He's the first player since Watts who already has the "number one draft pick" tag. No other number one picks in recent years have this tag. It must be a key forward thing.

or a 'pick on the carp clubs' thing

There is never an excuse for the team to play badly

Pity others have thought differently for so long.

What a stupid naive statement to make.

There are valid proven reasons why there are clubs consistently at the top end of the league and valid proven reasons why there are clubs consistently at the bottom end of the league.

Interestingly there is also a proven path on how you can change from a bottom club to a top club. But many people dont handle change easily.

What a terrible game of football. On this form we should beat COLLINGWOOD once Queen's Birthday rolls around. They're a very young side across the park now and without looking at all the numbers I think we'd have more established players than them.

Totally disagree. They'll touch us up both times.

Collingwood are going to be the flat track bullies of 2015.

They'll beat up on the rubbish sides and be found wanting against the good sides (like Adelaide last week)

They'll be licking their lips when they play us as they'll know they be able to get an easy kill against inferior opposition.

They'll finish an irrelevant 10th-12th this year.

Collingwood....the new West Coast?

It will be interesting! Bucks in his post game has mentioned 'development' a few times and without the whole club really committing to that they are clearly in that phase with their list the way it is. Maybe it's more out of hope than anything but we should be beating them this year - both young teams. If we rock up and play four quarters, based on our improved ball movement - I think we'll win.

McCartin should buy Watts a beer. As should Patton, Boyd, Whitfield and probably a few others.

Watts came in on the back of quite a few gun mids - Deledio and Murphy mainly who had great debut seasons. Plus Cooney, Goddard and Hodge were all looking the goods by then so people forgot their early career struggles. As well as Riewoldt who set the bar for key forwards. And Kreuzer who did really well for a young ruck.

Since Watts there's only been Scully who dominated in the first year. The rest - Swallow, Patton, Whitfield and Boyd have all taken time to find their feet.

Now McCartin gets the respectful treatment.

I think we are stupid if we jump on his grave. Good luck to the young fella. He showed enough to suggest he'll be a good player tonight.

I hate to see any young player with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Let them enjoy the experience first before burdening them with too much responsibility.

Watts is always mentioned in these conversations but I actually think the Toump has had a rougher deal

Nobody has had it worse then Watts.. you could be forgiven for thinking his first name is 'maligned' because every hack commentator and journo prefaces their comments about him with that word.. it still goes on now even though he is in his 7th season

The old Al's Imerz must be getting to me but I don't remember Scully dominating in his first year.

This looks like a fairly terrible crowd for a Friday night game with Collingwood and another Victorian team.

Collingwood supporters are fickle, if they think they are a chance of losing they don't show up.

Think the end of last season where they had very poor turnouts.

We can only dream of such as irrelevant ladder position. Maybe next year

Last night was Collingwoods first 100+ score since May 30th (round 11) last year!! Also against St Kilda......... Be sure to inform a filth supporter of this fact next time one corners you......

Can see why the MFC put in a bid on Heeney with a top 3 pick

Absolute joke the Swans were gifted him for pick 20 or whatever it was

The pro-Bummer fapping in the media and especially on TV is unbearable and frankly embarrassing by those doing it. Even worse is Tim Watson commentates their games, and today none of the others in the box would say anything less than fawning about the Bummer players.

I thought a similar thing during our game. How can they have Mark Ricciuto calling the game when he has a clear conflict of interest. What's worse is that the other commentators took on an Adelaide-centric approach to calling the game due to his presence in the box.

GWS aren't doing too badly against Sydney. I'm feeling a bit better about last week's disaster.

seriously, who would have predicted Brisbane still being [censored] this year?

Everyone though their additions of Beams, Christensen and Robinson would lift them above that middle pack.

They still have zero tall forwards and zero tall backmen. Until they fix this they will continue to struggle as their gun midfield have nothing to kick it to.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
