Off topic slightly, but I've removed the word "gay" from the auto-censor. It came in with a rather heavy handed list we installed a while ago.

I wonder how many of the blokes on here who talk about HL being a cancer in the locker room were dead keen on keeping Colin Sylvia at the club once he 'finally got a preseason into him'?

The difference is that HL craves attention, whereas colin craves the nightlife.

Both quite poor.

I dislike him because he is over rated and butchers the football

I was a bit ho-hum on footy this evening. I was watching a recording of today's NFL during the first quarter tonight such was my footy ennui a couple of hours ago. Logging onto Demonland however and seeing a bit of chatter about us being proactive in this early stage of the offseason, whether scuttlebutt or not, has lifted my spirits. I can't imagine why anyone would be downcast at the news that Paul Roos is doing his due diligence to try and improve this list.

Lumumba's trade price will be interesting. Have Collingwood had a gut full of him? If so, this can't help their asking price. If the price is right, it's a definite yes from me.

I hope those threatening to shelve their memberships can see things with a bit more clarity if a trade to Melbourne does eventuate. Not renewing over this after the eight years we've just had would be akin to crawling over a kilometre of broken glass, exotic cacti and scorpions and then complaining about your tinea.

I'd rather a bloke who actually has principles about what is right and wrong than one whose main principle was 'if it feels good, do it'.

I haven't noticed anyone on this forum advocating homophobia. The question is about the best way to change attitudes.

I would suggest over-reaction and self righteousness will alienate the very people you are trying to reach.

I don't agree with those who think he would be a problem in the locker room or that he doesn't have anything that would benefit our club.

You would think that our ex-Collingwood personnel in Jason Taylor and Chris Dawes would have a comprehensive insider's view on HL, and if that's good enough for Roos and the club, good enough for me.

So much speculation here, where in reality We Just Don't Know.

this is the funny thing for me. Who has said he has made a big issue over the poster? I haven't heard him say anything. I've just heard media reports. So they must be true hey? A bit inconsistent with the mistrust journos get on this site. Suddenly they only report the truth and all the facts and people are OK about making judgements on this supposed truth

The only thing I've heard from Eddie is that he expects he will stay at Collingwood. I think there are funny buggers going on here, also think we have some clever buggers running the club now.

BT had a fairly detailed account of what happened on 3AW tonight.

It began at the end of a regular tactics meeting, where H got up and gave a long talk expressing his concerns over the environment at the club (presumably locker-room homophobia or similar behaviour).

It went on for some time and two senior players got up to bring it to an end, saying it was not the right forum to bring it up, at a tactics meeting.

At some point Rocket Eade organised a full team meeting specifically to address H's concerns, and I think they were largely allayed.

Then he saw the defaced photo on the noticeboard and demanded a meeting with Buckley where he expressed the sentiment that it was an "unsafe work environment".

It was a hostile meeting apparently that ended with Bucks and H all but agreeing he should finish up. They agreed to let it sit overnight and apparently H came back the next day and was a lot more amenable.

Well, that's what I can remember BT saying - I may have mixed the order up a bit.

Make of it what you will.

I've got no issues if a player has a strong social conscience. I wouldn't be happy if he brought those issues into tactics meetings or training or other times when we should be concentrating on footy.

What is with Roosy meeting people in cafes? If I was headhunting a high profile contracted employee and they wanted to meet up in the local cafe I would assume they were playing me. So unprofessional.

Under AFL rules you can't formally meet with players until Free Agency starts.

By having a coffee at a cafe, makes it an informal chat between friends.

Loop hole in the system.

Never doubt Roosy!

You know that for a fact? First hand evidence? (And media reports are not fact.) All you post are broad sweeping statements h_h.

So now you believe casual homophobia is ok? No wonder g ay AFL footballers do not come out.

There might be many reasons for not wanting H on our list, but calling homophobia for what it is should not be one of them.

'Casual Homophobia'?? Meh. Where is ones ability to laugh at oneself and then understand humour for what it is? The phobia only exists if the fear exists. I see no fear here.

Thanks for the recap mate.

It sounds as though it had been going on for a while in smaller quantities, and while bringing it up in a tactics meeting isn't the right way to go, he had simply had enough of what had been going on and wanted to make his opinion known. It doesn't sound as though it's happened once and he's cracked it, more that it's been happening over the course of weeks/months/years and he spoke up.

Then someone has defaced the photo, even though as a group they had discussed what had been going on, and that was it.

Having said that we don't know how accurate the recount is, and while HL hasn't handled it really well it doesn't sound as though the Pies have either.

