According to news.com.au: "Cross played on with the injury against the Kangaroos. Cross did not leave the field and threw himself into several tough contests in the dying minutes."



According to Dave Misson on the club website: "It was at the end of the game and we didn’t end up putting him back on."

Recovery from a fractured fibula is usually straight forward. Better this than a hamstring or calf in this age group to enable him to go on next year.

Does anyone know any detail? If it it close the the ankle it can be more if a problem, but otherwise as you say usually straight forward.

Roos said it was a fine crack. That's why it wasn't reported until late. - allowing for Cross being as tough as nails. As such should heal without complication and in minimum time.a just reading between the lines though.

Jesse Hogan (back) – 6 weeks Anyone else get excited he has numbers beside his name and not indefinite.

Not really given that he had the same number 6 beside his name when the equivalent list was released a week ago. If he is moving forward with the injury it's at such a slow pace that we're not likely see him in action for some time yet.

big blow. The 1 percenters he provides are massive for our boys, he's a great tagger and wins a lot of his own ball. I think his absence will be very noticable this weekend. Despite doggies outs, we will be pushed i think.

I will tip us, but with little confidence. Also considering the venue and our lack of competitiveness at that venue.

Although the boys are playing a very different brand and have a very different mindset. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Every week is a learning curve now and I'm enjoying watching it. Every week we see something new that the boys need to improve on.

He also fixes up a lot of the other players' mistakes. For example, he often scoops up a handpass that misses a target or gets the ball back after one of our player's disposals are smothered. He'll be missed.

He is such an honest footballer.

What really impresses me about him is he is a "contest to contest" footballer. He doesn't drop his intensity or his head if something doesn't go his way.

He was stitched up twice in quick succession by Zaharakis but straight after gut run to be the last link in the chain that got the ball to Salem.

He is a total professional.

I agree Cross will be missed far more than anyone who depends on footy stats would realise. He is just "there", a presence and a support, well over and above the recordable things he does.

Yes - it is a vastly different brand of footy in 2014 - we missed one chance to beat a long standing bogey last week, but we have an opportunity to beat another one this time, at Doglands Stadium. A win there would be very sweet.

We will miss this guy more than any other this year.

He regularly shut down the opposition gun.

He regularly gets tough hard ball

He regularly makes a split second correct decision

He regularly handballs to advantage

Viney tiring.

Makes me think we are in for a tough month of footy.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
