Training - Friday 12th December, 2014

Two things I've noticed about this year's training by comparison with previous years:

1/- there is no jogging between exercises. It's all done at high pace and an apparent sense of urgency. HL is a big exponent of this.

2/- Hogan is not only big, strong & capable, he also has attitude - even with team mates. I am keen to see how this transfers to match day and particularly how he responds when mongrel defenders get at him. I suspect he'll sort them out.

Roll on 2015.

Jimcor your observation number 1 is good to hear. I used to work nearby and was able to get to training in the Bailey and Neeld years and the haphazard approach to training used to drive me nuts at times because I had ducked out of work for a limited period. The players would amble over in dribs and drabs and then stand around or kick a ball around waiting for the coaches to arrive and work out what they were doing. It just didnt look professional to me at all at the time. I think I may have been right.

Not to be critical but TDI has never said a bad word about an MFC player, and wouldn't admit if any of them were training poorly

So its pointless to ask him questions like that

Well I am old enough to make my own decisions now mum, so comments like that are unnecessary. FYI, I got a satisfactory answer that I'm happy with.

I think Grimes realised that a consistent starting position would be based around results - and to get results Jack don't need distractions.

I hope Jack Grimes can lift his game and remain in the 22, but he does have A LOT of ground to make up.

He is still one of the incumbent half back flankers. So if Lumumba is used on the wing then Grimes is still part of the best 7 defenders. Presuming he's fit I think he'd have to put in absolute shockers to not get picked in the preseason games and first month of the season. Particularly when his best competition might be Terlich who's off to a delayed start to the year. Can't see Jayden Hunt or Mitch White threatening his spot any time soon. I wonder as preseason goes on and training becomes more positioned focussed if we see a midfielder (Vince, Michie, Toumpas or even a younger one like Neal-Bullen or Brayshaw) training with the backline group.

Must be really hard for Trenners turning up on that scooter thing, seeing all your team mates training the house down and not being sure where you fit in - especially after the failed trade episode.

Feel really sorry for him as he is a class act.

Better he has the scooter and can actually get out there than being stuck inside sitting in the gym staring at the same 4 walls. As clumsy as it may look it gives him more freedom than hobbling round on crutches. Making the best of a bad situation.

Agree, being out on the ground with the boys would be a massive mental benefit of nothing else. When you rehab in the same area for nine months you get really sick of it.

Yes, agree with you here KDA. Grimes must lift his game & become a lockdown of permanent residence on key defenders & shut them down completely.

We need ruthlessness from him & the back line if we are to become a better side.

I saw JKH walking down swan st in his civvies around 8am - very odd!

He posted a instagram photo of him and couple of mates playing backyard cricket..

Day off maybe?

I am waiting for the usual rumour mongers to say that he is "deeply dissatisfied / unhappy at the club and wants out"! :-))) Edited by monoccular

I'll knock this on the head, asked why he was missing, got three different answers from three different people, so it must be something private, let's leave it at that

That really knocked it on the head...

I'm not intrigued at all now.

Leave it alone, I doubt it is footy related

I was leaving it alone until you mentioned 3 different people had different stories about it.

Glad you didn't leave it alone after the first 2.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
