AFL Round 13 - they're all non MFC Games

Well, no, he's got a bone to pick with Hird, so he's more than a little biased in all of this. He's loving being able to stick the dagger into Hird.

no they don't.

And you'd know that they don't.

So you are lying. I'm sure you are not ignorant. That leaves lying as the only alternative.Just baffled as to why.

Many players do exactly what Goodes does onfield (boomer harvey for one) and NEVER get booed. You can point to dozens of sneaky snipers, precious umpire pets, or self-important tools and the truth is that they don't get booed at games or across games. It is a shocking argument - it is not even an argument, it is just a shameful rationalisation - a defence - of racist behaviour. It is gutless and horrid and should be rejected out of hand.

This is so clearly a racial issue. Those that deny it (and I mean all if you) cannot all be ignorant to the sort of social psych pressures that lead to racist behaviour, cannot be ignorant to the 'cultural' racism inherent in white australia and the growing tolerance for racist attitudes over the last 10 years. It is utterly implausible. Actually, when you add up all those effects, the null hypothesis is that booing is racist it becomes your job to disprove it. All the forces at work make racist motivations the most likely state. Your job is to prove it isn't. And you can't.

Lot's of players are unpleasant or easy to dislike. They don't get booed. Goodes does. Join the dots and man up the lot of you.

That is the most horrific and saddening lack of logic I've ever had the misfortune to read. It is NEVER someone's responsibility to prove they're NOT racist. To think otherwise is just insane.

What you've just done here is co-opted millenia of prejudice in an effort to win an argument by requiring a standard of proof so high that even you've admitted it can't be reached. The null hypothesis is obviously that you want to be the "right" one battling on the side of good against the "bad guys." I don't boo Goodes, by the way. I'd boo you though.

No hirdy, it's because of you!

No ,he said Mitchell was "naive".

Like engaging in a 34 man drug binge and expecting to get away with it.

Poor Jim.

Looks like the pretenders beat the pretenders tonight...

I'm wondering whether WC are the biggest pretender!

They sit 2nd on the ladder with 153.5% which suggests they are hot.

However, they have played only 3 of the current top 8 and lost 2 of those 3: Freo, WB.

So how good are they really?

Gee, can't help think that if we bring our A game we will beat them next week!

We will find out next week. Big job for the backline. Jetts to LeCras, Tommy Mc to Kennedy and Dunn to Darling potentially. The midfield battle will be intriguing as well.

Classic propaganda technique, not unlike the way the extremely right-wing Fox News continually call themselves "fair and balanced" while attacking all other media for being lefties. It's their way of pushing the idea of 'neutrality' further in their direction.

Basically an attempt to paint the ridiculously pro-Essendon media as "neutral". Pathetic and the all-too-predictable next step for Hird's ilk to keep public perception in his favour. I think that's well and truly a lost cause. The only people against the WADA appeal now appear to be Essendon supporters.

Oh so just like the ABC but on the far left?

Don't want to de-rail the thread, so this is the last i'll post on this point. But the ABC are an independent broadcaster. Fox News owned and run by Rupert Murdoch, the same guy who controls Herald Sun, the Essendon FC apologists. Just saying.

It can, but not Murdoch's empire. Prime example is the Iraq war which divided opinion throughout the west. But every one of Murdoch's 'independent' papers supported it. What a coincidence.

Please GC, don't let Carltank get another win.

Would love to see them go back into turmoil with a loss today against a team with their entire midfield out!

Gold Coast are absolutely pathetic, but they are missing their four best mids, their ruckman and now Dixon. Carlton will struggle to beat anyone else on this performance. Under very little pressure, their skills are as bad as ours were two years ago. Cripps is the only gun kid. The rest are ordinary and I'm loving it.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
