I've heard that he may have already signed a heads of agreement type thing to join the Saints in 2015. Probably nothing but a rumour...who knows.
I haven't read the whole thread so excuse me if I'm bringing up something that has been suggested before, but how do people reckon Frawley would go in the midfield for us? Just seems to be very strong in the core, pretty good low to the ground and able to break a line from time to time. The question marks would be fitness, cleanliness of his hands at pace, disposal which seems to have dropped off and his propensity to take people on a bit too much. But still, I could see him being a help in close at clearances and being able to extract some ball to the outside for us (yes we struggle for outside mids too but the more quality ball you get from the inside, the easier it is for our developing outside players). I just have this sense that if he spent time in the middle he could develop into a real quality player in that area of the ground. Might also rejuvinate his enthusiasm for the club and the game a bit...feel more like he can influence the outcome rather than having it handed to him each week....

It's just rubbish for all of what Pennant St Dee said and also I think there are restrictions on when clubs can approach a contracted player ect.

It's not a rumour, it's complete [censored], just think about it logically.

  • He is contracted to us next season
  • Scott Watters is in no way assured of being St Kilda coach in 2015
  • We do not know who will be Dees Coach next season
  • St Kilda are on a decline & if Frawley was to leave it would be to play finals as money wont be an issue between us & the Saints
  • If it was you wouldn't you see where things were at with your current club in 2014

FFS are we going to have to put up with 12 months of this

Fair enough mate. Just passing on what I've been told. I tend to agree that it is unlikely that this would have happened, but then again I have no reason to doubt the person who told me. We'll see where he ends up playing in 2015.

Just to clarify a few of your points though:-

- I said 2015 not 2014 (I know he is contracted to us for next season).

- Any club would want to add Frawley to their list, so it would be the list manager that would be driving it. Frawley has a connection to the Saints, regardless of who is coaching them.

- How do you know chasing success and money are the only reasons people are wanting to leave Melbourne? I can guarantee you that in other recent examples they did not leave for finals nor for money. They left because they were sick of what was going on at Melbourne. For example, all those trying to justify Rivers departure as being a case of chasing success are way off the mark.

- We'd be asking Frawley, along with others, to bear with us once again while we put in place a great coaching staff. These guys have trusted us before and we've stuffed it up...sooner or later people's patience runs out. So, whoever is coaching Melbourne next year might not matter, the decision may already be made. I hope that's not the case and our better players give us one more chance!

Chip will stay till the end of his contract but the club needs to have it's s*** in order before he is going to sign another one.
I get the feeling that certain personalities around the club are starting to emerge (Col Garland, Chris Dawes) who are basically sick of busting a gut every week only to see their efforts 'rewarded' by a lazy group of players. Chip may be aligning himself with this faction. That's a good sign for this year. I just hope that he can stay strong minded through out all of this and not let the lazier players among the group get him down.

Wasn't having a shot as I know you were just passing on what you heard, just saying despite what you heard think about the scenario and tell your source in all honesty just look at the facts.

  • Just on the highlights I accept Rivers wanted to stay and for Beamer the relationship between him and Neeld meant he had no choice
  • Frawley is in a different scenario he has the luxury of waiting and seeing who the club brings in next year, so whilst I can't gaurantee he will be with us next year (everyone has a price at trade time) IMO he will wait and see sho comes in before making a decision either way if he is happy with the new coach, he will sign an extension as will Sylvia IMO. If they are not then they will walk.
  • We have to get this decison right with the Footy dept - Coach, Manager and the Board, if we do Sylvia, Gawn & Watts will resign and Frawley & Hogan will extend their contracts

Lets hope the club and PJ in particular nail this and we can finally move forward

Didn't really fill me with confidence.

confidence? most have him going here, going there everywhere. I can't help your perception, you have to be responsible for your own health Dr.

some, just want spew vitriol & negativity, when the truth is the players are onboard, even IF some here, don't want them to be.

I've heard that some players want the new regime to continue, for what its worth.. the New footy department is helping to get things done, even IF its not Yet transferring into wins on the 2013 ladder.

You have no idea what the truth is, so excuse me if I disregard anything you might have to say on that subject. You'll also forgive me for being cynical considering our history, but his comments didn't really say anything. I mean, what would you expect him to say, "yeah I'm fed up with the club and losing all the time and hopefully I'll be out of here at the first chance possible"???

