Actually really don't care about this award. Hogan hasn't played one bad game yet, and every week he continues to show more of his ability. He will destroy a team this year, personally I hope it's against Collingwood. He did seem to like the big stage against Richmond, the pies will try to rough him up I think it'll just spure him on.

Spot on. In other years I would desperately hope for a nomination. With Hogan I don't care. We know he is special nomination or not.

Nothing's been announced, but given our track record with rising star nominations, could care less if Hogan remains unrecognised. It just gives him ammunition to prove everyone wrong.

Clubs keep that information very close to their chests apparently, to mask potential injuries or poor form.

Fair enough...I would love to see how many km's Hogan covered compared to McCarthy..

I didn't see the GWS game but I think Hogan would of been way in front and how many contests Hogan was involved in bringing the ball to ground, I would say of the top of my head his direct opponent beat him a maximum of 2 times, it's a shame that these sort of things aren't considered when nominating a player....

Pretty big joke. That guy's performed well all year but this was clearly Hogan's week. Plenty of young forwards can cherry pick 3-4 goals when their teams' clicking but not many can pull the strings and dominate the way Hogan did

I have no issue with McCarthy getting nominated. He's had a great year, and probably could have been nominated three or four times by now.

The problem is the practice of nominating average players who have one very good game (eg McIntosh, Honeychurch, Gregson, Hartung) over players like McCarthy and Hogan who have made a solid contribution every week. Plus the fact that it is much more difficult to play key position or ruck as a young player, than it is to get cheap kicks on the flanks. Ten possessions by McCarthy and Hogan in their positions equate to about forty possessions by McIntosh.

The nominations don't allow for a good player to be awarded if he is not nominated.

History shows that if you are not nominated before round 8 you have buckley's of winning (only 3 have won outside that). Getting nominated in rd 22 is almost impossible to win.

It USED (original concept) to be an award that awarded a player who was going to be a bona fide star. Now it is simply a 'best first year player' award with number of games and consistency etc being the major factors.

Its a crap award and I am happy if no melbourne player get nominated. Our history of it isn't great (Gysberts nominated twice, Morton etc etc) It simply means their contract value goes up, they think they have made it as a football player potentially and other clubs start sniffing around to get them. No benefit whatsoever to the club.

Well, I would classify that as a being a borderline conspiracy theory given that GWS are creating their own well deserved media exposure with their performances of late... your average Sydney-sider would not have a clue what the Rising Star award is, let alone care.

I normally just go by the AFL app and who scores more AF points as per who gets it and it seems to be fairly accurate in the past. But hogan had 103, and McCarthy had 80, which was quite a discrepancy this time. I sort of hope hogan doesn't get nominated but to clearly be the best player ever to not get nominated in there first year !

I really wonder if it does matter when they get nominated. I would have thought that in the final judging, they will look back on each nominees whole season and draw a conclusion from the consistency of their performances.

The evidence of anti Melbourne sentiment is not fiction in my opinion and not just on this subject but on others.

Take umpiring, media exposure and comparable game allocation times.

But I thought I had two Blue Eyes, actually one is Red at the moment for some reason...
