Neville Jetta Elevated

Little Richard

Recommended Posts

He was far from our worst. Defensive efforts were fine and his effiency would of been up. He's just short of a gallop at AFL level.

looked just a bit out of sync with what the others were doing, was busy, & put in. more than some I saw, thru moments of the game.

There was a particular moment that I enjoyed where a GC tall beat our defender for best position but Jetta came off his man and ran across to spoil, succeeded.

Sure, he didnt get much of the ball but everything he did was OK

Is this akin to getting a ribbon for 'participating?'

I just scanned this thread to make sure I didn't post anything about Jetta two months ago. Thank goodness.

All my posts in the past have been along the lines of "don't think he's any good, but has a crack so I would like to be wrong".

I thought he was gorrrnnn. Preferred Bennell. But I did think if Nev was ever going to make it it would be as a small defender. Glad to see he's been given a chance there & been given a chance to settle into it

His highlights tape when we recruited him remains a favourite. No high marks or freaky goals. Mainly Nev tackling people into the dirt. He just loves smacking into opposition players

Yep. I genuinely couldn't understand why we took another punt on him in the rookie draft, but I think it goes without saying that I'm happy to be proven wrong any time a Melbourne player (see also Pedersen and to a lesser extent Dunn) turns it around for the better. A full pre-season and a clear and consistent role seem to have helped. Good on him.

Could be, doubles back into trouble sometimes, but his straight-line pace is above average IMO. Can chase pretty well

Have to agree with this now, S.

Bye bye Neville

There has been a bit of humble pie on menus here of late - would you like yours with sauce, salad and fries?

Has played several v good games this year but today was his best I thought, maybe in all the time he's been at the club.

Great defensively, and plenty of run and attack from the backline.

This. My criticism of Jetta for about 5 years has always been he's good around and with the ball but he doesn't get involved enough. Today when our backline was under a lot of pressure he looked composed. Has a great first step and agility to get out of trouble.

Only thing is I haven't seen the replay, what happened with that non goal to Vince?

The umpire said he was off his line and couldn't play on until he was back in line with the mark. Absolute BS call. If he's run off his line it's play on and the goal counts.

Not if he never got back over his line after marking. But as far as I could tell he took the mark, went back on his line (he was pretty much directly in front but 50 out) and then stepped off it at some stage to give the handball.

I was actually fighting some Collingwood numpty at the time so missed it. Saw the repeat play with Dunn. I think Dunn's about 0-10 this year with handball receives around the 50

i agree with wyl - ump got that one very wrong.... if he's off his mark it's play on, if he plays on it play on....rubbish over officiating.

Anyway I don't think we would have won even if it was a goal but that really gave the s$@#s

PS - love little Nev - love his shepards, keep up the good work!

The umpire gave him a fewo soused then blew time off just as he handballs it, he was going to line him up like a shot. Just unlucky.

You nailed it. Nev was moving off the line. probably got the call from Bernie a split sec too late.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
