Dom Tyson has to be dropped (Rd 1)

It's not just his kicking.  I watched Dom closely throughout the NAB challenge and he has a shocking habit of handballing to feet when he's under no pressure.  He did this again today when we were flying through the middle, under little pressure he handballed to Oscar running past, straight to his toes - and instead of an extremely promising inside 50 it became a horrible turnover.

Unforced mistakes in the current game are what absolutely kill you due to the unpredictability, so limiting them is key.

I feel like other players are leapfrogging him more and more as their impact on a game is just so much more valuable.  When does Dom really impact a game and inspire his teammates?

I don't want him to be dropped but he must surely be on notice - he needs to stand up and be counted and soon. Seems to have good goal sense and marking ability, maybe we try him forward for a game or two?

precisely. One of the reasons Hawthorn cut everyone to shreds is because when they do that link up play they actually hand the ball to their teamates' advantage, not to their toes (funny that!). We did this about 20 times today and it is unforgivable for a junior suburban player, let alone an AFL professional.

I thought he was well below his best today but he is strong in the contest and takes some pressure off our other mids...

On today's game I would say AVB was also ordinary at times, dropped some easy marks and made some poor decisions. Kent needs to take his opportunities, he needs to kick the gettable goals and make better decisions. Frost and Pedders didn't give much, Omac is a kid so will cut him some slack, Bugg was quiet, Salem did some good things but at times looked a step behind the play and his opponent.

It wasn't a great performance today, there was much more wrong than just Tyson. We got the points because some of our players stepped up and that is a real bonus.

Kent does little things that nobody sees it's called pressure he's s [censored] ripper and must be the first player to sign a new contract this year he's had nearly a year out

Agreed Curry but calls by others to drop him after one game (any player for that matter) seems harsh.

It wouldn't be Demonland unless we call for players to be dropped after a win......Some players played really well....Some didn't....How about we just bask in the win and be happy for a change.

If we're to be a better team and Kent a better player he's got to make the most of his opportunities.

What I see is a forward line that works hard to apply pressure and turn the ball over, but when we get the turnover we must take maximum advantage.

Kent needs to improve in this area to be a more valuable player, for such a good technical kick of the footy he doesn't use it well enough.

Still a young player and as you say he's missed a lot of games so time is on his side...but for me Kent is still a work in progress and no guarantee over the long term.

He cost us two third-quarter goals yesterday, and also fumbled an easy handpass in the third quarter, which almost cost us a goal. Thankfully he recovered and handballed on, but I was done with him when he fumbled it.

We can't get a break sometimes. We either can't hit targets, or hit targets and the receiver fumbles it lol

Gets it and plays his role! Occasional mistakes I can live with because he has appetite for the contest and the ball!

Absolutely agree.  Unbelievable negativity by some very tortured fans (which is no excuse really) on Demonland.

That was his first game since round 3 2015 Roos obviously rates him highly .

Round 4 actually. Amazing how quickly events fade - I'd forgotten that he missed so much of the season.

Doesn't make rjay's assessment any less valid though. There's plenty to like about Kent, and clearly best 22 at this stage, but I agree that he is still a work in progress with no guarantee of success.

You're kidding aren't you. A slow, one sided, inside midfielder that doesn't have a great leap isn't cutting it in the midfield so we find a spot for him up forward.

You're kidding right?

No chance Tyson will be dropped this week, unless injured. No chance.

Like we have such a strong midfield we can afford to not play him!

Let's get real.

I'm just penciling him in until Prestia gets here. Then he's straight back to Casey to work on his disposal.

Dom stays another week. Was a poor game but he still sits in the best 22 until someone takes his spot.

We have some talent pushing through but I think Dom holds his spot for the time being.

picking next weeks team is about picking the best 22. That means if someone has been doing the right thing in practice matches, training, or with Casey and they look to be a better option than even a player playing well then we need to go with that better option. Yes it is not necessarily fair that a player be dropped, but we need to put our best 22 out there every week, and we have to reward players who earn that call up. Petraca is one that I think has earned that call up.

Earned what?!  He hasn't played a bl**dy game for Casey yet!  Staggering comment.  When will we learn that you don't just put someone in the team purely on the basis of talent when they haven't earnt it through performance.  And before you say "Oliver"....he earnt it by playing well in three NAB Challenge games and proving it with performance in games

Dom is fine.
He is in our best 22 every day of the week.
It is round 1 folks, lets not call for the heads of any of our main mids yet.

I think we should all be celebrating a great win instead of being so fickle with our players and attacking each other.

None of us here know the boys and the game more than the coaching staff, so let's enjoy the next 5 days, wait for the teams to be released and move on from there.

Tyson had a bad day but some of the garbage Ive read in this thread reminds me why Ive avoided this place for a while.

Tyson is best 22 unless his disposal stays bad for a few more weeks

if Brayshaw comes back in it wont be Tyson that is omitted.

And those bagging him as being over-rated are embarrassing themselves. Played with an injury all last season.

I don't think Tyson is a bad kick, i just think he's a bit lazy at times and makes some awful decisions and doesn't execute well enough

So basically he is a pretty bog ordinary kick & poor decision maker then. That's a pretty ugly combo at AFL level i would have thought. I agree he needs a good stint downstairs to clean things up but not until someone better is available (Brayshaw)

we had a lot of players today that did not chase when the pressure was on. Far too many times our players were running beside GWS players minding their man instead of going at the man with the ball. And we had a few who turned it over in bad locations, even Bernie had a couple of howlers.  Oscar and Harmes look the most likely to miss next week. From all reports of the casey practice game petraca was the stand out. I think he should be coming in and give Angus another week to get a bit more form and bring Dunn back in as well. It would be nice if we had another tall able to help out Gawn,  Pederson only had 1 hitout for the game and frost none.  So we do fall apart when Maxxy is not around.

There isn't really an obvious ideal alternative to give Big M a chop out apart from Spencil who isn't available and IMO we cant afford two big fellas in at the same time. Not sure why Roos/FD use Pedo while Big M is being rested as Pedo has no impact and we usually bleed clearances when he is in the middle. Might be worth trying Frost as he has a height advantage over Pedo and Dawes (marginal) but seems to have a reasonable leap compared to those two also. Seems like the only alternative who can also play forward

Have lots of time for Dom but sorry guys from where i sat (and bro), Dom single handedly turned the momentum of the game yesterday with 3 horrendous disposals/decisions within a few minutes at one stage in the 2nd. You could see the confidence boost it gave the Greater Western Circus boys on the resulting turnovers (some in the worst part of the ground down back) shortly after and how much it deflated our blokes from what was mostly a solid performance until then.

Within a few minutes he missed a number of open targets within 20/30 meters with little/no pressure and in one instance kicked it directly to an opponent about 15/20 meters away from where his target was and he only needed to kick it about 20 meters (or slightly less) to get it to that target. You can accept multiple horrible kicks from a big ruckman or taller developing guy but not one of your higher draft mids on so many occasions.

I would think he is borderline at this point until Brayshaw becomes available or he shows a big improvement. Very slow across the ground and slow at assessing/decision making also. Not unlike Toumpas in this regard, at times allowing opposition to intercept/get to more contests he is kicking to as he tends to telecast his disposals. Nothing instinctive/smart about his footy at this point and looks VFL standard at times. I saw more instinctive/smart footy from our first gamer (Olly) in one half than Dom's entire game yesterday.

I've put up with some horrible players over the decades and Dom Tyson isn't one of them.  He made mistakes he wouldn't be proud of, but he also plays where there's the most heat.

I'll cut him some slack in the first game of the year.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
