Look out for Wellingham and Dawes to be packaged up and traded to Melb for pick 4

Effectively we have here Tom Scully for Wellingham, Dawes and pick 13.

When I look at it that way it's not too bad...

...........

If he comes here he'll have a new contractI should imagine

Reported that Dawes is on big coin. We would be one of the few (with saints I guess) to have the cap space to take over the contract at least for the first year, with balance of 4? years negotiated

Just learned Dawes is only 24. Thought he was about 28! Might be a good pick up after all. How about Cook, Gysberts and Morton to Maggies as a trade. Would rather keep Martin if possible even though 2012 wasn't a good year for him.

Good grief.....what is it Rhino would say.........LOL

Slightly better, but pick 4 is a massive asset to put up.

Not the way the MFC use them

LOL....Morton was a pick 4........

I'm staggered how many people overrate Martin on these boards

Yeah the guy might have some athletic talent, but what has he done except for a 4 week patch in 2011.

Furthermore, the guy is constantly injured and doesn't seem to have the ability to play through sore spots and niggles.

I would take Dawes for Martin in a heart beat

good call.

A top 5 pick should be a star of the game.

Would anyone here give up Pavlich or Franklin, or Cotchin for Wellingham and Dawes?

If they want a package, they can take Pick 13 and Martin with their later picks coming our way.

I like the idea of both but I won't overpay for B graders.

We could use the compensation picks we get for Moloney and Rivers, if he goes. Wellingham's manager said he's not interested speaking to Melbourne he will only go to a club with a "Winning culture." That's why he's in the West talking to the teams there. Thank you very much.

Neither of those players are pick 4 players. There's no way you'd give up the talent you would get with a pick 4 to get two players who aren't that talented. You'd do it for a pick that matched their talent.

I'd be keen to get Dawes.

He's no superstar, but he does have some attributes that are very attractive to the club:

- Really hard worker

- Leader

- Mature, but young (great age)

- Fills an important role that we can't currently fill (power forward to complement Clark)

- Great competitor

If we are looking to get free agents in (like Byrnes) to set an example and create a high performance culture, then Dawes will be perfect for that- plus he has the ablity to play a long term role in the side. As long as we don't expect him to be Mitch Clark, then he'd be a very good acquisition.

Pick 4 for a 5th best midfielder and a NQR forward who made Moloney look in red hot form?

Noooo

Agree 100% too big a price to pay, they have no cap room and they are looking to trade so we should drive the deal not them. They have effectively made Dawes redundant and they can't afford to keep Wellingham, it's important that we don't roll over on this we have pick 13 and some later picks but pick 4 should be off the table.

You're being a bit selective there, only Franklin was pick 5, and in any case, all are about the best picks of their respective years. You could have easily picked out Cale Morton, Mitch Thorp or Richard Tambling, all of whom went around pick 5 as well.

If the club is smart, and they seem to be saying the right things. The club wont mortgage itself buy paying overs for other trades or FA's. I hope the club is taking pick 3 and 4 off the table regardless of the Viney situation. Pick 13 is up for grabs and Dawes and Wellingham would be a good get. Collingwood need to trade to release salary cap pressure. No need to give them a trump card to another star by giving away our top picks.

The way i see it, is that Collingwood require a forward/ruckman and Key Position Back to replace Tarrant. Maybe Martin could be the bait to entice the Pies to play Martin down back.

Neeld spoke about being the hardest club to play against. I hope this extends to whole FD and not just the players.

So you're disregarding what he wants ?

He wants to stay in Melbourne and there will be enough suitors to make it happen.

No I am not disregarding that at all, you are reading between the lines or looking for an argument.

What I am suggesting is that perhaps the lure of, the likelihood of a flag plus some more money MIGHT be too tempting to knock back and I think that is fairly clear.

Just postulating like every one else in this thread.

Just because someone says something does not mean it is set in concrete; remember one Mitch Clark.

I don't mind this.

Shows the MFC members that the club is sick and tired of losing season after losing season, and we need to start playing for the now.

Collingwood might ask for Gysberts too.

thats a horrible option. 1 potential un in a hot draft for 2 ok players that have looked better in a good side than they really are. id spew up if the dees do that.

Pick 3 and 4 - viney , toumpas/orourke. midfield set up.

Dont do it Dees

I would be a little anxious giving up pick 4 in whats touted as a very good draft.

Agreed if Pies have salary cap pressures we have the upper hand and would not give up Pick 3 o4 4 for them, think of Freo giving up Pick 1 in 2001 draft for Mcpharlin and Croad, Mcpharlin is still a star and Croad only ever player 1 good game for Freo against us at Subi in 2002 when he kicked 7.

The icing on the cake for that trade was missing out on Judd

Personally, I would like to see Dawes come to us. Had a bad season but still a big powerhouse forward which are very rare beasts. Appears a person of genuine character. Will have to eat crow to come to us but appears the type to rise to the challenge and prove detractors wrong.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
