Unfortunatly picking up Cross will cancel out thr Sylvia compo

No it won't, we can pick up Cross as a delisted free agent which means no compensation as his previous club has removed him ffrom their senior list.

Posted (edited)

Cross is very important in this equation. If we we get him it makes taking a kid more palatable. But, if we get him and a ready made (ie Sloane, Swallow) then, all of a sudden, we have a midfield. Then we'll see.

Cross might only be on the list for 12 months, the player at pick 2 needs to be a 10 year premiership player whether it be a fresh kid or one that has just started cooking.

I would hope and expect that it would have no bearing on the decision.

Even if this was true, the primary determinant re compo is the terms of the contract (salary, length). It's why we got so much for Scully (OK, not FA, but similar principal), and so little for Moloney.

If we do keep it Kelly is my choice.

Interested to hear your reasoning for this, as to me Kelly is the sort of player we don't need. Not saying you're wrong by any stretch, just curious.

Pick 2 for Adams and pick 10.

Pick 10 to Collingwood for Heath Shaw and their second rounder.

Pick 20 and Collingwood second rounder on best available midfielder. Done

So many variables and computations. The foundation stones for this draft/trade period are :

1.Our desperate need for a massive and immediate increase in midfield class and ability.

A ready-to-go primed midfielder (Swallow, Sloane etc...)

A young potential young midfielder (Aish etc...)

Watts being hinted as a midfielder

Cross as a possible DFA

2. The possible trade of Sylvia, Jamar and maybe Blease, Tapscott, others...

3. We need to look back and see Roos' history at the draft/trade.

How did he go about getting Richards, Shaw, Mattner, etc...? What did he let go to get them?

Players like Hanneberry, Luke Parker, Reid - what number were they drafted or were there other draft trades involved?

unless its ablett material,,,,dont give up a pick 2

Yep.

Don't give up pick 2 unless it's for the best midfielder of all time.

Pick 10 to Collingwood for Heath Shaw and their second rounder.

Wow really? you think Shaw is worth a mid first round pick plus change?

I'd be amazed if Shaw gets traded for much more than a late second rounder,... he is 28 years old, has had injuries over the journey, and isn't the most solid character. I do rate him as a player when fit though, but no way he is that good.

I apologise if I've missed something but why do GWS have pick 10? All these deals involve pick 2 to GWS for Adams and pick 10...

They've activated a compensation pick (couldn't tell you which, probably traded from another club)

To be honest I've never seen Aish or Kelly or any of them play. I'm only going on what I've read and heard, and how reliable is that...who knows. Have a good mate who coaches under 16's for a TAC side and says he goes alright. Under 16's is not 18's but all the coaches talk and watch lots of games of differant age groups. As we know early picks can go either way. There was a mindset that kids that are from WA or SA are more developed because they have already played against men, that hasn't always been the case. I hope we can land a player during trade week. Who ever we take I won't be rushing into an early judgement like the Wines/Toumpas debate that has raged on here.

Fair enough - to be honest I'm merely going by much of what you have written above. Seen some clips, read plenty of stuff but nothing more than that. The only assumption I can make is that many believe Kelly will be purely an outside mid, while Aish has the ability to win his own footy as well as being an outside running type as well, something that stands out to me a little more.

I just hope that whoever we choose is the right player for our club going forward.

Pick 2...

option 1 - James Aish (ND#2)

or option 2 - trade ND#2 to Suns for David Swallow (Suns get Scharenberg)

or option 3 - trade ND#2 to Giants for Taylor Adams and Pick 10. (Giants get Scharenberg)

or option 4 - trade ND#2 to eagles for Scott Selwood and pick 25. (Eagles get Aish)

It's as simple as if David Swallow is on the table that's where pick 2 is going imo

pick up Swallow for pick 2

lose Sylvia and gain pick 21 as compo

trade that and Mark Jamar for Taylor Adams with the threat of PSD

pick 20 - Zak Jones

pick 38- Anthony Miles

DFA - Daniel Cross, Mav Wellar, Darren Jolly

team suddenly looks very different.

If it's to be Adams (my preference), I'd send pick 2 and Jamar to GWS for pick 9 and Adams.

I know Jamar has minimal currency, but with Jolly expected to come on board, we need to move him, and I think GWS will want him to replace Brogan.

Jamar has NO currency. he had about 3 touches in 4 games this year. hes done.

I hear pick 2 could be traded to a club like hawthorn for two or more second tier mids.

You have good inside sources. Any names mentioned?

Posted

I hope not, why trade pick 2 for 2nd tier players. Kennedy & McGlynn went for picks 39, 46 and 76.

I hear pick 2 could be traded to a club like hawthorn for two or more second tier mids.

Which of the Hawks kids played well in the middle for their recent VFL premiership?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
