Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New Leadership Group Announced

Of all the players, I am more pleased for Cross, he was dumped by a club he loved, he could have thrown in the towel but took a one year contract and has not put a foot wrong,

You can sense the respect he has got from the players, he is always last off the track to accommodate another player wanting to practice something or have a goal kicking competition, I put some of Jordie McKenzie's improvement down to Crossy who has done heaps of extra work with him,

The only problem I have with him, I have to be careful what I ask him, he is bluntly honest in his answers, but always answers

Really surprised none of the new draftees were included.

Terrific looking group well done to Chunk and Dunny, great reward for loyalty and consistent performance. Great to see an emphisis placed on experience.

Why are you surprised? Good gosh what a silly statement.

No matter what leadership they show you don't just chuck in a first year player straight into your leadership group when he has matured or played a single game.

Obviously didn't learn from the Trengove/Grimes debacle...??

Vice Captains don't tend to nearly end teammates' careers by concussing them at training, nor do they drop knees in to teammates' kidneys or give away stupid free kicks and 50m penalties being idiots on match day. Hopefully Dunn knows this.

Yep, and shows that we identified a deficiency and have taken steps to correct it.

I fail to see how having "recycled" players in the leadership group is a bad thing.

There are a few in the AFL.

Chris Judd

Gary Ablett

Phil Davis Callan Ward etc

You are posting on a board that demands Watts get physical, and then you put this, every team needs a [censored] in defence, Dunny gets up forwards noses, you will notice he hardly ever gets reported, he knows how to do it just inside the letter of the law,, I don't want him to change

Old "Jumper Punch" Dunn? Vice Captain? Scandalous!

Yes, he has changed, dramatically.

And good on him.

The interesting part of your post though, is where you misconstrue false bravado and jumper punches as the physicality people want to see from Watts. Try not to be such a shameless sycophant, will you? Have some self respect, man!

Take my word for it, he hasn't changed that much on match day, the rest of the defence love his in-your-face style, that is the one other thing I have noticed at training, he leads a defence that would die for each other, he is just 'playing' better and we notice that more now

With all due respect Saty - and in deference to your regular attendance at training and knowledge of what goes on at the club - i do not not need to take your word about how much Dunn, or any other player for that matter, has or has not changed on match day. I - and 99% of the other dees tragics on DL -can determine that all by my lonesome.

He has most definitely changed on match day. He is still aggressive but it is a much more controlled aggression and rarely has the regular brain snaps and the stupid niggling palaver that used to punctuate his game.

Five years ago dees fans and the general footy fans would have laughed if we put him in the LG, let alone made him VC. No one will be laughing today.

Obviously, I agree. And it says a lot about the bloke and the multitude of various people at the club that stuck by his talent which was obvious and is now married with some maturity.

Very happy with the group of experienced, hard and proven players. Would love for Grimesy to return to his best footy and get the football worlds respect back but I am sure he still has it from his team mates.

Its a good group which I think if any of them had something to say to there team mates, the team mates would listen. A far cry from out of form kids taking the responsibility of a team with has beens in Rodan and Byrnes supported further by ol'mate Clark.

Stoked also that there was no silly youth inclusions as well such as Viney, Tyson, McDonald etc. I am sure these three and others have exceptional leadership qualities but lets just let them find there own feet in the footy world prior to being a leader at our beloved club.

Well done Roosy and the MFC!

Love the choices made by the Coaching group. I also love the playing group having a say in these choices. It says to me that the whole FD are making some good choices regarding who will bring this club forward.

Dunn has been a whipping boy by supporters at this club. He has turned this around with some very good development and performances on field. Well deserved choice. It speaks volumes of how he has turned his career around. Dunny also stuck fat with this club by signing another contract. Kudos Dunn!

Two of the three recycled players had choices to which club they went to. They choose the D's. Therefore they are hardly recycled players who came to the worst performed club in recent history for more game time.

TDI I agree with most things you post but I don't agree with this. I was watching the replay of the Dees v Swans game last night and reflected on the fact none of the Swans behave the way Dunny used to. It's not part of their culture. There are plenty of ways to get up forwards noses without behaving the way Dunny used to, especially when it resulted in giving away free's. I agree with others that under Roosy most of this behaviour has thankfully gone away on gameday. It was counter productive the way he was executing it.

This is exactly how a leadership group should be in a footy club. You need to have the experience and wisdom that can only come from playing the game at the highest level for a number of years. We, for a number of reasons, have been missing the wise older heads at our club for many years.

Too often the LG has been seen as a way of giving the younger players a 'taste' of responsibility. Without a strong list and culture, this responsibility has been overwhelming for them. I'm glad that Tyson, Viney, etc have been left out of this. Let them play, let them develop, let them kick down the door of the leadership group in two/three years time.

Says something about the last 10 years or so that half of the leadership group are imports who spent most of their careers at other clubs.

bing, i doubt anyone has any illusions about the last 10 years

it didn't take adding imports to the lg to prove that....it has been obvious to anyone/everyone for some time

anyway, i think they have got the lg pretty right for now

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
