Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The age factor is there but let's say we got him very cheap DS and Weid (just speculating) is a bust after another 8 games or so of trialling in 2020.  No Bull Smith.  We are starting to plumb the depths a little in terms of support for T-Mac in the KF stakes.  And what if he Tommy doesn't cut the mustard in 2020 or incurs a new injury?  Not saying he will and hoping otherwise but need to look at the  "what ifs".  Especially MFC luck with injuries, anything's possible.

If we got two reasonable years and an improvement on what the Weid brings at the moment?  All stats point to a fair upgrade in comparison.  Might be the difference between a bounce vs a slim finals shot next season?  Two years max on small coin and we have some KF depth/insurance.  Maybe a win win?  Normally i wouldn't even consider JJ but beggars can't be choosers and in JJ's case there's no begging.  He wants out!...

 https://www.afl.com.au/stats/stats-pro#/Compare?playerIds=CD_I294828,CD_I993806&comparisonTab=h2h

He's going to give up money and be a cheap trade to bring in but that means he'll have an expectation that he'll play in and contribute to a good side, otherwise he's almost better off staying at the Crows and getting his cash. So what happens if he starts to struggle as most limited 31 year old key forwards do. He bounces in and out of the side with Weid? That doesn't help the team or Weid's development.

The only stat he clearly outranks Weideman in is goals where he's 2 a game v Sam's 1 a game. An extra goal a week is nice but I think Sam could get to a 1.5 goals a game pretty easily and can do more with bringing team mates in to the game and that's without even making a big leap in improvement.

We can't be operating under the expectation of a string of injuries, we have to at least assume a group of T Mc, Weid, Petty with some subpar but interesting options in J Smith and Preuss get through a fair chunk of the season. Give me at least 1 of the first 3 guys every week and pinch hit with one of the latter 2 if needed is what I'd do. Plus a kid or state league depth option with upside.

If the current crop isn't working then I think we'll have to go hard at a permanent replacement and Jenkins is just wasting money and resources if that's the case.

He'll be 31, not chasing, not tackling, not crashing packs, bobbing up on twitter and SEN whilst playing for Casey.

I don't care if he cost 500k or 5k I don't see the appeal.

Take the chance with an athletic junior or state league player and save the cash for a shot at Ben King if Weid or Petty don't work out.

Took the words right out of my mouth DeeSpencer.

He's done. I wouldn't be surprised if no other club shows any interest. 1 tackle per game & 1 contested mark per game.....

Give me a break. The Melb recruiters are a bit smarter than that......(I hope)

One thing unmentioned is his debut in 2012 at the age of 23. So It's not as if he's been in the system for that long. Perhaps that could help longevity re risk of slow down. We just lost a 28 year old KPF just above peak age, that had only been in the system for 2 years. So it's fickle as to who can impact at what age, who can have a prolonged career and who can't. A proven track record of games played per season, goals kicked and a lack of injury history could work in his favor, even for a 31 year old next season.

Crows look like turning over a lot of senior players this trade period. Will be very interesting to watch.

Jenkins, Betts, Ellis-Yolman, Jacobs, Greenwood Crouch and Keith. With Ottens and Douglas finishing up as well.

Bottom 4 next year, you reckon, mate?

Often happens when you lose that much experience.

Depends who they replace them with I suppose.

Dont know about bottom 4.

They are looking at a young ruck from Port Adelaide, Billy Frampton. Not sure who else, but they will certainly not be quiet during draft week/s

It might just be me, but i feel that Weids doubts his own ability. Someone at the club needs to sit him down a continually show him his games in the finals last year.

Agree. He is a confidence player

Whilst I agree the club can help with getting him in the right mindset, he needs to find needs an intrinsic capacity to get himself psychologically ready.

A poor mans Juice Newton. I'd rather we rookie Juice or Fevola.

When did Juice Newton achieve anything at senior level like this?

-Josh Jenkins averaged two goals per game this year and booted at least 40 goals each season between 2014-2018.

Let the Crows pay his huge $$$ pay rate.  They are rabble.  No club should take him on, not even the Suns.

They'll be paying at least some if it either way, Jay Clark reporting this morning that if a club picks him up they may get him for as low as 200k per season.

Hold on . Didn't Juice Newton kick 5 goals in the first quarter against North at Etihad one year as well as take what should have been the mark of the year in the same game??

He kicked 3 against Carlton once. Does that count? That was a great grab though.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
