If you could have one past player?

Ok so I just watched our 2003 game v the Hawks on foxtel where we won by 1 goal.

Actually found it sad, so many players Yze Neitz, Jeff White Robertson Leoncelli, could go on for ever.

But what I want to know is, if you could have just one player fit and firing from the 90s or 2000s that could play with the side we have now, who would it be?

Remembering we have the exact side now, you just add a player in his prime who would it be?

I will kick start it and I will go with Shane Woewodin in the midfield, In my opinion that A grader we are missing,

Go ahead

S-T-I-N-G-A...dashing tough skillful winger who can kick a long goal would be a huge boost to our midfield.

A fit and firing OX is hard to go past no matter the need because he was just that good.

We really miss a good back pocket who can shut down a dangerous small forward and has some skills when he has the ball in his hands...so would love to have Whelan back there...but also Yze when he was rebounding from the back flank would fill a need.

O K, Diesel Williams.

So as a much needed type to slot in now, it would be in the midfield, & a ball extractor. so Williams IMO was the best in & under ball extractor.

Many come to mind, & I'm an unabashed David Schwartz supporter.

+1 The Ox was on his way to being one of the greats before his knee injuries.

The Ox was still a great after his comeback. just couldn't dance like a ballet star.

Side by side with Clarke, the Ox would be fantastic.

Impossible for me to go past David Schwarz (circa 1994). We would have been talking about an AFL 'Hall of Famer' if he hadn't done his knee.

Edit: Changed 'Legend' to 'Hall of Famer'. Was gettin' a bit carried away in the moment.

From 1990 onwards - Ox or Tingay (maybe Farmer?)

From the 80's - Flower or Grinter

From the 70's Alves or Hardeman

Boy have we wasted some talent over the years.

I will be the first to say Garry Lyon. Why? Not only could he be played in the forward line, down back or on the ball, he would give us the leadership we so sorely lack.

Really says alot about our midfield over the past 15 years that we have to go all the way back to Viney, Lovett and Tingay for some quality and even those three had their obvious deficiencies. Our current team needs elite midfielders and I'm like everyone else here - I'd pick a 1994 Ox. Says a bit doesn't it. Toumpas and Viney - the pressure is on!

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
