The pressure and intensity that Morton is under in that video is eons less than AFL level.

He has yet to adjust properly to the tempo of AFL level. To me, he seems to take an eternity to dispose of the ball.

The skills and ability are there but he needs to step up his intensity and quickness of decision making!

It's a rare ability that some players have to not seemed rushed. I wouldn't go out of your way to try and conjure up flaws from that video, but simply accept he was amongst the cream of the crop at that level. And there's certainly no reason he can't adjust to AFL tempo. In fact, he's previously shown he can.

It's above the shoulders with Cale.

So we have 46 players on our list; we are are just 7 weeks away from our first NAB cup match, and we only have 25 footballers who can currently take part in a 3k time trial?

Taking away the long term injury to Max Gawn, that leaves 20 guys who are still having a limited or interrupted pre-season.

We have 23 of 25 who improved their times. But I'm hoping there were others who completed yesterday who didn't complete the first two test and hence "no comparison".

At training on Monday there were many more players in the main group (at least initially) than before Christmas. But like you, I'd rather see more out there.

I'd also like to back up Ben Her's comments on Morton. The kids got tons of talent but isn't using it at the moment. I'd punt on him doing very well, I think he's just taken a while to work AFL footy out.

Don't forget he played 40 games in his first 2 years and was injured at the beginning of last year. You blokes are like richmond supporters, bagging your own.

The last 2 seasons Morton has come in carrying injury, I wouldn't be so quick to write him off yet. He has shown glimpses in the past and along with a few of the guys this could be a make or break year for him. Injury free and with a new coach let's hope he steps up.

This is what I mean....

You have shown me a clip of a guy who is constantly fed the ball from congestion and he kicks to team mates. I'm sorry, but anyone playing state footy at that level should be able to do that.

Bit harsh. That would be ignoring the pin point passing (3), contested marks (2) and goals (2). The Larke medal was voted on by experts watching the games not a 2 minute highlights package. I am not completely sold on Morton and I think there is fair cause to say his confidence needs to be rebuilt. 2012 with a new coach, game style and expectations on him offers just as much chance that he will have a breakout year and fulfill the potential that was seen back then or just as much chance of him being at Casey all year and disappearing into the wilderness.

How every second thread ends up about Morton on here is beyond me but regardless the Morton bashing on here needs to stop and we should just wait and see what the season holds.

At number 4 in a draft, you would think a player would posses a few more attributes.

'Finding space'... Anyone can find space if you tell them to and if they are playing a particular role.

You can't prove that he can play from watching that video.

Taggart and Tynan's highlights reel are just as good, yet they went 40 + picks later than Morton.

And where is the goose that said Morton had the potential to be the best player in the league?

There is no room for guys like him on our list if he continues to play the way he does.

You need all types to make up a team and I reckon there's a bloke at Carlton who played nearly 400 games who played outside for most of his career, played in premierships and was considered a star at his club who had many similar attributes.

Is Tom Mcdonald still training with the forwards? anyone know?

Second in the time trial... I still hope to see him and Frawley being our unstoppable backs in two-three years time.

Personally, I think that if Tom McDonald, Jack Watts & Jeremy Howe can switch it on they would make one of the toughest half forward lines to match up. Not many KPD are going to have the speed to match Watts, the tank to stay with Tommy McD or the stones to stand under the highball when Howe has a run up.

Let Sellar and a beefed up Garland help out chip down back.

Clark? Jurrah? + the rookies and Fitz/Cook, we have a lot of forwardline players developing already... and what if something happens to chip? We'll have no-one to play on the big forwards (Garland does an alright job, Rivers... no, and no more Warnock).

Davis and Jai Sheahan are the development options for the backline behind Frawley, Rivers, Garland and Sellar, one of whom wont get a game each week. I liked McDonald down back but his kicking can be suspect which isn't great for a defender in these modern times, and if a guy can run and mark then CHF isn't a bad place to trial him. Anything in the first 3 years from a KPP is a massive bonus so I have no problem with players moving around a bit as long as they get a fair run developing in one position.

I read all of this every day, and don't need to respond, but Clint, if you have even spent five minutes watching that game against the Swans, you would have seen that Cale Morton ran with that guy all day, spent two hours learning how his opponent plays the game, kicked a beautiful goal, and gave up three votes because he was a kid playing against a dual brownlow medalist, who in the end needed to shove the ball in his opponents face to make the point that he's oh yeah Adam Goodes. Hey I've had too much to drink, but I think Cale Morton did a great job on that upstart that day, so Clint B, shove it

Quite pleased with the results

Not quite sure why so many have such negativity towards Morton as i do think he will become quite valuable

He moves quite well and some of the things i have seen him do ooze class

He just lacks consistent performance like many others on our list

I would expect quite alot of players to improve with Missions Elite training Program

The test will be when we have some opposition

Players having the fitness to make an extra effort will make a big difference in contested possession this season

Especially keeping the ball inside our forward 50

You have to understand that there can't be a thread where Cale Morton doesn't cop heaps of crap, I think it's in the rules and regulations.

...he wasn't on his own in that game or last season as a whole. It was a disappointing season all up and Morton's form reflected the list, very few could hold there heads up after a year like that. I think he has a huge up side (shown in the Sydney game) but it is up to him to show it now and be a consistant performer.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