Australia has a long history of bigotry and racism (sometimes) masquerading as "humour" and then blaming the victim for being a sook and not being able to take it. It's ok to say others should laugh it off but it's easy to say when you're not on the end of it. I'm sure people dont always take offence it depends on the context and nature of it but at the end of the day this stuff wouldn't be tolerated in any other modern workplace and if someone takes offence and has raised it as an issue then it is inappropriate to continue with that behaviour whether you think they are being a sook or not.

is that because they get in the way of all the racist and homophobic fun. You are the lowest common denominator

What an absolutely outrageous comment.

You obviously didn't last long in any team sport because your the type of bloke no teamate would respect or give two shits about.

Comments like these its really hard to believe you have ever kicked the leather skin.

I guess the problem with it all, much the same as the statement "run like a girl", is that it has become something that people say as derivative statements because it has negative connotations for earlier times. There is no way someone would try and be offensive by saying "you are so straight" but also it is commonplace for people to make a statement such as "that's gay" about something they don't like.

None the less I don't know where I'm going with that point, but it's just simply educating these football players to not be so stupid when they are making "jokes".

That said HL craves attention, butchers the football, is an awful one v one defender and really I hope we don't pick him up.

At the end of the day I am sure he is very sincere and wants to do the right thing, but at the same time it feels like over the last few years he always wants to be in the headlines for something

I heard this as well and it is exactly my point. No doubt BT has good oil at the maggies but who is to say that what he has reported actually happened, or at least happened the way BT described it. The way you have written it you imply what he has said is accurate. It is at the best hearsay. At worst it is Collingwood propaganda trying to spin it so they look great and HL looks a disruptive [censored]. Who do you think gave BT the version of events? Not HL or his manager i assume,

I reiterate, i have yet to hear from HL and i see an amazing contradiction in many posts given how critical DL posters are usually of journos, their sources and their accuracy.

Is it not possible there is an alternative version of events or should we simply uncritically swallow BT's version?

Regardless of weather his past this prime or not ... The above comment just reinforces the ignorance of respecting someone s name...

Sorry it's not smith or jones...

These are the racist overtures that continue in our community!

What does not liking someone's name have to do with race?

I know someone who named their children "Kevler" (after the body armour material) and "D'wayne"

No racist undertones there, just really shitty names. I agree Heritier is a bad name, just like I dislike Sharon and Wayne. It's not a racist thing.

I think the word you were looking for as well is overtones and not overtures unless of course you were referring to a "racist" orchestral piece played at the beginning of the opera.

Eddie does appear to have been quiet about this but I get the feeling that H and Collingwood have had enough of each other. A new club might give his footy a bit of a boost

Like most things, if the price is right you'd take him. He'd strengthen the squad

I don't think his kicking is as bad as some make out here. It's certainly better than a lot of our current lot. I do agree with the poster that mentioned his one on one defending being poor

However I'd hope that we secure Malceski first. Him we need.

I think we need some run and carry that Heritier can bring but we need better foot skills that he doesn't. The age profile I would be looking at is around the 22 to 25 yo, this is where our drafting has really let us down. There will be a lot of opportunities, I think we can do better.

Fair cop.

I'd chuck him in a bucket with everybody else we thought we could land and take the best ones.

Maybe we agree after all.

Imagine how boring the locker room would be with this guy in it

Would totally kill the mood and comraderie

What has this world come to that you can no longer hang crap on your mates for looking like a couple of batties. Gee humanity needs to lighten up!! These guys are young blokes. A footy club locker room is a mans world. I wish these PC Utopians would get with reality.

Let's keep sewing clubs feminine and sensitive but let's stop taking away environments where blokes can be blokes.

I wouldn't know what to say to some of my mates if I couldn't call them a big Pooof when they were acting like a nancy. This hypersensitivity is so lame. Let boys be boys

Btw the homosexuals get their Mardi gras, when do the polygamists of the world, themselves a minority group, start getting some recognition??

KB interviewed Eddie the other day, he pretty much walk Harry to the door...lol..

Collingwood are into are into our list big time, ive heard there target is Watts... they've had their media machine working our list for weeks, pushing our player prices down So they can poach our their targets on the cheap and act as though their doing us a favor by taking him...

I don't care about HO righteous ways, he's an ok footy player and I'd take him at the right price... But... I do care if Collingwood push us around in trade week!! Harry is 27 an the best id give for him, would be a fourth rounder or id wait for him tobe delisted... As you know i wouldn't trade watts, but If Collingwood really want Him, then i want their first round pick + Harry O...

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
