This is the same AFL that allow Tomd Boyd just get up and leave GWS after one year.

If Hogan leaves no one will stop him. I wasn't having a crack at you HH but unfortunately this is the reality.

Yah i know what you meant, all good.

Doesn't matter how bad it will look if Melbourne finally after a years of trying are able draft and develop a legit young superstar and he then walks to a top 4 club, the AFL wont give a stuff

The system is broken

Melbourne..? You mean South Australia?

I got the locations incorrect but it was a constant rumour every time he was out of contract.

Would rather have a target down forward with an unusual kicking style than have no target down their with a nice kicking style.

That is all.

As people here have heard before my best friend gets along pretty well with Jesse and I sent her off a text to ask the question.

This is media crap, Jesse does miss his family, no question but he wants to help this club, the young core group are particularly close and roosy and bmac have spoken to them about how Geelong and Sydney pledged to do it together,

Jesse did recently sign an extension and from what I've been told I am 100% confident he wants to be a demon long term, make no mistake though if we aren't playing finals when he comes out of contract he will almost certainly leave.

But I'd like to say on the rumours if this did happen the dees would demand Nat Fyfe or lachie Neale and matt tabbenar or something insane in return and rightly so

Thanks.

I've said it all along, though. Get him a nice girlfriend from Melbourne, play some good footy as a team, a big pile of cash and a few extra years of maturity up his sleeve, it'll be amazing how much less he'll feel like going home by the time he's 25. Melbourne will be home.

For mine, the contract extension just gone was the danger one (when he's still young and unsettled). That he signed that one, and early, is a fantastic sign for me.

Get rid of the "BUT."

He's played three games and is looking great.

Near or at the top in the league in contested possessions, 6 goals, crashes packs, presents well and loves the contest.

No buts.

When the heck does he come out of contract then?!

His field kicking is exceptional for a young key tall. It's not his technique that's the trouble.

The run-up and set shot kicking will improve as he gains more confidence

Early in the game on Saturday he took a contested mark on the wing. His subsequent kick was a far more fluid style than that which he uses when having a set shot. If they go through its not an issue, he missed a sitter on the weekend and has had another miskick in each of the last two games having a shot from outside 50. Not an issue yet but something to keep an eye on.

Will still be a gun though so happy he's in red and blue.

True, but imagine if he was kicking at over 50% efficiency. I'm sure he will get it up there eventually... I just found it funny that everyone focuses their vitriol on Watts.

One is a skill error, the other is a lack of intestinal fortitude.

he'll fix his kicking action. I just want him to be able to nail goals from 50m. Not sure he can kick that far. had a shot from 45 a while ago and sprayed it bad. Early days so no big deal but geez it would be nice to see him smash one from outside 50m. love this kid.

I would be extremely surprised if he can't kick 50m he's a 6'4" key forward not Tony Shaw.

Tony Lockett had range problems. 40 metres out was are far he could kick. Compensated by his accuracy though. Hogan should look at some old clips of Lockett.

His point to get Sydney into the 96 grand final after the siren was kicked outside 50 and he cleared the fence. I just want to have confidence that Hogan can make the distance when he marks from around the 50m line because many forwards have to find the ball out there too. I'm not concerned about his accuracy to be honest I think his skills are fine just maybe that he doesn't have great lenght to his kicks.

Either way, it's certainly not Hogan who needs to fix parts of his game, he is the most talented player on our list already. I'm more concerned about Tysons foot skills, Salems ball winning, Toumpas speed, Dawes hands or Watts intensity than any question marks over Hogan. Could not have asked for a better start from him.

Nick Reiwold, Travis Cloke and Luke Breust are current big goal kickers who had horrendous patches in their careers where they could not hit the side of a barn at any distance. FFS he's only played three games.

Particularly Cloke. He misses so many sitters.

And he's he's been trying to fix it for years, at the club withe the best resources, to no avail.

All we need now is for someone to start a poll on how many goals he'll kick against Richmond.

I'm pretty confident we'll see a 6-goal haul at some point this season.

Are you for real? You're arguing with yourself sue. I don't GAF if he has nerves or kicked truely at Casey. The thread is about Jessie's kicking action and could it be improved to help him kick more goals in the future for our club. His kicking results don't currently worry me, as he only played 3 games and is just getting used to the game at AFL level, but I'd like to see him improve his action at some point over the next 18 mths.

FMD your case is based upon Jessie "certainly" having nerves affecting his kicking and that Kennedy is yet to prove himself with his non stutter run up (10 goals!). Glad your not my lawyer.

I am very much for real and have no desire to FYD at all.

First the thread is about why he misses goals. It is not confined to his kicking action as you state. It may well be that is a problem, I don't know.

I just raise the simple logical question: IF what he does works OK in the VFL, what is different in the AFL? As far as I recall the goals are the same width in both leagues.

But given you replies to date, I can see you will never answer that question. A coach might ponder it however. I'd respect your position more if you simply said the posters saying he kicked OK in the VFL were wrong.

Surprised nobody's mentioned what Scoop McClure said about Hogan tonight on 3aw.

Basically said that someone overheard him say he wants to return to Perth at some stage.

This club must not under any circumstance lose this player.

When was the last time he got something right?

Also, if I was a journalist trying to generate a bit of click bait this is exactly the kind thing I would say.

Have we Dee supporters been downtrodden for that long that we are questioning the technique of a 3 game player!

Sheesh!!

The following key forwards are getting specialised coaching:

Lloyd - Daniher

Rocca - Casboult

A psychologist - Cloke

??? - Kennedy (WC)

Carey - Carlisle (2014)

Some seasoned campaigners there, including a premiership FF.

Clearly goal kicking is an evolving technique/skill! Roos said this week how underestimated goal kicking is.

He will get the right support for Hogan when he thinks it is the right time.

In the meantime, just let the kid play, stay injury free and enjoy himself for a while.

GEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT DUUUUUNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

For now just want Jessie to have some fun and get used to AFL footy.

For all we know Roos et al may be happy with Hogan's kicking technique.

If needed, YES, Dunstall would be ideal: similar build, similar style.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
