Overall set us back years.

Scully, Gysberts, Tapscott and Fitzpatrick gone.

Trengove injured last 2 years

Gawn finally established himself after a couple of ACL's.

Missed out on Martin, Fyfe from first 20 picks when we had 4 picks.

Unluckly on injured players, Scully enough said, 11 and 18 killed us.

Lol i remember saying that in 6 years time we'll win a premiership with Trengove, Scully, Tapscott and Gysberts in it... yuk..

And last year was the 2014 draft -

Brayshaw

Petracca

Stretch

ANB

O Mac

White and

vandenBerg

Let's talk about this one

None of those players have reached their full potential and that draft is already a win.

Damn that's a nice list.

After year one we were all pretty happy with Scully & Trengove, Gysberts had shown he could win a lot of the ball at AFL level and most were very optimistic about Tapscott. Gawn had also earned a senior appearance and held his own. The fact that the players all stagnated or went backwards is the depressing thing.

I'll show myself out now.

I think we would have looked at this draft in a vastly different way had they been drafted say 2 years ago under Roos and no pressure been put on them,

i don't rate Scully but i think he's still be in our 22 and Trengove i think could still be an A grader if he gets his body right.

Trengove was the right pick at pick 2

Cant help injuries, the kid was well on the way to stardom after his second season

Jim Carrey certainly makes for great gif material.

I knew we butchered a couple of drafts around this time, but I had forgotten we had 4 picks inside the top 20!!! Hopefully Gawn continues and Trengove gets back so we can at least salvage something.

Still have alot of faith Trenners will be back, and will shut alot of doubters up in 2016, he's as good a young player as we have and fully fit, look out.

i keep deliberately putting the fear of god in my carlton-supporting mates, equating their 2015 draft haul with our 2009 collection.

i personally doubt that trenners can make it back personally due to the sheer amount of football he's missed, which is a damn shame, so gawn is the only 'winner' here.

i really thought the gys was going to be something special.

It's true that our previous recruiting teams have had some shockers and we are now beginning to see how good recruiters do it. People forget that before injury Trengove was definitely a plus. Gawn is a 209 cm ruck man who's is now beginning to be very effective . You can't predict injury. I agree that we would probably not pick a 'Gysberts' type under the new regime, but Tapscott appeared to all of us to tick all of the boxes - tough, big body, good kick etc. Unfortunately he just wasn't that good. He couldn't find the footy enough.

Geelong and hawthorn have obviously led the way in recruiting techniques and they have been models for the other teams. Our mob seem to be doing alright atm.

Scully had the same appeal as Parish. He ran all day and got the footy a lot. This is another reason I'm kind of happy we went with Oliver instead. Scully wasn't big enough to impose himself in the middle and I'm not sure if Parish will be. I think he is a cut above Sully though.

Scully got us Hogan.

It was a great draft

No, Sheedy got us Hogan, with his greed and revenge, on the club that overlooked him.

Tough footballers win premierships.

The best teams of the modern era Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn have all had a staple of tough footballers.

Barassi, Whitten & Matthews are widely regarded as the best to have played the game do you notice a pattern? Abblett senior went toe to toe with Lester Ellis and gave as good as he got.

It is not rocket science.

Yeah but we waited an extra 4 years for the pick in that time continually lost and went broke again there was no winners in the Scully deal except the AFL

Given the trade value we got for Scully, the apparent emergence of Gawn as a premium quality ruck, and the impending [most glorious and illustrious] return of Trengove, in the end it might not be so bad.

But I'm not sure there's much merit in raking over these old bones.

I agree, but there are some people who just can't resist wallowing in the past.

The past has passed; the future is ahead.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
