Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

NATIONAL DRAFT PICKS 3 & 7

Great deal, considering our first rounder in 2016 should be pick 18. Go MFC!

Well at last next year we will be a possibility for Top 8, once we get these low draft picks on the paddock alongside Petracca, Trengrove, et al.

So the twitter talk from 'the insiders (Andersen, Twoomey, Qyale) are all saying that it is down to three: Parish, Weiderman, or Curnow. They are saying that Parish is leading but dont be surprised. Parish wont be available at 10 but the other two might have been. So considering that 10 came out of nowhere, I assume Parish is the number 1 target.

Parish

Weiderman

Curnow

Anyone still think we got screwed on Howe? We plugged pick 29 directly in to a trade we were going to use Howe in. That was his market value.

Anyone also still care that we used 25 instead of 29 for Melksham?

Anyone still reckon they'd do a better job than the amateurs at the club at the moment?

I'm feeling so smug right now. Hehe.

The only reason I would prefer that we use 29 instead of 25 for Melksham is I would rather give the 25 to GC instead of Essendon!

Nobody disagreed that if we leveraged pick 29 to get another deal done, that's ok. But also, nobody can say that this is a good or bad deal. When you're talking about draft picks, only time will tell.

what picks do we have now in total

Melbourne will now take picks 3, 10 and 43 into the national draft, while they also secured Jake Melksham (Essendon) and Ben Kennedy (Collingwood) in this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.
The Dees have lost Howe to the Pies and Jimmy Toumpas to Port Adelaide.
I believe we started with 6, 25, 43
so it's
OUT: Howe, Toumpas, 6, 25
IN: Kennedy, Melksham, 3, 10
yeah?

it all depends on where you think we will finish next year.

We may have given up a pick 6, 9 and 29 for 3,10, 44

If we have another bad year we could be giving up a pick 6, 2 and 29.

it also depends on how pick 3 and 10 turn out over the next 2 years. drafting school kids is still a bit of a raffle

just saying

What I like about the deal is that we are confident about where we will end up next year and that we think we can get 2 good players this year, it sends a positive message.

However the trade debt situation is one that concerns me a little, mainly out of my ignorance of next years crop and how it may affect our ability to attract an A grade player (or Prestia).

That said the club through Mahony articulated its plan and has got it done (other than Prestia). We are clearly going for youth and backing our ability to pick the right types (which we clearly did last year).

Could still trade a player or two second rounders for a first rounder or 2017 first rounder for Prestia next year.

Interesting deal & it's great that the club could still get pick 3 even though the Howe trade didn't go as planned.

Doesn't look like we have any chance of trading for an A-grade player such as Prestia next year, but perhaps the club has decided that they will draft the A-Grade talent in rather than trade for it. Seeing as they have struggled to attract a big name trade they're probably doing the best they can with what they have. That is of course unless they have lined up pick 3 & 10 as part of another trade which seems unlikely.

Good trade and makes a few of the usual "Sky is falling, Whoa is me" Demonlanders look very silly for going early as usual

Said it many times in the last year or so, the fact our club no longer leaks doesn't mean we aren't doing things in the background

Who knows trade period isn't over yet, but happy to recruit a few this year, the draft has been talked about as shallow after the first dozen so will trust the FD to get the picks right as they have done since taking over

We arent sitting on our hands and hoping to win 'a few more games'.

We are backing ourselves to have a real crack at the top 8.

When is the last time we did that?

Well done MFC.

Disagree, we can tell now that this is a good or bad deal, I think good. In a few years we will be able to tell if our recruiting staff were good with using the picks gained. The success of the players we draft is a reflection on the draft recruitment, not the trading we do.

I'd like to think that Prestia will want to come to us next year, and guess what, we for once won't have the draft picks available and be screwed paying overs for a player.. So instead we pay unders possibly :)

So next year we trade our second round pick (2016) and our first round (2017) pick for prestia. Gold coast mightn't be happy about it, but they know prestia might come to us so its there own fault for doing this deal.. Now lets wait a year and see.

Go Dees!

So at this stage, Parish is looking likely at pick 3. Any ideas towards who pick 10 is intended for?

I think pick 3 looks like Parish. I wonder who will be in our sights at pick 10?

Riley Bonner.

In 3-5 years everyone will be saying he should have gone at 1.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see picks 43, 46 & 50 go to Syd/Bris/GWS for an earlier pick.

Possibly a pick in the 20s & Bugg?

Can't recall how many list spots need to be filled, but I'm expecting us to upgrade both Vandenberg & Harmes, so we may not even use all 3 of those picks.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
