Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I'd be stoked if between Hogan, Garlett and Dawes we get 100 goals, i see no reason Hogan and Garlett couldn't both get 50 and Dawes 25-30 if he can stay fit

That's a decent Mozz if I ever heard one. Those sorts of things can become a lead weight and expectation. Forget that crap Jessie.

Hoges doesn't worry about mozzes. The pressure on the kid just last season was immense. He responded by winning the Rising Star.

Don't mind the Hogan hype, reckon it will create a lot of opportunities for our other forwards as opposition teams get too Hogan-centric... plus put intense pressure on any defender who finds themselves one out with Jesse... as our mids pump it long. :)

Dawes will be lucky to get a game.

Harmes is already above  Dawes.

Dawes is finito.

Doesn't matter what Jesse does.  100 for him would be really great, but not if its the main focus of the club or its supporters.

What matters is what the TEAM does.  As others have alluded to, if we get 3-5 forwards / goal scorers / forward-playing mids including Jesse totalling 150-180 between them, that's a much better result in my book.

Jesse is a cog, a big one, but still just a cog in the wheel. (No offence Jesse if you see me on the street some time!)

Seriously though, it's a silly thought this 100 goals business. There's absolutely no guarantee that he's even going to play full forward - he has such a fantastic tank that it's hard not seeing him player further afield in some games. And while he's obviously going to be an important cog in our forward line set up, I think it's more important that he be part of a line up that strives to score 100 points a game on average and to keep opposing sides down to about 85. That would be a very good outcome for us IMO.

About time someone knocked Fred Fanning off his 18 goal game pedestal. May as well be Jesse

Allen Jakovich almost did it if I remember correctly.

And can anyone remind me if the Melbourne Football Club has ever had a 100 goal in a season full forward, I don't think it has.

I couldn't care less if Hogan never kicked the ton in a season. I want to see a tough and multi pronged forward line with Hogan, Petracca, Kent, Garlett and Weiderman causing trouble to every other AFL side.

ps: Buddy Franklin was the last AFL player to kick the ton in a season I believe.

Pretty sure Jako kicked over 100 in a season, it's just that it wasn't all in the seniors.  Kicked 50-odd in the reserves, then got 50-odd in the seniors in the same year.

From memory, Dunstall kicked 17 in a game.  Might be wrong, but think it was the closest haul to Fanning's record.

You are probably correct.

Jako was IMHO more of a freak player than Hogan but, I'd have Hogan any day of the week.

i don't think Jako had the desire/passion to last too long at a club (apparently very lazy).

Still at around 187cm he was a freaky full forward.

No

The only 'traditional club" that has not.

This may be controversial but for everything you have outlined above, I always rated Dunstall above Lockett. Dunstall was the most selfless full forward I have watched. Not only did he kick goals but he also brought others into the game and Hawthorn didn't solely rely on him as their only avenue to goal. I always felt that if you held Lockett you held StKilda.

I would rather Jesse kick 60 and Weideman kick 50 and Gartlett and Petracca kick 40 ( I would actually prefer Jesse kick 100 and Weideman kick 50 and Gartlett and Petracca kick 40 but I am greedy)

Just watching the YouTube highlights of his 44 goals and it made me realize that it wouldn't be a massive surprise or step up for him to double his output.

That puts him at 88 goals.

its not that many short of 100.

Add a few extra games in September...............

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
