I am sure that players want to tackle hard to knock the stuffing out of the opponent and take them out of the contest

I am not sure any of these tackles are deliberately aimed to cause injury.

With the breakneck pace of our game I also think it is a split second thing without malicious intent and tackles go horribly wrong.

( the days of a Grinter lining up a player to elbow his front teeth out or send him into the grandstand are gone in my opinion )

Unless you name is Luke Hodge.

Telling when you consider a 4 week injury as 'luck' as the season commences.

Such has been our reality...

He should be able to maintain fitness in the pool and gym just not too much twisting and weight bearing.

This really opens up a round 1 spot for Trac and / or Oliver (silver lining to the cloud).

Pretty sure it was Hartlett later in the game who dragged Tyson backwards while he was on his knees, causing him to grab his knee & have to go off for a while. Again, a deliberate & unnecessary movement that could have caused a serious injury (or aggravated an existing one, given Tyson's history of knee injuries) by hyperflexing the knee. Have to keep a closer eye on Hartlett. As Nutbeam pointed out originally, this sort of thing doesn't get the attention that sling tackles do, but could involve just as much risk of serious injury.

you know If I remember correctly,  & I do,  that 'cleaning up' a player,  was retaliation to teach them consequences of their dirty actions.

a sort of kama.

Hartless will cop his own remedy,  I'm sure.

Correct but there are rules against driving players into the ground. I have watched it a number of times now and Hartlett jumped off the ground and into Brayshaw's back, driving him into the ground. He also pinned Brayshaw's right arm, as he took him down, with his weight on Brayshaw's back. Could easily have knocked Brayshaw out, if he landed head first, or led to a neck or collarbone injury.

I thought it was worse than the Oliver incident.

Then again I am only a whinging Dees supporter, who in the past has been outraged at a broken jaw suffered by Sylvia, off the ball and yet the Eagle player responsible walked free.

What do you expect Redleg?  Surely you realize that we are only Melbourne! You know ........ the very best of easy targets!

Exactly.  When you think about the injuries to Petracca last year and Hogan the year before, this seems like the best news possible.

Fingers crossed he can somehow be ready for Round 1.  He's done the pre-season so his fitness base should still be okay.

Damn. So no Petracca or Brayshaw for round 1?

I'm beginning to think this will be like the mythical Hogan-Clark-Dawes forward line, that never actually trained let alone played together.

I'm a Melbourne supporter so I'm expecting the worst. I've been called a pessimist, but I regard pessimists as well informed optimists.

A pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist.

we all know full well  by now that it is standard practice for the club to blatantly lie about return dates so I will suggest about round 6 in the ones.

or it could be like Frost... "At this stage, it’ll be a four-to-six week injury," Mahoney said. .... 20 weeks later he wasn't even at Casey

yeah this reminds me of the shlt i copped playing it...yo know all those silly things. Feet getting stomped... punches in the back when no one looking etc...yeah yeah yeah...all footy !!  You know what ...it isnt really.

Aww ya poor thing.
Tell that to the Dawks.
I want us to play like that.
Hartlett and Brayshaw were in a pointless bump-a-thon before the bounce.
Though I'm not convinced it was deliberate Hartlett saw an opportunity to inflict abit of pain and took it.
I'd expect our players to do the same.
I know Viney does.

Speak for yourself. It's bollocks and hyperbole to claim standard practice for the club is to blatantly lie about this. The example you gave quotes Mahoney as saying "at this stage". At that stage it may well have looked like a 426.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. 2024 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute. He is slowly fitting into the team structure but without doing anything spectacular and needs to take further steps forward in 2025 for his career to progress.
