Neeldy needs to work on the boys skills. 9 inside 50's to 1. They need to convert. Running and fitness levels are good but they don't help you kick.

its easy to see why we used pick 2 on Trengove and then made him captain

what a star

I was up shouting at the Telly, haven't done that in a while, CFC look ordinary if you put them under pressure. Need to transplant Watts' leg on Tommy's body, he'd be a superstar. But we won that quarter. Good one guys !!!

To be honest, just having the footy doesn't mean you are playing awesomely. Carlton are tending to kick backwards so let's not condemn yet. I remember when we played Collingwood in 2010 on Queens Birthday, the Pies had miles more possies than us but that wasn't an accurate reflection of the game.

We WON the qtr!!!

The coach will be sure to point that out at the presser when the demolition is complete.

Carlton are really ordinary. We have very little players with poise and skill and ultimately that's the difference. That 2nd quarter effort was much proved though.

Am liking Jones, Gawn and Tappy. Chip needs to give more. Will be interesting to see how Dunney goes if he keeps tagging Judd. So far he's been pretty effective.

Is it too simplistic to keep them back for simple kick to kick drills.... our kicking is a joke.

Oh for our 2 key forwards...

Brisbane kicked poorly last week and it was our fault, so we come out and kick poorly this week and it's still our fault. WTF?

It's not just kicking skills that matter, it's composure under pressure. We have none.

It's getting to the point now where we need a good old fashioned goalkeeper just to stop those stupid over-the-back Carlton goals.

It's the type of inside 50s though not just the amount.

TAB has odds at $1.01 that Neeld will tell the press after we lose that we had a lot of scoring shots and Carlton double our number of average games.

Cant be critical of the EFFORT so far. Must do this for 2 more quarters. Be a good test to see how committed this group is.

Things could be a little different on the scoreboard today if we had a KF in and had of taken our chances in front (usual story).

Doing better in the ruck contests with out the big Russian. Sorry mate but you're 3rd stringer IMO from here. Gawn and Spencer offer a better contest and both more mobile and get to the contest more often. Not expecting Spence to be able to keep up in 2nd half though given it's his first AFL game for a long time.

Viney has given us something. Frawley and Garland doing well down back. Jones boy has been everywhere and Sylvia/Dunn/Tapscott have added a bit of grunt around the ball/i50

All we need to do is knock Garllett and Yarran out and we're in with a slim chance

For anyone watching this on TV- any news on Grimsey?

None yet

If we had Clarke, Watts , and Dawes we would win this match on our 2nd quarter efforts. Howe needs to get involved

I reckon Chip is going well, hasn't had anything kicked on him and stating to get some run back....anyway..

I saw Carlton bodies getting knocked over, tackles, and hard work, and a bunch of kids in red 'n blue making skill mistakes. I'm bloody happy about the hard work, the skills will come, if they play the rest of the game like the 2nd qtr, I don't care about the score as much.

You wanted to see players improve, I'm seeing that, we have some brave players.

AC to his shoulder I think. Serious injury.

It's at least heartening to see comments relating to us giving a crack and having a go. I can stomach losses when we go down fighting.

Looking at the stats (dangerous, as I haven't seen a second of play), it's good to see we're at least matching them in certain areas (clearances, contested possesions, inside 50s) which at the start of year we had no competitiveness in. Clearly we've got significant problems in terms of defensive pressure, zoning, stopping their spread.

It's all rather redundant if we get blown apart in the second half, but I guess there are some things to hang our hat on right now.

Is it fair to say that if we had a fit Clark we'd be doing a lot better? With that many wasted inside 50s, you'd have to wonder.

Good to see us going into ball ups with a 50:50 chance for once. Jake is giving us more than Jamar did.

Carlton dont look fabulous bar one aspect..they are jumping on their opportunities and slotting goals.

Thats about as convoluted as footy is really.., get ball kick goal.

Carlton ARE doing the one thing we dont... they beleive they will WILL the ball forward..and play accordingly.. Better teams do this. Winning teams do this.

We showed a glimpse or two of this but only via a handful of our players.. Everyone else is trying to defend when then need to attack

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