To be fair, and there are twelve months between now and his contract expiring, if he were mad keen on leaving he would probably just be non committal.

well they did say something, that he is happy with the new direction the footy department is starting out on, with the new professionalisms in the club. whilst it hasn't hoisted us on the ladder yet, he obviously knows where its going. thats what he's talking about.

and he wouldn't commit yet, before is contract is being discussed, but he's letting a;ll & sundry know, including those in contract talks Now, that he's not going anywhere this year, & will likely stay.

while it may not suit some peoples political arguments, this is what he's relaying... & imo is saying as well, to others in contract talks, I'm not trading out, so don't leave.

# edit: if he wanted Out now, he would say nothing, & wouldn't make any public comment.

He was being interviewed on Triple M and gave the company line. I hope he's telling the truth and he stays with us but I'll remain sceptical at this stage.

I also have no political argument here - if we don't lose players like Frawley because of it I think Neeld should stay til next year. But if it meant losing Frawley and perhaps Sylvia and Watts as well he has to go we can't afford a player exodus. I don't know either way so can only rely on what's said publicly.

Even if Frawley is unhappy now and does want to leave, a year and a half is such a long time away that absolutely anything could happen in the mean time. His contract expiry is such a long way off that it isn't worth even thinking about, let alone worrying about yet.

I hope we match any offer made to him when he is a restricted FA next year.

They will, should be the highest paid player at the club, very rarely injured and the best player on our list.

I think we should make any decisions/changes, one way or the other, following the midseason review, after Rnd 18... the Roos game.

Great ,

We'll let you do all the negotiating for the club from now on .

Should have the Diamond Valley flag sewn up for 2014 .

Our playing list is just a holding station for other clubs to draft from.... It has been since we started our rebuild....

By the time we see any form of success, more than half our list will be gone.... Get use to it....

On the bright side, we know that if the Roos are 5 goals up they'll probably do their best to help us win.

yes there has been much rumor mongering by some, that he wanted to be traded out, & this IMO was to put the record straight, Yet again.... so others, supporters, & players would know publicly,,, he wasn't going anywhere this year, & is indeed happy with the new ways about the club.

some may notice many interviews lately, by players stating how much pressure they feel from all the rumors & conjecture caused by this politics going on... & it would also influence the decisions of free agent players,,, about where they may go.

keeping our better players is key to all this. as is the perception of the health of the club... those political junkies around, are doing more harm to the club, than anyone else.

& geff, shine a light & I'm there, should just Butt out, & stick to his Poos & Wees business.

Very nice to see the All Australian Chip last night. 20 possessions at a lazy 95% efficiency plus 8 marks

Hopefully with the change of leadership at the club, a couple of wins and a return to form will mean we don't hear anymore rumours of him wanting a change of scenery

The Suns is a must play for team!

LOL Who will remember any of their players in 5 or 10 years.

Personally i can recall a single player for the Suns as I type this post.

Stick with the MFC as it will be going places in the next two to three seasons.

Wouldn't have said that a month ago TBF.

Amazing what can happen in a very short time period

What a difference an experienced AFL coach can be.

I loving it.

Frawley on SEN - 'A year left on my contract. Happy at Melbourne. Good to see the young guys developing but in terms of re-signing, we'll see how we go'.

Bit concerning to me. Not strong emotive language.

Posted (edited)

Frawley was just on SEN and said the following:

Said the feeling after the game was weird and felt bit like a draw but will take a win.

Said Neeld was all defensive and that Neil Craig has been a breath of fresh change and brought a more attacking side into the team which the team enjoys.

Said he was happy at Melbourne at the moment and will wait until next year when contract is up.

Again said he didn't have a clue about how his name got brought up everytime in regards to players wanting to leave.

Has been a bit frustrating with how the club went back last year

Gone through 6 coaches.

Said PJ has had a chat to the boys and he has been really honest. players stay out of politics side.

Again said Craigy bringing some attacking flare and wants the boys to go out and take the game on. Rates him highly.

Generally got the feeling that Frawley will defiantly shop around next year if things don't change on field. I didn't really come away with high hopes to be honest

Said that Clisby Toumpas and Terlich will be gun players for the Melbourne footy club. Said Toumpas was bit slow in the tempo of the game at the start of the year but is now picking up the pace.

They pumped Mitch Clisby too.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
