Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Angus Brayshaw's knee injury (minor strain - 4 weeks)

I am more relaxed now. The scans are complete and waiting for the specialist to review the films but correct if I am wrong (webber - this is your area of expertise) - I would have thought the club medico's would have looked at them and if it was something season ending they would have noticed it already ? You would think that they wouldn't be filtering out the message of "minor" if the scans didn't look reasonable.

Unsurprising, there are definitely players that masquerade as the good guys of the game, but would happily down the opposition's gun players at the earliest opportunity.

Never forget Hodge on Wingard. Hasn't stopped the boys-club media from gushing over the guy at every opportunity, naturally.

the hypocrisy is that if Jack Viney does something similar we all just get stuck into saying what a legend he is

Seems a reasonable assumption to me nutbean.

Just watched it again. I didn't notice it initially but it is quite a deliberate attempt to jump on him isn't it. Crude at the least.

Very deliberate and not simply accidental. Dog act for mine

Both easy to clinically diagnose so it ain't either, although the drive of the knee into the ground is classic PCL injury mechanism. All impatient armchair speculation really, I'm sure he'll be fine with a scope and a couple of weeks on the bike ?

thanks Webber,  thats why I mentioned it,  & to pass it by pickets nose,,,  but I don't understand the techniques of diagnosis for it,  or difficulty.

Pretty sure it was Hartlett later in the game who dragged Tyson backwards while he was on his knees, causing him to grab his knee & have to go off for a while. Again, a deliberate & unnecessary movement that could have caused a serious injury (or aggravated an existing one, given Tyson's history of knee injuries) by hyperflexing the knee. Have to keep a closer eye on Hartlett. As Nutbeam pointed out originally, this sort of thing doesn't get the attention that sling tackles do, but could involve just as much risk of serious injury.

I am sure that players want to tackle hard to knock the stuffing out of the opponent and take them out of the contest

I am not sure any of these tackles are deliberately aimed to cause injury.

With the breakneck pace of our game I also think it is a split second thing without malicious intent and tackles go horribly wrong.

( the days of a Grinter lining up a player to elbow his front teeth out or send him into the grandstand are gone in my opinion )

Correct but there are rules against driving players into the ground. I have watched it a number of times now and Hartlett jumped off the ground and into Brayshaw's back, driving him into the ground. He also pinned Brayshaw's right arm, as he took him down, with his weight on Brayshaw's back. Could easily have knocked Brayshaw out, if he landed head first, or led to a neck or collarbone injury.

I thought it was worse than the Oliver incident.

Then again I am only a whinging Dees supporter, who in the past has been outraged at a broken jaw suffered by Sylvia, off the ball and yet the Eagle player responsible walked free.

agreed, it was an extremely dangerous tackle, and Brayshaw is lucky he didn't get far more seriously injured, i am baffled that it wasn't looked at, especially after Oliver's was

About as good a news as we could hope for, out for the rest of the Whogivesas*** Challenge and to be honest I would very comfortable with the club waiting until Round 2 before he returns just to make sure he's cherry ripe. The kid's a key figure in our future, if there is any lingering doubt just take it easy with him. I can picture him not being happy about that prospect though!

My thoughts exactly. I might consider it luck when Gus is actually back out on the field in 4 weeks, but till then I won't hold my breath.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
