Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pretty sure that is incorrect. Owned by a businessman named Ron Hall. Think he has lost plenty on SEN. Finey may even own a bit.

Wow. This really is a free for all. A few random comments:

  1. Andy Maher. He actually lives round the corner from me (Clifton Hill). I saw him today. I noticed that he had a Hawthorn sticker on his car, which I thought was odd for a Carlton supporter. Perhaps it was his wife's car? I can't usefully add anything to previous comments other than to say his use of the word "bunch" is pretty annoying.
  2. Dr Turf. Jonathan Rothfield? He is a VERY wealthy man. He clearly does the radio gig because he enjoys it; certainly doesn't need the money. (I can't imagine he'd be paid much anyway.) I had a chat to him at the footy once. Nice bloke. I find him very amusing. Definite keeper!!
  3. Steven J. Peake. I'm a lawyer myself. I once attended a mediation where he was representing another party. Here's the tip!! His on air persona is no act!!!
  4. Francis Leach. Happy with his return.
  5. Tim Watson. He is quite witty. I think he's more suited to radio than TV so his audience isn't subjected to his simpering grin.
  6. Mark Fine. He's a classic. He used to dish out vitriolic abuse to callers. My son likened him to Mo from the 3 Stooges. This is quite ironic because most of Mo's abuse (verbal and physical) was directed to Larry & Curly. (They were brothers, whose surname was Fine!!).
  7. Further, has Finey softened? A month or 2 Finey purported to quote Voltaire "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". Given his verbal attacks on callers, perhaps an attempt at humour?
  8. Point of order. It wasn't actually Voltaire who said that. However, in fairness to Finey, it is a fairly common misconception.
  9. Rex Hunt. He does the occasional interview with old sports stars which are played at sparrow's fart. "This Sporting Life"? Or something similar. I recall that when on 3AW he used to bag ABC radio commentators, calling them the Tobin Brothers. The sponsor of these interviews? Yep, Tobin Brothers.
  10. Hello, is anyone still reading this?

I used to occasionally listen to SEN now I'll only listen to podcasts if it's not my ipod. The vast majority of them are pathetic excuses for radio presenters though you probably won't find much better flicking around the stations. Their bread and butter is the ocker-bogan tradies and retirees and it shows. The only one that is worth listening to is Mark Fine and even then it's only on Sunday nights and can get repetitive and boring too.

How the likes of KB, Maher, Gaze, Harford and Allen remain employed is a mystery especially those who remain apologists for their respective clubs and the AFL in general. Ox is OK but as someone said above it depends on his co-host. He was good with Leach and horrible with Allen.

As far as "left wing bias" mentioned on the first page, how anyone can see a left wing bias on a dedicated sports station (and one that has hosted Andrew Bolt on more than one occasion to peddle his ignorant views at that) says far more about them and their politics than anyone on the station.

It's clear that many demonlanders dislike Sen 1116. I persevere with the station as I "hang-on" all things football. Without it I would have to listen to Dwayne Russell and Gerard Healey for my daily football fix. That is not a good thought.

Anyway Mark Fine did a great interview last week Ross Dillon, one of my all time favourties. Titled Small time footy heroes-Kyabram.

Well Theo I like SEN.

There are a couple of announcers that I am less than enthusiastic about but on the whole I enjoy listening.

Ha, ha, this brings back memories. I was also involved in a mediation where the other party was represented by Steven J. Peake, but I was the defendant. I didn't find it necessary to hire a lawyer for a dispute over a bain marie (go figure!), but the landlord I was up against did. After continually refusing to pay the initial claim ($20,000), and subsequent reduced claims thereafter, the mediator spoke to me one and one, and said that I was doing a good job, and to hold out until their claim came down to $5000. That amount was little over 2 months rent which was outstanding because the locks on the doors were changed, hence I stopped paying rent. The mediator ripped into the landlord/SJP for doing so because I'd been up to date with the rent payments, and was in the process of thoroughly cleaning the place after closing down my business.

If SJP was giving her advice throughout, she should have refused to pay his fee. The landlord lived in Sydney, and I can assure you that the agreed upon settlement definitely didn't cover her legal costs plus personal expenses.

Arthur Daley has more cred than Stephen J Peake

he has continually stated that Essendon has been treated apallingly...!

Nice work TT. I stand corrected. I now recall that there were actually 3 Howards - Moe, Curly and, from time to time, Shemp.

Andy Maher must have had the same elocution teacher as Julia Gillard. I also find his melodramatic use of the words "on this PLANET" to be a bit annoying.

I'm not sure about whomever mentioned Gaze and Maher, both seem apolitical or too stupid to make compelling political arguments either way.

But Francis Leach is undoubtedly left wing. Probably why he keeps running back to the ABC every few years. As long as he keeps his politics mostly to himself when not related to the topic as well as dimming down his arrogance and St Kilda love he's a good host.

Thank you old Dee! I missed this and having grown up in Ky, loved hearing from Gus Underwood, in particular.

Ky was part of the melbourne recruiting zone, back in the day, although gaining supporter traction wasn't easy with the club colours being black and red.

Some great champions for the Dee's out of that town. Thanks for the reminder and yes, good interview.

I have tried to listen to SEN  on the odd occasion. It takes a lot of effort to listen to them ( even Ox ) giggling at their own rubbish jokes, talking MFC down  or introducing some C grade guest in the most obsequious and sycophantic way possible. Harford is the worst in this regard. I would rather be strapped to a chair, have my eyelids prised open with toothpicks and be forced to watch French Lieutenant's Woman on continuous loop for a week than listen to SEN intentionally for 5 minutes.

Just to clarify some misconceptions. SEN is wholly owned by Pacific Star Network which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (listed as PNW). PNW also owns a second radio licence which is the "old" 3MP and now trades as 1377 MyMP. PNW also has a publishing arm which most notably publishes Inside Football (print and digital versions).

Ron Hall is the largest shareholder and a Director. Gary Pert (yes, the ex-player and Collingwood CEO) is also a Director.

Here's the PNW website where you can find out more.

He's not a comedian. So I'm not sure why he has been referred to as one.

He's an old time FM host.

3XY is where he's most famously hosted, used to listen to Rocktober et al back in the day. Definitely not a comedian,

not sure where people are getting that from. Also writes a column in one of our local Inner West newspapers about local sport.

Yeah, he knows his music/bands. Mixes it well with Rohan Connolly as they cast their minds back to the 70's/80's when they're on together.

He was on Fox years ago and Triple M. Almost certain he used to help out hosting with the Grill Team years ago when they first come on the scene. He may have ended up on Gold at one point.

Hosted many events with the Bulldogs (think he's a Bulldog) and various VFL/Western region Football Clubs social events.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
