Not just the validity, more the chinese-whispers nature of it. I would imagine that every player on every list in the AFL (of any quality) gets discussed in trades, every year. Even when on long term contracts, if they're good enough, their management and the clubs' management would be remiss NOT to discuss them, even years before they might become available for a trade.

In all likelihood, in one of these phone calls (of which there will likely be hundreds over Jesse's career) the club said that the price on Jesse's head is something ridiculous like 2 first rounders and an All Australian player. After that, it gets around that the demons are "shopping" him, despite the fact they tried to place a price on his head no club would agree to. Then after that, the rumours start on internet chatrooms, and the details get lost.

Noone should target Beetle for raising the point, but the onus is on us to treat it as what it is. A rumour sometimes is just a rumour.

Well done Jesse - we love you and look forward to many years kicking multiple goals and assisting Demon teammates kick many more. 

Only IF he was desperate to get back to WA. 

He's looking quite happy at present and hopefully will continue to do so. The extra tall's seem to work well ttogether, with the athleticism they all posses.

On The Couch had a running poll all year where they’d ask each guest if they preferred Stringer or Hogan.

funnily enough, you could argue hogan has become the sort of player stringer was - capable of getting up and down the ground, playing thru the midfield, impacting the scoreboard, bringing his teammates into the play, taking great contested grabs, and generally dominating as a modern day forward

Nearest the pin, how many goals will Jesse end up kicking in 2018? Currently on 26 goals in 10 games.

I'm going with 71....  reckon he will kick a a few big bags in the back half of the season.  Thats just for the home and away season , if we play finals (which its looking like we will)  he could give 80 a crack.

71 goals and if he continues to average 20 disposals that’s one hell of a season.

There were plenty of wise heads on this forum in the early years who said this was how it would pan out, in that if we could convince him to stay in the early years he’d eventually grow out of the idea of returning to Perth. A strong bond with his teammates, a Victorian girlfriend, a club that has actively supported him during his more homesick periods and a bit of team success would (and has) created a sense of home in Melbourne. In my opinion the risk of him going has now completely evaporated.

It may resurface when he’s a 30 year old, 200 game player looking to transition his life and spend his last contract at “home”, but by then with 3 flags and 2 Brownlows to his name, I’ll happy wave him goodbye with thanks, knowing he was a loyal Demon when it mattered.

Wait a minute... what about forwards who cover more ground than most mids, averages 20 plus possessions, takes bundles of marks all over the ground and kicks 2-3 goals a game?

The bloody niggling media - anything for a story that increases circulation and advertising revenue. Perth may well be a wonderful place for Jesse to holiday, chill out, muck about. Fantastic for him. Melbourne is a great place for him to work, train, develop, get rich and plan for the non-football days that will come in just over a decade. We, the people of the east, love him for what he has done and what he is doing, and will do in the future, in Melbourne, with Melbourne and one day, as the captain of Melbourne. Hang cool, Jesse, you are doing fine. I like the way you do not even respond to these journalistic suppositions.

After watching the game live I thought Gus was clear BOG but having watched the replay, Hogans game was enormous. The ground he covers is remarkable, almost Riewoldt like already and he must be an absolute nightmare to match up against for the opposition.

He`s in rare form and will only improve.

Not sure but some days it is evident. I think it may be related to a consistent lack of follow-through, but his field kicking is doing just fine at the moment so it is all a conundrum, of sorts. His scoring rate is great, too.

How will 80 rank among our major goalkickers since the golden age of FFs?

Neita kicked 82-ish when he won the Coleman...

Holy smokes just looked... Going backwards from 2017...

42, 41, 44, 20, 28, 29, 40, 55, 29, 26, 42, 68, 73, 69, 65 and in 2002 Neitz won it with 82. Best before that was Bennett with 87 in 1990... then before that no-one has kicked more than 80 other than Fanning in 1947 (97), and 1944 (87)... and Norm 3 times in the 40s.
