Yeh, MFC would be in disaster mode, imagine Smooth trying to sell us some other bloke instead of Todd's boy, who may have joined Gold Coast, if they rated him as number two, will never happen, if it does, well I will walk after 60 years, and would never look back, unlike Lot's wife with no regrets.

The whole intent of the father/son rule is to enable sons to get to the clubs where their fathers played without costing that club 'overs' to get them there.

you were corrected in that the new FS system is actually designed to make it so clubs don't get 'unders' with their FS. IN the old system we would have him in round 3 which is the absurd outcome the rule was changed for. Viney for 3 is fair, if we get him at 26 it is massive 'unders' for us.

We need Viney and Toumpas together.

No we need Viney and Wines together. Wines is a friend of Viney's, a Melbourne supporter and a very talented footballer. Toumpas can go to a SA club where he will be happy!

Would GC not think that, should Viney go in the second round, one of our other early picks will be available for trade. Given they are probably going to need multiple clubs involved in the Caddy deal, perhaps it would benefit them to leave those pick active. They may end up trading for one of those picks.

Eg. McIntosh and Gysberts to Geelong

Caddy to North

Pick 13 and North 1st round pick to GC

Pederson and something from GC to Melbourne

Example only. But if we use 3 on Viney surely we're less likely to trade with picks before the second round.

I guess what I am asking is what do GC get from bidding on Viney, unless they genuinely want him. The winner if we take him at three is the other clubs with selections directly behind us. They effectively move up one place.

Viney for 3 is fair, if we get him at 26 it is massive 'unders' for us.

Daniher to the dons for pick 10 is massive unders; Tom Mitchell to swans last year for pick 21 is massive unders. Viney is a mid/lower-mid round one pick; getting him at pick 26 is no more unders than these 2. The new system was to stop an Ablett going to the cats for a round 3 pick. So be it.

Sorry, it's hard to keep up with these threads much of the time.

If Viney's rated top 5 to 7 in the draft (which he appears to be), and we are forced to use pick 3 on him in circumstances where the club before us doesn't actually rate him the pick 2 but nonetheless nominates him at that pick essentially to stuff us up, I don't think that is paying 'unders' for a father/son selection.

That said, I sincerely hope we do use pick 3 on him if that occurs. However, there is no way we're paying 'unders' in using pick 3 on a father/son selection here.

If GC have a top ten pick lined up in exchange for Caddy, North Melbourne perhaps, then they will surely nominate Viney. If not, then perhaps they are better off letting him go for the possibility of getting the Dees involved in the Caddy deal.

Its been noted in a few places that Caddy won't consider the MFC.

Ed: don't know how true this is. And North only have pick 14 at the moment.

How the **** has this got to 108 pages??? I gave up at 23 pages this morning it was around 43 pages now it's at 108??? I don't even want to imagine how much back and forth there has been over something that is a non-issue. Crazy way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Pretty sure its been merged with other long Viney threads. Such as 'Viney a sun?' thread.

I think The Jack Viney thread and Jack Viney a Sun? thread got merged into a Demonland super merged extravaganza multi funzone super time thread.

Just read all 108 pages, and I think, correct me if I'm wrong here, GC may bid pick 2 on Viney, if they do, we'll have to use pick 3 to draft him. Well worth the 108 page read.

GC are a bunch of pricks if they bid for JV tomorrow, and I hope that he spend his entire career smashing their players each and every time we play them.

Talk about going against the spirit in which the Father-Son rule is intended. It's not as if we are such a great team that another gun player will bring us an immediate premiership.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
