I agree Xarronn. I reckon Goody's influence on this matter would be quite telling.

Clearly he's not part of his 2017 plans. Fair enough, though many should be breathing a sigh of relief that they're in Goody's good graces.

I'd be pretty disappointed if Grimes has been held down because a seat is being kept warm for Melksham.

It's pretty simple really: he's not one of the Cool Kids, like Chris Dawes.

Grimes is being robbed.  Cant believe Dawes gets a game ahead of him, and dont give me the position excuse as Dawes plays like a midget anyway.

Now I see it, Dawes IS the reason Grimes is not getting a game. You are spot on. Great get.

Roos said in a press conference last week that when Grimes comes back in he wants him to stay in. He obviously doesn't want to drop him after a game or two. If he were dropped again, then that would be it for Grimes. Sent to the VFL for a sustained time to find some form and get his confidence up.

Not sure it is doing his confidence much good to be constantly getting 25 touches and seeing almost every other candidate for a promotion go up past him.

They're holding him back just long enough for his form to tail off (because he surely can't stay in good form the entire season) then they won't have to put him in, because his 'form doesn's justify it'

Sounds pretty childish to me. I think Roos and Co would be keeping Grimes more in the loop than what we are guessing at is going on.

We can only fit so many turnover merchants in the backline.

Oh, of course. I was being a little bit facetious, but agree that he will know exactly what's going on.

While his form is good, they probably see him as a safe pair of hands in the event of a late change, but not really good enough to give him a game consistently, or even at all.

We're such an elite team we simply can't find room for Grimes. Which of these stars would you drop to bring him in: Dawes, Kent, Frost, O.McDonald, Bugg, Kennedy, Vandenberg, Harmes, and M.Jones? Not to mention the games that we have gifted to Lumumba, Dunn, Newton, Garland, Michie, Neal-Bullen and Wagner at various stages. Simply pathetic.

No doubt Grimes plays two more games this season, but people need to let go of the idea that he'll be playing in the red and blue next year. Unless of course it's on the rookie list, but doubt he'd stay there.

Expect Jack to play again against the Gold Coast too on the 'G.

I haven't been his biggest fan over the journey, but I'm happy he'll get his 100 games in the next fortnight.

I loved Plapp's last comment in the VFL player review:

"Fingers crossed for Grimesy and he gets an opportunity soon, because he’s doing everything to get that opportunity."

He might as well have said "enough is enough Roosy, pick him already".

Have been told that Grimes called Roos out on a matter some time ago and Roos was not happy and ego has been a big part of him not getting a game. Likely to retire at years end.

Retire? I could see Richmond, Essendon (Mark Neeld connection) and maybe even GC having a crack at Grimes.

Interesting if true but i wonder where he sits with Simon Goodwin. I know Goodwin has a pretty healthy relationship with all players so i wonder if Goodwin will do what Ken Hickley did for Kane Cornes career.

If that is true, it would be a sad indictment on Roos as a person, let alone a coach. Roos' selection policies do leave him open to those thoughts though.

Melksham is a better player than Grimes.

Find this hard to believe.

Although you do have runs on the board, what with claiming Watts wasn't at last year's Bluey and ANB is a future captain...

I thought at first it might be believable because I have no doubt Roos has a healthy ego. Then I tried to imagine Roos sitting in a committee room with Goodwin, Rawlings, Plapp and whoever else, replying to each call for Grimes to be picked with "nah, sorry boys, he called me out on something six months ago". I can't see how people who have an interest in the team and no interest in Roos' ego would allow that to fly and I can't see Roos pulling rank on them over it.

Just relaying a conversation I had with someone who knows him well. Re: Watts I think you'll find the context was that he was nowhere to be seen on leaderboard....As for Nibbler, he's a second year player but he is a natural leader....Good onya

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
