On paper an on form we should have this, but our mental fragility is the question, are we going to come out trying to beat Collingwood by 100 points or are we coming out just hoping to win and being satisfied by staying close to them on the scoreboard.  The dees have to set their sights high and give themselves a stretch target not just aim to get the 4 points by a point or a goal, we need to win and win well.

All we have to do is put in the effort we did last week and the rest will take of itself.

Knowing the family I kept an eye on Hunt

Me too. But of a challenge this week for Jayden, growing up in a Collingwood mad family.

He even named his dog "Buckley".

All this travelling is getting to me with three away games in a row, against Essendon, North and tomorrow, the Pies. I can't wait until next week when we play the Tiges at home on the "G". Shame it is also their home ground as well!

For our boys its all between the ears.

We now have the talent it's just the space between the ears that needs a lot of work.

Have a look at the side I selected a few hours ago!

I hope that Hunt's debut isn't at the expense of either Garlett or Brayshaw returning! Do they have to cut three out of the extended interchange bench when they finalise the list, or can they drop one (or two) of the players named in field positions (such as Bugg or M.Jones)? The MFC website says that he is a starter.

If Garlett is fit he will start ahead of the rest.

I watched Hunt at Casey last Saturday and he certainly showed a real turn of speed but I am still concerned with his disposal. He is so quick that he looked faster than Kent prior to his injury last year. It is his decision making after he has the ball but given that I also believe that having a solid stable forward line will provide for him more options going forward. (Loved his conversation with his Mum to let her know he had been picked.)

Last Saturday at Casey I also noticed Petracca (wrong topic I know) when on the sideline didn't actually sit down but was very loudly yelling encouragement to players. He will not only be a huge presence on field but also off-field.

Kennedy I think was described by one of the players "as an angry little man". If he is anything like that other angry little man in brown expect him to fire up against his former team mates. As to HL , he now has the confidence in both ankles after last week and I expect another running performance from him.

Decided to change the pickets in the fence late in the week, eh?

Well clearly after watching the news and the unequivacals surrounding Petracca and Weeds then of course I hade to recast the side! If all my changes get a run, Its all over Magpies!

Any thoughts on making sure Cloke the oaf doesn't get another bag against us to run himself into form?

We know he's in poor form, but the thought of that scenario makes me vomit in my mouth a little bit.

My confidence with both TMac and Dunny is shaky, and we know Roosy won't play Frost back....

The really galling thing was, we didn't play him into form. He was back to his mediocre usualness the following week.

His game against us was an outlier in a season of ordinariness for him.

We need Brayshaw and Garlett to play. Not fussed about the rest.

I am not confident about this game at all. It seems that we come up against teams that really need a win and build themselves up massively a few times a year. We had one two weeks ago and have one this week and may have another next week.

We don't seem to that situation very well at all.

Every team thinks they can beat Melbourne because we create turnovers and we have been soft in the past and fold very easily.

Until we can shake that then it will happen.

Their team actually looks pretty good on paper. But damn, some of their players are performing horribly.

Pendles is a gun but very sore, Cloke horribly out of form, Sidebottom not the player he was, Treloar prolific but wasteful and Adams decidedly underwhelming.

After reading that sentence, I feel more confident.

And Essendon had 12 of their best 22 out......

I would of liked to see Oscar Mac come in with Brayshaw,Garlett and Hunt.

Drop Frost possibly with M Jones and Vince and Vanders

BB Jetta O Mac Salem

HB Lumumba T Mac Stretch

C Tyson N Jones Brayshaw

HF Watts Dunn Kennedy

FF Garlett Hogan Kent

R Gawn Viney Oliver

INT Hunt Bugg Wagner Harmes

Dunn to go forward, Frost and Pederson to never be seen again (wishful thinking). Let Wiedman get some VFL experience before he comes in as that second or third Tall. Dunny to play that role for now. Give Oscar Mac the job on Moore and Tom on Clokey.

3 smalls Kent,Garlett and Kennedy to use their speed in the forward half with M Williams out they are lacking even one small defender. Let's take advantage of this.

Bugg will follow Trealor  around all day.

Gawn to explode with Viney and Oliver destroying the clearances

Thats just my Thursday night footy brain ticking over but hey what the hell do I know leave it to you Roosy.

Im not going to lie.. Very nervous about this game. Its just so typical of Melbourne to play a team into form. They have brought some experience  back in while we are going in with a very young team.

In saying that if we bring that same intensity and pressure i have no doubt we will win.

Knowing the family I kept an eye on Hunt in the two pre-season games he played. For some reason he did not play against the Saints nor in the intra-club that weekend.

I must say he was disappointing, so he must have shown improvement since.

Dad, Alan is in China playing golf but may be back by Sunday. Uncle Andy (Moir) will be there to see his number 29 run around.

Didn't know that. Andy Moir was a very talented but frustrating player. Typical of many half forward flankers of the era he could star one week and kick a bag and then barely get a touch for a month. Could take a fair hanger too

Vince out and Sidebottom and Varcoe in ain't great.

Feel nervous too.

Interesting I have seen no comment from senior MFC people chastising Vince for his brainfade, token elbow to the head that cost him a game and the club.  Or did I miss it? Fact is as a leader he should have been given a right old rollicking by Roos for that effort. Maybe he was behind closed doors. But I haven't noticed any club response.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
