WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

I doubt roos has the level of sentimentality about father son picks to be forced to use a pick before the value of the player, as he said all players are on the table, so i doubt we would be paying overs for Stretch, we will either get him for something we think fair or we will pass on him and take another that Roos and co rate higher.

My take on this is that the Saints will nominate him with their second round pick assuming Port don't offer up their first (which might be a bit of a stretch (pun intended)). I think we'll be paying our second round pick, which isn't really overs. It would be a real stroke of luck to get away with using our third round pick on him.

Does the Father/Son bidding occur on draft night now? And how does that work, does a rival club need to nominate a potential father/son pick at their pick then the club must respond?

Nope. FS bidding is the first thing that happens in the trade period. Whatever picks are nominated in FS bidding are out of play for trade and FA periods.

i think its done just like the draft i.e. round by round. in descending ladder position excluding the nominating club (bottom to top) with a pass or bid

as soon as there is a bid, the nominating club can then claim the player by offering their next highest pick, otherwise he goes to that club who bid

all this happens before the trade period and draft

Again, no, they will also bid if they think we will take him with our second rounder if pushed to.

We are a sucker and the even breaks won't start anytime soon...

Emma has an article in this mornings Age saying that Collingwood are no certainty to take Darcy Moore at pick 8.

I presume that those who think other clubs will nominate Billy so as to force us to take him would now be advocating we nominate Darcy so as to force Collingwood to take him.

I also suspect that prospect would be (rightly) rejected. Same goes for Billy. There isn't a club in the AFL that is worried about us getting Billy for a bit of a bargain and who would put themselves at risk by nominating him early.

Billy will go where he is rated by other clubs and "forcing" our hand won't come into it.

We should get him one round later than he is rated unless StKilda nominate him, then it will be his true value.

Is it a problem that a soon to be AFL player cant kick 40 metres?

Didn't seem to bother Greg Williams. He had over 50 disposals against StKilda one day and they were real disposals not the give and gets today.

53 disps (25 kicks 28 hballs), 5 marks and 6 goals

Not bad for a 176cm player who was too slow for Sydney.

PS: He could handball as far as he could kick.

There is a fair bit of subterfuge that goes into this stuff.

Collingwood don't want to spend Pick 8 and clubs with the picks just before are the ones they want to create some doubt with.

The competition doesn't end with the last siren on GF day - if a club is known to be taking a player no matter what, then other clubs will make you pay - one way or another...

As I understand it PP's and comp picks don't count when it comes to using the 'next pick' for father/son. Therefore if we trade our 2nd round pick then the next pick we have for Billy is our 3rd round pick. Assuming StK don't use their pick 1 for him or course. So it would be a safe bet that he will come with our 3rd round pick.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
