who will be gone in the next 2 years. We are at least too reliant on younger players who will only get better and more consistent.

Saints looking at something of a false dawn. They will peak this year then crumble away.

They don't have sufficient to underpin continued growth.

And they still beat us lol

no chance. even with their easy draw this year.  they've been smashed by good teams: 103 pts WC, 90 pts Crows etc.  port easily beat them

10 wins max.

only thing I want from this season?  BEAT THE [censored] SAINTS!!

Their young forward line looks the goods at the moment. We hope weid and hulett will come through but McCartin, Bruce, Membrey all starting look pretty good prospects right now. They still move the ball much better than we do, and they have alot more outside run. If you lock them inside they are easy to thrash because they are young but if they can get out they are hard to beat. We wont know turely about the saints untill their old fellas retire because they only seem to win when Riewoldt and Montagna play well (or maybe they only play well when the kids win idk) but either way i think they have more to offer than just a false dawn.

Id take a 80 point hiding this year over being beaten by the VFL drug cheats..

Who cares if they got thumped by other sides, losing to Essendon is an even bigger disgrace. Should never have happened. A game thats potentially going to bite us in the end.

We won't make finals but id expect us to push top 6 next year.

If we beat the crows this week then we will be rolling.

Saints are all over the shop. They might win more than us but I say neither saints or dees sneak in for finals.

Their Oldies drive their game.

Take them away and what replaces their experience and leadership ?

We know this doesn't grow on trees.

Wow!!!  She Warne said so thus it becomes a news item :-(

Yeah, Saint's percentage kind of makes it hard. Even before today, which looks to have sealed that question. Good job Warnie.

That said, West Coast have a tough final half-dozen rounds and may flater severely, it is conceivable that either of the chasers - Port and Melbourne - could pick up two wins and a chunk of percentage to slip ahead of them.

Aaaaand.... North.... faltering... now only 3 games ahead of the chasers and with the worst % of the top 8, with a toughish draw coming up.

It's conceivable that 12 wins with good percentage will let a team slip into 8th, if either of West Coast or North really falter.

Go into a game expecting to win.......... You lose

Demons V Essendon, Saints V GC today  etc etc

To a mere punter and fan like myself its so obviously very much played above the ears

What the good teams do, Hawks etc.... that we dont yet do..... is play HARD whoever the opposition

Dont pick and choose

Or is it more complicated than that

Unfortunately, I think that it is still self-interest that causes a lot of our headaches when it comes our own performances.

There aren't too many things is the current world of AFL that would give me more pleasure! Even if they just scraped into the 8 and went out straight away.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
