Changes For Next Week

I'll explain he is a token chaser, he gives in way to early and to easy. 12 touches watch the game again he was back to his old run behind easy receive. For those at the game you will notice Davey is always playing off his man and chasing, if he manned up and ran off his man and ran hard to create I would have no issues. I will high light the first quarter he allowed a hawthorn player to run past him and then chased and tried to apply a tackle, to me that summed up where Aaron is at he would rather loss position and try to lay a tackle than win the hard footy. Aaron of old would have taken the footy and backed himself to out pace, now he is just making easy tackles.

So many at Melbourne like to play 'Small',,,, it's like a disease thats spread thru the side since early 2000's. Play small, play timid, play wide & receive the easy ball without bruises.

just don't make em angry...

don't wake the angry Giant.

INS- Green, Jurrah, Watts, Martin, Blease

Spot on with the ins...

INS:

1. Green- clearly the club wants him back in the team. we need our senior guys to stand up ffs

2. Jurrah- Neeld confirmed that our most exciting player is back for the swans. Jurrah, Clark and Howe= YES!

3. Watts- with the double bye for the vfl, he can't learn any lessons not playing at all. Can continue learning his craft at AFL level. is too talented to be languishing too long at vfl

4. Martin- i watched the second half of the vfl, he's finally healthy. Is a HUGE step up from Sellar and Fitzpatrick, we need him back to 2011 form

5. Blease- We need some outside run and carry

I'd also very seriously consider bringing in Taggert and start him as the sub. The kid looked great at VFL last week. Although in truth, he's only really played a couple of vfl games due to injury, could probably use a bit more development time.

Out:

- Definitely Sylvia, Bail and Bate. 3 guys who just aren't performing atm and need to perform at VFL level

- Fitzpatrick just not ready. I'd also think about dropping Tom McDonald, he's got a taste, but isn't in our best 22 quite yet imo

- Petterd and Bennel get another crack at it, because it's unfair to drop them after only 1 game back

100% agree. I hope these are the changes.

Agree with pretty much all of your points.

The Taggert one is interesting, I would consider the same thing about using him as the sub and suggested it in an earlier post. The only downside is that he didn't do a full pre season and missed the first month of footy. We may be asking a bit to much of him to come in underdone in his first game, this is where Misson and the coaching staff come in, they should know if he is ready. If he doesn't get a run I hope they are able to drop him back to the development team who are playing this weekend so at least he can get another game under his belt.

I'm sure we will see him at some stage if not this weekend, we need kids who can get and kick a footy.

I was impressed with Taggert kicks the footy low and hard, has confidence to hit a target. No need to rush him give him a game with Casey reserves this week a week rest another couple of games in Casey firsts if form hold up bring him in against GWS.

Our next four games are Sydney, Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood we should leave Moloney, Sylvia and co in for these games see if they can show something against good midfields if not drop them for our matchs against GWS, Port, Gold Coast, I don't what to see everyone jump back on these guys when they smash up on the young midfields.

Like all of these comments unsure about Bate I think he still has plenty to offer the structure but could do a little more on second efforts sheperding making space and running into space

Although i saw him doing a little of that onlt to get ignored when offering

Also would be disappointed if Watts is used in defence as other threads have indicated we do need to reassert our attack and Watts is one player with skill and ability to deliver.

Bruce and Green were devalued as attackers (Strikers who scored or created scores) after they spent prolonged time in defence

It may have been a necessity for the team back then but IMO we have a great squad of defenders We need them to continue to work with each other and deliver more precisely

Jamar can win all the tapouts he likes, but if none go to advantage it doesnt count.

It's like being invisible only when no-one's watching. It's great and all, but it doesn't get you anywhere.

re Sellar/Martin/Fitzy - Sellar, Martin have done absolutely nothing to get re-selected, In which case give Fitz a bit longer

re Tom McD - leave him, he is coming along just fine, Why would you punish one of the few showing good improvement and upgrade others who have shown nothing

Don't forget that if you get dropped this week .....you won't play a game for 2 weeks.....Thanks to a f...d up draw in the VFL....How unprofessional in this day and age.....It affects every Vic AFL team......

This affects the sylvia decision did the discussion go along the lines of :

"col on performance you would have been dropped but no game next week so you are in the last chance saloon. prove me wrong"

I hope not Robbie. What sort of message is that - as there are no Casey games for the next 2 weeks, your poor form is rewarded by staying in the team?

I'd rather see a first gamer, Taggert, come in and play 3 quarters then get subbed off, because you know the kid is going to put in 100%.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
