Exactly.  Why does it seem to always happen to us?

That was an absolute disgrace  - simply beyond me how that was not even cited.

very poor from Vince.  you cant swing your elbow like that.

we dont really have a replacement for him as he is a class of his own regarding skills, inside/outside game, experience

Brayshaw will do.  if fully fit

MIDFIELDER Bernie Vince has been charged by the match review panel for striking North Melbourne’s Jamie Macmillan during Sunday’s five-point loss at Blundstone Arena.

Vince can accept a one-match penalty after initially being given two matches.

The incident was deemed intentional, high contact and low impact.

Yeah it was stupid raising the elbow but its not like he sent him off concussed.

Contact or no contact, the act of raising the elbow in such close proximity should get any player a week's holiday.

no, no no no.  lets not get too ....  he put the elbow up with no force...  it was not a  "thrown elbow" ...  somewhere between a block & a reach,  with no force.

Tell that to Pedersen who had his nose smashed by Merritt after taking a mark and saw no penalty.

Yes.  you should always be able to put the forearm up as defence.  but you should have to bare the responsibility of over doing it.  So if injuries occur,  the careless player should miss the same  'injury time',  as the casualty.

We must have depth now because I'm not crying into my beer and give us a good chance against the pies without him.

Gives someone like Nibbler or even Hunt (some outside run) an opportunity.

Also means it's time for Dom Tyson to stand up!

In Sidebottom Out Vince.  Not helpful.

Out Marley Williams and possibly Howe may help a bit.

Then again he won't drop Howe because it is us.

Decent loss. Usually 30 odd possessions a week. Whoever comes in will need to get it a few times.

Yeh it was a cheap shot and Bernie would be well aware that he has let the club down.

But honestly, there's a part of me that kind of enjoyed it. Obviously there is no courage involved in an act like that and I wouldn't want to see it happen again anytime soon.

Also, his bump on Ziebell - savage. Vince clearly didn't set out to make any friends yesterday and that is fine by me.

The bump was perfect, and I loved the way he stuck his tackles and would not let his opponents up easily, stuff em. But the elbow was just stupid. I thought he didn't really make contact so might have been lucky, but you can't really have too many complaints about getting a week.

It seems such a huge brain-fade.  Was there any history between him and the Norf player?

WHat? Like we dropped Pederson?

Last year we were insipid in round 2. Vince came out rampaging in round 3 with his job on Dangerfield. Similar thing this week.

What I'd prefer to see would be the job of enforcer go to a lesser and replaceable player. And a few more of our players take up the challenge of physical football without crossing the line so much.

Or if we do cross the line at least make sure we back it up with hard physical play as we did on the weekend.

The old rule is the first to the ball usually gets looked after by the umps. Unfortunately that wasn't the case on the weekend

This is the first time Howe would be playing against us. Unlikely therefore to be dropped, but we will see. He was the second lowest possession count for the Pies last week.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
