Changes for round 16 v Fremantle

All sound suggestions. I'd perhaps leave Frawley in and place him in the forward line. And kick Nicho out...

Or maybe Michie in and Nicho out.

I like Nicho but his kicking just lets him and the team down but credit to him he keeps on trying and has really good endurance.

We know that Bail, Terlich, Nicholson & Matt Jones are taking us nowhere, they are not good enough.

We are very certain that Salem & JKH have many years ahead of them and should be managed and played sparingly for the remainder of the season.

Therefore, in my opinion the above 6 players should be rotated in and out of the side for the remainder of the season to allow Blease, Tapscott and Michie to all have the remaining games which in the case of Tapscott and Blease will make or break their careers at MFC.

I would spew up if Blease & Tapscott were to end up succeeding at other Clubs when they haven't had anywhere near the chances that some others have had.

I think with 7 games to go its time to make or break these guys. Agree that they should be given every chance as playing in Casey must be soul destroying.

Bet he does because Freo will be resting quite a few and the opportunity to play against his old side. Reckon Morabito will be in as well.

Probably right but he doesn't deserve one at the moment.

Highly doubt freo will rest Players. Ross Lyon is coming up against Paul Roos and will be similar in terms of game plan etc

Lyon said on the Sunday Footy Show that it was going to be a tough assignment against us.

Hell, Nicholson got a game, Blease has been in the VFL bests most of the season. He deserves a go.

Let's ask, Why? If he's in the bests every week, why isn't he getting a game? Under this new regime, apparently we don't gift games anymore. Not unless your already in the firsts.

Bet Sylvia has a breakout game against us. We always resurrect careers for the opposition

I think he'll be dropped for Morabito on yesterdays showing. Lyon was ropeable at the end of the game despite taking the four points. He let them have it and they were poor for all but a quarter and 10 minutes.

They wont start asleep 2 weeks in a row

If Roos thinks Blease has learnt to work both ways he comes in for some line breaking run, if he has learnt you don't want him coming in against Freo. Freo's big mids of Barlow, Fyfe & Mundy are a hard ask so think Michie may come in. Salem to me looks tired so JKH back in. Mckenzie for me better tagger than Nicho.

The Dockers are light on for KPD'S and Kepler Bradley played at Full Back and CHB for Peel in the WAFL yesterday so think he may come in to support Dawson. As for match ups next week who gets the job on Hill he was sublime yesterday.

Ins

Michie, Mckenzie & JKH

Outs

Nicho, Terlich & Salem

Tappy and Blease come into consideration if Roos wants to go smaller and leave Gawn out

Tappy MUST come in. JKH too. Both had blinders and need to be rewarded. If either of those two don't come in, we are wasting our time.

JKH sure. But it's Tappy's first really good game for the whole year. On consistent form Blease and Michie probably have an edge on him. As does McKenzie.

No one has a blinder when the team gets completely belted that's for sure.

And was Tappy playing forward or back I'm not even sure?

I'm happy with JKH, Tappy and/or Michie. Tappy played wherever we needed him to GRRM. He was everywhere!

Won't see more than 3-4 changes I think, so take your pick from the bunch

Potential outs:

Garland - FMD he's gone so far backwards it's unbelievable. A few months back I was supportive of his potential captaincy. Thank god that didn't eventuate. Make all the excuses you like, it's not his fitness that's the issue, it's his decision making and disposal. Have also noticed him seemingly shirk a contest here and there, have never seen that before from him. So disappointing

Nicholson - Never again

Terlich - Never again

Salem - Needs to spend time at Casey and earn his spot

Kent - Wouldn't advocate his demotion to Casey, but he needs to lift his game.

Potential ins:

TMac - If fit.

Georgiou - Would almost bring him in for Garland

Blease - Now or never

Tapscott - See above

Michie - Want to see him get a go

JKH - Need his pace and crumbing ability if we are to play both Gawn and Jamar.

Fact is, we're never going to win games with Matt Jones, Terlich, Nicholson, Frawley, Grimes, Bail etc all in the same side. That lot are just far too turnover-prone (though Grimes was ok today)

I know Salem isn't doing great at the moment but his 5-10 possessions are 100% better than 15-20 of bail, nicho, mjones massacre.

He certainly shows amazing maturity, awareness and poise. Beautifully balanced. He should turn out to be a real gem.

The late Alan Jeans was supposedly asked what characteristic above all others he looked for in a player and his answer was 'balance'.

Nicholson and Terlich should be dropped and their papers may as well be stamped.

One of Kent and Salem should be rested, they're giving us nothing right now though that doesn't bother me long-term.

I'd also drop Garland. We're a player short in defence right now with him back there, and he's not showing any signs of finding that form in the AFL.

McKenzie worked hard enough while he was playing to get his spot straight back. I'd then bring in two of JKH, Toumpas and Blease. Blease seems to have done enough at Casey and we're unlikely to see any more or less of him if we leave him there any longer. JKH never should have been dropped, and though I've not been impressed with his response, we need him in the side. Toumpas has been doing enough at Casey for mine, and I'd rather him in the side than Nicholson/Terlich. McDonald if fit, or Georgiou, to replace Garland.

The two Macs in ... for Terlich (injured) and AN Other out. Salem? Subbed off last week, and didn't do all that much this week. Going to be a player, but it's a long season.

Not sure why anyone's calling for wholesale changes, when it's obviously not the way of the new coaching regime. Also not sure why anyone's calling for Garland to be dropped either. He may not quite be the Garland of old, but 20 possessions, 9 marks, 5 tackles ... time to stop judging players by their mistakes, no matter how horrendous.

I can't make any sense of this. Not being rude, I must just misunderstand what you're attempting to say.

He'd be rolling in his grave over Jack Watts then...

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
