At the moment he's got the Liam Jurrah trait of turning what should be 5 or 6 goal games into 2 or 3 goal games. He is coming along nicely though. He's a big bag away from truly believing in himself. Yes @Whispering_Jack it would be superb if he broke out against the 'Pies next week.

@dazzledavey36 I agree that Goodwin leaving him out early in the season was to the detriment of our team & structure. But it might just turn out to be the making of The Weed

I'm happy to admit I was wrong with my assessment of Weid.

I don't rate the final against Geelong where the ball kept falling into his lap.

The last week, however, has proved he can take one grab, overhead marks, and he normally slots them.

North really should’ve been a bag for Sam, he had plenty of chances and I feel after he missed a couple he lost a little confidence. But he’s definitely coming into his own with having the responsibility of being our main target. 

The kicking is between the ears, his routine actually looks quite straight forward and fluid. 

Agree. He kicked 2.3 and should have nailed at least 5 goals.  He played a good game but with the amount of footy coming inside 50, he gets plenty of opportunity.  At least he didn’t get caught under the ball so much as in prior years.
 

Big game v Pies.  Likely Darcy Moore or Roughead, both of whom are having very good years and it’s a challenge for Weid this week. We need him this year to really be our key target.   

I love how nonchalant he is. It gives the impression that he recognises goals are created by a team effort, he just gets to kick them. 

On AVE scoring shots per game he is about 5th in the AFL right now,  and equal 7th for goals per game. 

If he keeps those averages up he'll comfortably finish top 10 in the comp, and with improved accuracy could push the top 5.

Weid has moved into 'good' full forward territory, whether he'll take the next leap and become very good, or great is the question...!

Definitely reminds me of the Tom Hawkins rate And style of development.

If we can get a similar career out of Sam we will be with Jackson etc a hard side to

nest fir a while with our midfield getting stronger  by the match.

Lockhart Rivers Jacko Kossie Sparrow Charlie Spargo (back on track ) Fritsch and Jordan  Petty  and Bedford are 10 very promising players to germ the nucleus to back up our A and B graders A already  performing well.

Need to have a better game plan and more mental and physical toughness but that should come over this year and 2021.

Key forward and another outside runner would help sort of complete a very good list.

Only a kid but Imliked his man on man tricks yesterday That  will give him more confidence as well as contested marks which he clunked a couple

I've been a vocal supporter of his on here over the years. I really like the way he attacks the ball in the air and I think he straightens us up structurally. The coaching staff made a mistake not playing him earlier this year/periods of last year when uninjured. He's a 40-60 goal a year forward in his current FF position and state of development at less than 40 games. Even if he doesn't improve from here, he'll be top 10 in the Coleman every year until he retires.

I was big on playing him at FF and having TMac as a lead up CHF. No more throwing him all over the ground and stuffing up his development, just leave him up forward to do what he does best at FF. I think this has been proven as the right positional setup now, though not sure TMac will necessarily be the CHF, might be Jackson or someone else.

Weid is a bit of a confidence player with his kicking, but his actual kicking action is beautiful, amongst the best at the club. I'm not concerned with him missing a few considering he's still kicking 2-3 goals every match and setting up a few too. I'd love to see him have continuity with his body and just stay at FF now. We lost Hogan, but Weids current goal output replaces him and solves a big problem for us.

I thought he was a pretty good kick , he will get better with more confidence.

He is a beautiful kick, just got a bit of the yips at the mo...

Weid has always had the marking, it's always been his big weapon but i think it's only probably been the last 6 weeks or so that he's really started to understand how hard a key forward has to work in the modern game. 

last night he outworked Robbie Tarrant at times, and that's something not many people do. 

really pleased for him, he's a lovely guy.

Spot on - I'm wrapped with how he's been playing since being brought back... but from all reports he was not looking likely through the pre-season with TMac, Brown and Jackson all showing more.  He's had to earn it and he is doing everything right now (aside from missing a few set shots)

That's because he was played in the ruck through the preseason, he should've been played at full forward trying to develop his game.

P.S. his workrate today was fantastic. Hit up lead after lead and doubled back when the pass didnt come his way.

I think it's the result of the facial injury he sustained last year and is a kind of bruising that never goes away. A mate of mine was set on by two thugs outside a pub and suffered a fractured cheek bone and lower part of the eye socket. 10yrs later he still sports a 'mouse' under that eye. If you look closely at Mitch Hannan in an interview he has one also. I've also known of others and the use of makeup to try and hide it.

Hopefully one of the Medicos on here could add more.

He is averaging 2.0 goals per game (7th best in league). He has missed a few doddles in last few games, but he is presenting well, making contests bringing ball to ground. He is becoming a good forward. He is a good kick, so that will be corrected soon.

Has Weideman shown he was worthy of a top 10 draft pick? 

As with most key position players or ruckman, it might take an extra year. After the end of 2018, we thought he was ready to go boom. But the consistency is not there yet. 
 

In 2021, I think maybe Sam Weideman is ready to really show us his capabilities.  I want him to develop more intensity. More mongrel at the footy and second efforts. With Ben Brown in at FF, Weideman now should get the run at CHF.  He will use his endurance to run and use the space.  I think it might suit him more.  We just need to tell him that he is now a man and can use his physical ability more. Fingers crossed. 

Think he was very good this year and has caught up with the pack of KPFs from his draft year.  

Was surprised by his speed and agility more than anything this year.  In past years he seemed to have lumbered around a bit, but he looked more relaxed and loose when moving this year.

He still gets to the right spots and once those ones he get his mitts to start to stick, watch out!

Far from a bust imv. I think he’s been a victim of forward line malfunction and rubbish delivery over the past couple of years. Once selected and partnered with LJ this season he took his marks and kicked his goals and other than the Hawthorn match kicked pretty straight. As soon as LJ got injured he struggled.

Another pre-season under his belt, taking the 2^nd defender and adding some mongrel to his game I predict about 40 goals this year. No slack efforts allowed as TMac is waiting in the wings to take his spot.

I can’t wait to see him and BB in tandem this season. It’s critical to our success that their partnership is productive.

Forward line malfunction in my opinion  doesn't stop him taking marks when presented,

tackling and using his body to put pressure on.

Needs a big season or he should be traded to the Pies. There is something wrong with his aggression levels or self-belief.

Chris could not take a mark above his head to save his life, it was a chest or drop.
