Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Tyson is too good to be a "break out" he broke out last year. He already is a star and will enhance his star status further this year.

Look at the list none of those players have done anything yet while Tyson finished 2nd in the B&F last year.

Ask a supporter of another club if Tyson is a 'star' . You will get laughed at. He's certainly a promising kid but he has a long way to go

So what? How long have the underrated N.Jones? He averaged 24 disposals with no preseason and finished 2nd in the B&F. What does he have to do? average 40 disposals and win the B&F?

We have 2 stars Tyson is one of them, N.Jones is the other IMO, they can laugh at me all they want.

Do it consistently, and improve his kicking.

He is a bloody good footballer, and one of our best, but he ain't a star. (Yet)

That word is thrown around too much anyway.

No one is saying he is a 'star' yet - just that he looks likely to be one in the future.

11 Brownlow votes last year. The best of his draft. Signs, objectively, look good.

And since when has 'getting laughed at' by opposition supporters been the barometer of the accuracy of a fact or clear thinking.

Looking at the form this pre-season, I think Tom McDonald is going to have a real "break out" year and gain universal recognition as the next big thing in defenders. His game on the weekend was close to flawless. He's backing himself to take marks defensively, his spoiling is good and his rebounding and attacking play has improved out of sight. If he can play like he did on the weekend all season he'll be knocking on the door of the AA selectors in six months.

The non-MFC world only recognises Jones. Because he is the only one worthy of it at this point in time.

If Tom McDonald's Nab Challenge stats are compared to 2014 AFL Premiership season stats, he would be:

- In the top 10 for marks in the league

- Top 20 for rebound 50s in the league

- Top 15 for one percenters in the league

- Top 50 for disposal efficiency in the league

They are ridiculous stats for a key defender.

This is with a reduced-time format as well.

I loved the passage of play we he got possession at fullback-ish and just ran his guts out to have 3 disposals in quick succession and clear it well beyond the wing to a teammate, that was elite stuff

That type of play is so important to his game, getting the ball out of our backplane and into our forward half, where we now have talls to compete in the air and crumbers at their feet.

Agree with your first sentence. Not sure about the second.

It'll be interesting to see what the non-MFC world thinks of a few other MFC players by the end of this season.

For me its Clearly Dom Tyson. Dean Kent is coming though...

The most exciting thing for me are the blokes that will rise now that we have at least two guns in the midfield (Jones and Tyson). Tyson's break out year came last year. I think he'll be rated very highly externally this year. It'll be interesting to see if Jones or Tyson gets the tag. If one or two others can stand up, it will enable the entire midfield group to rise together and improve their output.

Having said this about the midfield, Frost seems to be the most likely candidate on his NAB Cup showings thus far. Of course, these games often mean very little, but it won't harm his confidence to get some positive games under his belt at this time of year.

I'm really hoping Viney can start to accumulate more possessions and tidy up his disposal. I think the McCartney influence will be evident on our midfield group as the season progresses too. He's the number #1 off season recruit for me.

Probably going to be difficult for Kent unless he moves further up the ground for a midfield role where he can get involved more.

Dom Tyson surely has to be mentioned also, at the age of 21, 35 games with 20 goals.

In his first year without injury in 2014 he played 22 games averaging 23.7 disposals. 11 browlow votes

I don't know how that compares to other players in his category but....

If he got his finger out of his arse and gut run a bit more he would get involved more and also stop his direct opponent running off him more

As other have said he has all the tools but FMD he lacks desire

Those on Demonland know over the years I don't tend to bag players because it's one hell of a tough game but this kid is either going to be an absolute star or as it's currently looking a potential what could have been. I just hope he wakes up before it's to late.

getting in the All Australian team these days is bloody hard with 18 teams in the comp and still only 22 spots in the team, but if I had to pick one MFC player thats a realistic shot in 2015 I would pick Tom McDonald

Simon Goodwin - responsible for balancing Roos defensive style with a bit of attacking flare according to the Sun.

It was noticeable in the first half against the Doggies and should provide plenty for us supporters to be happy about.

Nice to hear that the boys seem to really enjoy his coaching.

Isn't that kind of the point of this thread? :)

I had thought the point of this thread was to identify/predict which MFC players would have breakout seasons, not who will get recognition by the non-MFC world.

For instance, to my mind at least, Tyson (11 Brownlow votes) and Jetta (verging on AA form) had breakout seasons last year - and C&B is perhaps quite right in saying that they still get no recognition by the non-MFC world.

This thread is about predicting who will be this year's Jetta and Tyson.

Not to have a go at Roos, but i often found at Sydney (even in their Grand Final years), that their offence was way too dour. Happy for Goodwin to realise that some attacking flair is needed.

Been burnt on this before but I honestly believe watts will be the breakout player. High half forward pushing up the ground and delivering the ball inside 50. 30 odd goals as cream on top. Despite the issues by far our most skilled and talented player. Will have a year like Gibbs did last year.

The mark he took to win the game against the doggies is a sign of things to come. He hasn't got much love for that mark but it was a ripper. Tricky wind. H was going for goal but miskicked it making it helicopter spin with a flat trajectory. Watts read it beautifully and clunked it

Was going to suggest Watts as well. When drafted it was stated he was a long term prospect and would take 6-7 years, he's at that point now.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
