Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melbourne sponsors backlash over Demons

more dirty laundry unearthed.

We really werent particulalry good at a lot of things. Thats what Im unfortunately starting to realise and yes Im fully cogniscant that many of these items were brought to the attention of us Demonlanders.

As mentioned in the article, its a good thing that we're overhauling this club.

I'd be cautious before believing everything in the article. Having been at the recent MBC breakfast and hearing how the sponsorship team (assembled under cam schwab) tries to create synergistic relationships between sponsors, I'd be wary about believing that Schwab acted in a blantantly stupid way to annoy one of our only sponsors. The whole thing sounds paranoid and far-fetched to me.

And I do tend to agree to a degree. The thing then is that despite any efforts by CS to do some you beaut holistic approach to this area of the business. It wasnt done in a successful way.. i.e it seems it got somewhat buggered up.

Im not so much about the intent...as the result. As with many results to do with the business oat the MFC it seems not much went according to the plan.

Yes the La Rue stoush is old. But the building of bridges seems new. One is always wise to treat media reports with a decent degree of "im not too sure about that" but the underlying currents are there , like it or not .

Wasn't that sponsorship team assembled after we lost those sponsors and as a direct result of the losses?

If true, this article really makes me angry.

Do the marketing and business people on the Board, like Howcroft, take an interest in major sponsorships? I am not talking about interfering with staff, but rather knowing what is going on and offering assistance where possible. If not why not?

If not, maybe they should sign their resignation forms.

I don't know about how the sponsorship team was assembled. But it sounds pretty amazing and I've seen other posters remark that De La Rue can be hard to deal with - but hell, I just don't know!

I'll add that to a very long list that, disturbingly, is getting longer and longer...

I'm stuffed if i know what the board does. Maybe Howcroft does get involved in the marketing stuff. Maybe the Board-led review of itself will release its findings?

De La Rue was not happy with how he was treated. That is something I can confirm personally. But as CB said - this is old news. Frustrating and worrisome but old.

With that said - I hope that we can maintain what we have. Some stability would be good...

I must say that I was unaware that the Misson Foods CEO was a passionate Dees supporter, who wanted us to get the sponsorship and yet we lost it. That is very painful to read.

I was previously sucked-in by Schwab's public facade ......... how wrong I was! He has set us back a lot of years and a lot of dollars. Shameful stuff, and I was so naive.

you werent/arent alone.

Cam certainly seemed to have the soul of the club at his heart but I fear it was more a case of worrying about the wallpaper and not so inclined to see about the cracks in the wall.

Wow.

And people still want to let Schwab off the hook?

How the hell he was allowed to receive a payout I will never know. The guy is a loser and he should never be welcome back at the MFC

No, most people will not hang anyone without all the facts in front of them.

those that do are just a lynch-mob.. knowledge is the key to start to form the picture... political correctness stops knowledge in its tracks, its a double edged sword.

Well the article is not quite correct although I know our club falls short in fully caring for its sponsors and donors. The Jaspersky issue came the following round of sponsorship. The win in China saw "Mr Kaspersky " so delighted he offered to stay with us long term. He announced it so in the day. The club try believed that we were on our way to being a powerhouse so asked for way too much which was a big mistake

The Mission Foods was practically over the line but then I heard that a Director of Mission was heavily involved in Bulldogs so it all fell through- nothing could be done. The China trip was the boys end of season trip as well as an exhibition game and sponsors pr. My understanding was the boys had certain days they could relax and drink alcohol but other sponsor and fan days functions and team building days were in strict rules which the all adhered to including no drinking two day. Before the game. We were reminded at the time that the boys were in their break and to be understanding. I never saw any bad behavior. I do believe our club needs more in tune staff to really understand what is needed to work with each sponsor and donor and of course it will be hard should new staff come in. Each one needs slightly different attention and it takes effort and depth of understanding as well as true interest to get it right. It can be

I have a mate who's the CEO of a company which sponsors several AFL clubs: Pies, Dons, MFC, Freo etc.

He says that the gulf between the Pies, Dons and the MFC is incredible. In short, the other clubs are really professional whereas the Dees are absolutely amateur when it comes to stakeholder relations.

The article doesn't surprise me.

Old news and I'm not sure how accurate. I can check and let you know. The Hankook stuff is also ancient history and was well covered when it happened a couple of years ago. I wonder who's stirring the pot by bringing this stuff up now and why are they doing it?

WJ i suspect a few chooks have come home to roost as a result of the warts and all approach of the new caretaker regime.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
