Coaches Votes:  Melbourne v GWS
10 Jack Viney (Melb)
6 Tom McDonald (Melb)
5 Callan Ward (GWS)
4 Phil Davis (GWS)
4 Jack Watts (Melb)
1 Jesse Hogan (Melb)

No surprises.  Would like to have seen Clarry get a vote or two but I guess low game time% prevented that happening.

Interesting Davis and Hogan both get votes; albeit with Davis getting a higher rating.

Didn't know where to put this so here will do.

It bemuses me that Roos not getting much credit for the win, here on DL or in the media. As i have said his value as a game day coach in terms of communication is his capacity to motivate the players. It seems he did a brilliant job of that. Four goals down against a pretty good side and we had the belief to come out and roll them.

Also he made some excellent positional decisions and moves, something he has been criticised here on DL for not doing. Jeffy to the wing an on ball, swapping Nat Jones and Vince, moving Hogan on to the ball to get him going,  Oliver starting in the centre in the last (gutsy move) and Pederson down back. All moves that work. No doubt his assistants including Goodwin, came up with some of those idea but he still has to sift through ideas and pull the right rein.

Would love to hear David King give credit where credit is due. Who knows we might have lost thsi game if Goodwin was in charge.

Davis did a very good job on Hogan in the first 3 quarters. Deserved points for sure.

Interesting, I found that really hard to break down.  The only solution I came up with that worked:

Coach A:
5 Viney
4 Davis or Watts
3 Ward
2 McDonald
1 Davis or Watts
0 Hogan

Coach B:
5 Viney
4 McDonald
3 Davis or Watts
2 Ward
1 Hogan
0 Davis or Watts

One of the coaches didn't rate either Davis or Watts worth a vote.  I think it makes more sense for the 1 and 0 to be Davis, as I find it hard to justify saying he was better than Watts on the day.

I would think Coach A was Roos with Watts 4 and Davis 1.  Having said that Watts was the best forward on the day and spoke so highly of his performance its hard to imagine he didn't give Watts a vote.

Great post up until the last paragraph.

There is no way in hell that King is capable of making such an astute observation.

What are we expecting from Bugg this yr?? His pre season was good but I thought he was a bit down against GWS.

Harmes a bit off also but I have high hopes for him, attitude and effort normally good.

M.Jones played his role very well.

Bugg needs time to fit into the side.  GWS would have plenty of info on his game & how to negate him.

Just...saved by the bell yesterday. Relieved. It was about how we responded after looking so shot in the third. 4 goals in 7 minutes. If two bursts at each end of matches is all we need, I'll take it. Players were ecstatic and any win to open the season should do that. Very impressed with Oliver, quick hands and read the ball well and he was only on the field for 58% of the game. Kennedy was also impressive in his first game, just like having another Garlett with the capability of playing up the ground. And Viney looked like a silky outside mid at times, could show he's truly ready to dominate.

If the Bombers (somehow) start to get a hold of us hopefully the fight in us this week will translate to next week.

Enjoyed being at the game but nervous at three quarter time due to the fact that they were not only ahead in the score but had so many extra scoring shots.

One negative that I noticed today was that whenever there was a pack going for a mark, Gawn persisted in punching the ball instead of using his height to clunk the mark. It happened too often and he has shown at training that he can take these contested marks.

Was discussing the Brownlow with a mate and he suggested to me that Callan Ward would get the 3 votes from this game. I was fairly shocked, thinking Viney was locked in 100%.

Is there any possibility he could be right? Any at all?

Ward was good, Viney was better.

Both coaches gave Viney 5 votes in coaches voting.

who knows how the umps see it

Except of course it can't be 0 and 1 for Davis because that doesn't add up to 4, idiot.

Must have been tired when I posted that yesterday.

I think he'll get votes, but i'd have thought it'd be 1 vote

3. Viney

2. Mcdonald

1. Ward

This post probably doesn't belong here either but some might find it humorous.

I'm at home recovering from a hip replacement,so have read nearly every god damed post on demonland.

That game against GWS must had had an effect on me.

I had a dream--- I was on the boundary at the essendon game, the bommers were coming home with a rush.

Roos was full back and needing to kick it in.There was 7 seconds to go.I was screaming 'give him a lead' just for possession footy.

Turd was playing too.Omac finally managed to break free from Hird,Roos handballed to Omac, and Omac tried to handball back over

Hirds head, back to Roos, but the Turd intercepted and goaled.

I feel sick.

So it is a dream allowing not so veiled criticism of a 2 game player? Impressive

But it was all ok because we were up by 7 points right?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
