There are already threads on Saintsational....a bit more measured than would be on here but not much!

Wait until Petracca starts to play some good games, they will be in full melt down.

Brayshaw's performance will only inspire and challenge his good mate in Petracca next year!

I get the sense Christian is a competitive beast who'll be out to build his reputation.

I went to 6 or 7 training sessions in the pre-season and it looked very much to me like Petracca, not Brayshaw, was going to be the one to burst onto the scene. Just his physical development and the way he was going about it, he looked absolutely ready. The fact Brayshaw has absolutely killed it makes me very eager to see CP out there next year, can't wait. I posted in the Trengove thread that article about how the Dees put all that work into Hogan while he was injured and are now doing that for CP, I reckon we won't be disappointed come 2016.

I can see last year's draft being looked at as a massive one for the club. Especially if we are up in a few years challenging deep in finals.

#2: Christian Petracca

#3: Angus Brayshaw

#40: Alex Neal-Bullen

#42: Billy Stretch

#53: Oscar McDonald

Rookie Draft

#2 Aaron Vandenberg

Plus there also needs to be included in this Sam Frost who we traded pick 23 for and Mitch White who was our other rookie pick and seems to be developing well as a small defender with a booming left foot.

I'll tell you what, if the roles were reversed and Melbourne had pick #1, St Kilda #2 and #3 and we had of drafted McCartin, there would have been articles everywhere how we had potentially screwed up another pick.

To be fair, that's because we have screwed up a number of picks.

Between Brayshaw and Hogan the club better have a good stock of #1's handy for the jumpers.

All they need is Gawny to continue his great form and there could be a huge shortage of #1's

I recall a post by TGR, apologies as I cant remember if it was on here on on Demonology.

He put it quite well. STARS win the big games.

We need STARS, as they stand up in the big moments, and drag the team over the line, both with skill, and will. (paraphrasing only)

After a decade, I finally have confidence that we have at least 2 players on our list, who will become STARS, and my god it feels good.

Brayshaw and Hoges will have every other club scrambling to put together monster deals, as these young blokes have already shown they have what it takes to rip the competition apart.

If Petracca is as good as Brayshaw, we might finally be able to stop looking at other clubs lists, thinking, "why not us"

We are also building a nucleus of guys who hold limited baggage from our losing years and are creating a culture of enthusiasm and expectation that hard work, good development support and buy-in will create the environment for success. Thank you Paul Roos and Peter Jackson.

Even when McCartin debuted against Collingwood!

I didnt see too much delusional talk in that thread, although I did skip the first page.

What I did see, was a forum that looks like it was put together by a first year IT student, who was full to the eyeballs with the good stuff.

Very ugly site to read..

I expect St Kilda will regret not taking either Brayshaw or Petracca.

I don't really understand clubs taking forwards early in the draft, more often than not - it doesn't work.

Sure, there are some exceptions, but the large majority of forwards taken early have failed.

That is looking like becoming one of the best drafts ever for any club.

Well done team.

Here's a tough one - if you had to choose right now between Brayshaw and Hogan which do you take?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
