surely Jack Viney must be ready

i miss watching him play already

I would not hold your breath hh

he has been out a while now and a foot injury must have reduced his fitness.

A possible return via Casey is the best I can imagine.

I am unsure about Magner's availability; he was upgraded for Grimes, who was put on the long term injury list. If Grimes is to even play VFL, Magner must go back to being a rookie. How this sits with the availability of rookies after round 11, with Clisby as our nominated rookie ... As I said, I am unsure.

Having said that, I would have Magner in in a heartbeat. Our midfield got pushed around all night, not just in the last twenty minutes.

out: Blease (if injured) byrnes (no impact when it was needed)

In: Grimes (if fit) Strauss

Magner would be a liability against the faster swan midfield

To think Grimes is going to step straight into the seniors is laughable, he needs a run at Casey first.

He's fit and has been taking physical contact to simulate game conditions. I doubt he needs to run himself into form.

If he's okay, include him. Sub him if we have to.

What's your point?

I think Mr Burgundy is saying that James Magner being turtle slow has not stopped Brock from being a worthwhile AFL footballer.

By the way, Goodes will apparently be off the park for the next 6 weeks so we won't have to worry about how to draft Cale back from East Perth for the week.

Yep, thanks for that, I was just fishing.

I wouldn't rate McLean a worthwhile footballer. List clogger.

I think that Magner and Couch will be delisted at the end of the year.

Doesn't say much for either achievement.

Your anger is clouding your judgement on this one jr.

Mclean is a good footballer who should be playing in the midfield for the Dees.

Not anger, OD, pragmatism and opinion.

I watch the elite midfields and see pace, pace and pace.

Even Swan and Mitchell have a burst over the first important 5 metres.

To say that Magner will add to our midfield is clutching at straws.

I have nothing against the boy, he's just too slow for AFL footy.

Wrong

Will play seniors this week

Laughable to suggest he would need a run at Casey when hes been able to train and keep up his fitness the last month and he is our captain and a top 5 player.

I think it would be insane to throw him straight in with that long a layoff. Give him a week at least at Casey to find his touch. It would also help not to put his freshly healed shoulder in against a really physical side like the Swans.

grimes will come right back in if fit, if it was a leg injury time at casey might be appropriate but his collarbone should be fine by now

Does being captain make a difference? Not just at Melbourne, but at any club. Didn't Luke Hodge come back after an injury via Box Hill?

Having said that, if he's fit - and that's a big 'if' - I see no reason for him not to come straight into the seniors.

Well according to this article we will have Dylan Grimes playing for us, which will be a bonus!:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-07-02/preview-demons-v-swans?utm_medium=RSS

Melbourne broke through for its second win of the year against the Western Bulldogs last weekend, although not before an almighty scare in the final quarter. The Demons are using the corridor more and seem to have discovered an ability to run. But they're up against it this time around facing the hard nuts of Sydney, with their bigger bodies, their accountability and their four-quarter composure. Still, with co-skipper Dylan Grimes set to return, Melbourne will take its strongest side for the year into this game and it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the competition yardstick.

Jackson Trengrove and Dylan Grimes are the best captains in the AFL.

GAMEDAY: Rd 11 vs St. Kilda

It's Game Day and after 2 losses on the trot the Dees must win against the Saints today at the MCG to keep in touch with the Top 4. A loss today will see them drop out of the Top 8 for the first time since 2020.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs West Coast

Many warned that this was a danger game and the Demons were totally outclassed all game by a young Eagles team at Optus Stadium in Perth as they were defeated by 35 points.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.
