Summary of today's Trade Radio talk:-

Dangerfield to the Dees?

Melbourne says they're willing to trade picks 2 (and 3 for Frawley compo if they get it) for Patrick Dangerfield. Adelaide say they'd be staggered if Dangerfield wanted to leave.

Jarrad Waite

Waite has walked out on Carlton and looks set to join North Melbourne as a free agent. Waite told the Blues today he would be leaving them. Waite is an unrestricted free agent.

Heritier Lumumba

Lumumba has nominated Melbourne as his preferred club of choice and will seek a trade to the Demons

Dayne Beams

The Brisbane Lions say they will only depart with pick 4 in a trade for Dayne Beams, saying there's "no way in the world" they'll trade any of their young talent for him.

Nick Malceski

Gold Coast has been confirmed as one of the clubs in the running to sign unrestricted free agent Nick Malceski. His manager Ben Niall telling NAB Trade Radio clubs were offering him two-year deals (plus a third with a trigger) to lure him away from the Swans.

Jono O'Rourke and Kristian Jaksch

Carlton confirms its interest in GWS former pick 2 Jono O'Rourke and Kristian Jaksch. O'Rourke has told GWS that he wants to be traded back to Victoria and the Giants are after a first-round pick in exchange

Patrick Ryder

Ryder's manager Paul Connors has told NAB Trade Radio he expects the Power and Bombers to do a really good trade for him. He also conceded pick 16 probably won't be enough.

Jarryd Lyons

Adelaide footy boss David Noble confirms the Crows still haven't put a contract on the table for Jarryd Lyons, who is expected to want to return to Melbourne.

Anyone tell him that's how tier 1 compo works?

I swear people just get more and more misinformed the more people on the radio whine.

Frawley is better than 8 out of the last 10 pick 3s. wonder what he is basing that on?

if he compares that to the Buddy compo then he is missing the point.

Heard that too.

What Swan (sook) and the muppets Wallace and Barrett need to get their collective heads around is the AFL need to decide if Chip is worth band 1 not pick 3, that is the system.

Swan mentioned Ablett and mid first rounder option but that only existed for GWS/GC out of contract poachings system IIRC - doesn't exist now.

If Frawley is not worth pick 3 then lobby to change the system in future years but don't whinge and expect the AFL to compromise their decision of band 1 purely because the system is flawed. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Frawley clearly warrants more than band 2 - deep down these muppets know but prefer to muckrake. The system is what the system is.

No surprise that if Melbourne gets pick 3 for Frawley, Brisbane's pick 4 becomes pick 5.

He wouldn't give a rat's otherwise.

The determination of the band that applies by way of compensation is not dependent on a player's worth but is based on a set formula.

The point is that the current compensation methodology is the only thing saving clubs down the bottom.

If compensation in its current form is scrapped, free agency will sound the death toll for mfc and other lowly clubs as higher clubs will pillage with no compensation for us. We will effectively become a feeder side only and it will be a two tier competition (well even more than it is now).

This is what I had heard about a month ago actually. He prefers him over Petracca... We still need to keep building for the long term, I'd be happy with Brayshaw.

only if you call putting clubs on life support systems could you call it "saving" clubs

Summary of today's Trade Radio talk:-

Mitch Clark/James Frawley

The Cats could be in line to pick up two of the biggest names in this year's NAB Trade and Free Agency period.

Already, former Melbourne forward Mitch Clark has nominated the Cats as his preferred club.

Meanwhile, Geelong footy manager Neil Balme has told NAB Trade Radio today that even if the club can secure Clark, they'll still be keen on bringing in free agent James Frawley who is yet to make a decision on his

Greg Swan

Brisbane CEO Greg Swann says he believes Melbourne shouldn't receive pick 3 as compensation for the potential departure of James Frawley.

WJ's note:

Is it possible that an AFL CEO doesn't understand how FA compensation works? Is he just speaking up because Band 1 compensation for Frawley weakens his club's own pick from 4 to 5? Surely not?

Shaun Higgins

Higgins has officially departed the Western Bulldogs, telling the club he will leave as a free agent. North Melbourne and "one other club" are in the hunt for his signature.

Dayne Beams

Collingwood list manager Derek Hine confirms the Lions will need more than pick 4 to secure Dayne Beams. Hine said the Pies were happy to let Beams depart, so long as they were properly compensated.

Liam Jones

Jones has officially requested a trade from the Western Bulldogs to Carlton. Jones played just 10 games this year, but the Blues are after the key forward to replace departing free agent Jarrad Waite.

Daniel Merrett

Merrett could be on his way out of the club, with the Lions confirming he was exploring his options to move elsewhere. Merrett is still contracted at the Lions.

Jono O'Rourke

Hawthorn and St Kilda have expressed interest in former number 2 GWS draft pick Jono O'Rourke. His manager Tom Petroro has confirmed to NAB Trade Radio that he has requested a trade back to Victoria.

It will be another massive day tomorrow on

Hope that 'other club' interested in Higgins is not us.

And Merrett - could be okay for us, even though I still dislike him for smashing Pedersen's nose in - that was a dog act.

Weren't we linked to Merrett a few weeks back?

Doesn't seem to be much trade action going on with Richmond, Essendon, Bulldosg, West Coast or Adelaide with player recruitment.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
