The phrase no [censored] Sherlock comes to mind. There's a reason why our players always trailed their opponents and refused to push hard running for team mates to create options etc. It's either they are not fit enough or just plain lazy. Glad it's the fitness because laziness is harder to fix.

Thank god we have a FD in place now who can at least identify the problem and take it from there.

It's almost time to watch "Full Metal Jacket" isn't it....might do it first day of Preseason.

Good to hear the honesty from him.

Stick a rocket up em Misson, its exactly what the players need.

Bailey's game plan was very much about hard running starting with the ball in defence then using a chain of handballs/ passes to create space for the next player to open options through the corridor. Its great to see when they get it right. What lets us down so so so many times was our poor decision making and inability to hit targets. So when we did miss a target we had players running forward that got out on the rebound.

There is probably an element of fitness there as a group and specific individual, definitely some examples of laziness at times, inexperience. FWIW, laziness is an attitude and attitudes can be changed and changed quickly both at the indvidual and group level. I seen it happen in a game. My best example to mind was the wizard in 2000 when he was rotten and ill disciplined in the first half then benched, came on after half time and kicked 9 goals. Fitness must be developed over time. Some key positions, the building of the match fitness can take years. I do accept some players attitudes can take longer to address (Did I say Fev?)

Is there any thread on here where Cale Morton doesn't get canned? I certainly hope you lot that cry out for a fair go for Cook remember that Cale is only 21; so much for tall skinny players being given until 23 to mature. Only when it suits, hey?

Completely agree, RF.

But I wouldn't mind getting the Sarge to have a chat to the boys...

Do not watch if you have sensitive ears...

I agree RobbieF. Over the year the moderators have had to regularly deleted unfair bile about Morton.

Misson Impossible?

no its not but it will take two pre-seasons to get them up to standard. I don't know what Bailey and his crew were doing but I'm bloody glad we got rid of them

Im glad that he doesnt like what he sees. Will only make him push them harder. And bloody hell I cant wait to see the results.

You are aware that Lawrence in Full Metal Jacket is the same person as Inspector Goran of "Law & Order" Criminal Intent Fame...Jacket was his first role.

Hey, Whoa. I said it was a minor pedantic point. Purely about the time aspect of a couple of minutes. I don't give a stuff (up to point) what they do in their spare time

Sorry DC, that is why I separated the points from my reply to you and the rest of the post, my bad. I wasn't actually having a dig at you, just at those who rail on about tweeting like it is the cause of all our woes. It's getting a bit boring for me, that's all.

I have had feedback from two different sources relating to David Misson's first impressions of the players. One current player said that at his first meeting he told the players that "they would need to be at least 50% fitter". A different source knows David via his previous connections in athletics. David told him that he could tell that the players were not fit enough, "just by looking at them"!

Way too easy to walk in and say "you guys are crap....you need to be 50% fitter".

He will be judged in 12 months as to whether they are, and soft tissue injuries are low.

Remember, it was he who managed Ball for 3? years but couldn't manage his OP. The filth worked it out in 12 months.

I agree with your judge in 12 months call but the filth have had plenty of injuries this year, even when recovering in Arizona....

Misson comes with a great record both at the swans ans saints, only time will tell though

Blame Bohdan...

I get the feeling a few Demonlanders think he's the Newman of the Melbourne Football Club (and I'm not talking about Chris Newman).

Here is something about our old fitness dept. I know one of the guys that worked in the fitness department (he was the one who walked with the players when they came off, but he did more than that). Anyway...this year was his fifth year with the dees. His first 2 years he was paid $5000 a year as a F/T employee, had to be there at every trianing session most days during the week etc... he wouldn't tell em what they uped his pay too after the first two years, but it was no where near what he could of been getting elsewhere. This guy was good at what he did, but he was straight out of Uni when he got the job...

Thats how much we valued Fitness.

Schwab actually said earlier this season that we have an issue with the majority of the group tending to OVERtrain.

Possibly spin, but young bodies do need time.

Maybe the previous fitness manager was too easy on them, held them back TOO much?

I think this generally refers to maturing physically. Morton needs to mature mentally in order to do the basic stuff expected of anybody on the ground ; like getting one's head over the ball and taking one for the team occasionally.

Well I hope for Aussies sake he turns up in good condition. It may be a shock to the players because this is a guy that has worked with a team that made 3 grand finals and has been involved in the finals campaign for number of years.

Just get them working hard.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
