I dont think Roos is ambivalent, I think he is mightily disappointed Mitch is the sort of player virtually any side would scramble to get. I think he is gutted in loosing possibly his best player for a second time, i.e. lost him to retirement to then find there maybe a chance of a return to now find he wants to go somewhere eles. But what can he do about it on national tv that will not either come back on him, the club or mitch. he played it cool as he could. It now about where we go from here,

i have to question the depression bit, for a guy who quickly went into depression he seems to have quickly found his way out again as well, and in doing so have negotiated not only a healthy settlement to his multi year contract with the MFC but possibly a nice healthy new contract with another club. Gee things seem to have really worked out well for Mitch and his manager financially. If mitch was really seriously depressed then my deepest apologies to him, but unfortunately the world is full of unscrupulous people/managers who take advantage of other peoples good will and good intentions. I hope this is the former case, but fear it is probably the later.

Just clarifying the situation: did I hear Ox say, tonight, that MC received $2 million for a total of 15 games?

Cheeses. My wife is a nurse in charge of a major emergency department. Saves lives every day. It would take her about 30 years to earn that amount.

Heard his manager on SEN. What a scumbag.

Do these people have any morality at all? Does the fact that a struggling club has given you that much money not suggest to them that you might feel morally obliged to give them something back?

I am very annoyed, frustrated and disappointed with all of this.

It could have been so easy for MC to play footy again but instead its an absolute dogs breakfast.

Thank god Roos and Co are in charge.

What I don't understand is if MC told MFC a few weeks ago, why is he training with Melbourne staff?

Which is why MC and manager may have been aware that MFC was lukewarm on a comeback? which caused them to explore the possibility of other clubs?

pffft... Mitch Clark has left our club via a false retirement.. Does he even have an illness? Who knows... you can believe what you want....

My post was reactionary... But after years and years of players leaving, after showing promise... Can you blame me? This year we will lose our best forward and our best defender and along with the many other who have parted the club, through varied circumstances... I'm seriously doubting our clubs ability to hold on to players...

Good thinking mate but I think its not so much the club but more the players with the wrong morals and values (money the key one)

Yep, supposedly 700k per year and managed to play 15 over the 3 years

Bloody hell it was great to watch his efforts and ability, he always tried his guts out.

ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ZZzzzzz.............

Is that what you think of this evening's developments. Off to bed then, old fella.

I think we should just accept he is gone forget that and concentrate on the trade outcome - I am sure underneath the diplomacy that is what Roos is thinking now.

Hawks first rounder will do it.

Its another example why there should be PP's - good players only want to go to the top clubs. Its all lop sided!!!!

What I don't understand in all of this is why he doesn't want to come back to Melbourne?

Hard enough to come back, why make it harder?

It's not we are in a worse shape than when he joined!!??

Who even wants this guy at the club anymore after watching the way he and his manager have played this? I would love to know what the inner sanctum of players are feeling right now, especially the leadership group.

Who knows, maybe this will be a galvanizing moment for the list.. (heard that before).

If Clark did move to another club it would likely be through this year's trade period, although Young said Clark has made it clear he does not want to let Melbourne down.
"Mitchell would not walk away from the Melbourne footy club without them getting compensated," Young said.
"Mitchell also did them a massive favour by walking away from a very lucrative contract and also free up a space on their list."

You do realise that's not the footy player don't you.

In the spirit of transparency and not wishing to mislead fellow posters, I feel obliged to let everyone here know that I'm not actually Ron Burgundy.

He is my hero though.

Roos played that like a master.

He firmly reminded the footy community that this guy isn't stable. All this player welfare language is code for 'hard work'.

I don't believe that Mitch acted with malice when he retired.

I do believe that he's made a horrible decision about what to do next.

He's made himself look dishonest and called into question how the football community views mental health issues

It's not exactly endearing and it will make him a target. He's brought it on himself, and I'm not sure he's strong enough to handle what it will truly mean for him for the rest of his life.

How is that masterful if we are trying to maximise his trade value?

Simplest answer is that we gave him the impression he wasn't 100% certain to play next year.

Looking at what GNF has said (I know, I know) and what Roos and MFC are saying, it could be that MFC was planning to relist him as a rookie, just to see how everything pans out.

Maybe that doesn't sit well with MC, with other clubs circling.

Explains a lot.

I'm so glad Roos is handling this.

[censored], he was the ice man on 360 tonight - very impressive!

I would have gone off like a fat kid in a lolly shop!

Mike Sheahan just said Mitch was seen at the Westpac Centre on Friday

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
